scotty always tried to keep an open mind, he really did. mila showed him interesting things all the time; he was a smart lad, a real joy to be around.

but lord love a duck, was his music terrible.

scotty set down his plate && stared at mila in silence as the music played. the staring && silence stretched on halfway through the song, ‘til he finally spoke up. ❝mila, your taste is just as shit as mine, jes’ a different type. you’ve got no reason t'be high an’ mighty lad–this is as bad as tha’ shite jaylah loves.❞ though he said so, he couldn’t help a sneaking smile.

❝an’ don’t think just 'cause you’re cute an’ gave me a kiss means ye get off insultin’ abba without consequences, mister.❞ he warned, taking a bite of his own sandwich. he wasn’t sure what the consequences would be yet, but he had time to work that out.

“Scotty, you can’t tell me that this is bad. The influence this song had on the culture of the world at that point was unprecedented. Show me an Abba song that can stand up to that,” Mila returned, setting the sandwich on the coffee table. His brow was furrowed and he leaned closer to Scotty, hoping to get brownie points for his hair being messy. 

Scotty usually ran his fingers through his hair with it like this (more like got his fingers caught in the thicket of his bird’s nest waves), but when the older man told him he wasn’t getting off the hook, even for being as adorable as he was, Mila huffed and tried to think of a song they both might like. 

“Fine. But you can’t tell me you don’t rock out sometimes.” Mila stood up from the couch and walked to the replicator on the other side of the quarters. His eyes roamed from the different decorations Scotty had on his walls, and landed on the thing he loved almost as much as he loved Scotty: the beverage replicator.

❝but what’s wrong with it?❞ scotty demanded through his laughter, obliging the other && dialing down the volume on abba’s 1978 hit song ’take a chance on me’. ❝i mean, is it th’ most… EMOTIONALLY FULFILLING musical genre, likely no’, but it is fun–!❞ he defended, arms folding. despite all his defence, still he smiled.

❝‘sides, what do you listen to? what makes it so much better?❞ if scotty didn’t know mila better, he might have called him a prat–as it was, he knew mila meant no harm by the constant ribbing on his musical taste.

“It’s pretty s h i t, Scot, and you know it. Most any pop song from that era sounded exactly the same, but the only redeeming qualities were the lyrics, unless Abba came on,” he spoke, chuckling at a few points. He leaned over and gave Scotty a quick peck on his cheek before speaking to the computer. 

“Computer, play... Ice Cube. It Was a Good Day.” The familiar beat filled the air and Mila leaned back into the sofa, nodding his head. Another bite of his dinner. A chuckle while looking at Scotty. “Now this, this is genius. This is art, Scot.”

so apparently follow forevers are a thing you’re supposed to do when you hit a milestone; so here we are!! i hit 300 within four days of making a blog for this disaster of a man, and i’m beyond elated and honoured to have met you all!! if i’ve forgotten anyone, it’s not a slight, i’m just tired!
