THE HALF-BLOOD'S SHADOW
A Harry Potter-era FanFiction
Hey everyone, this is my first FanFiction I've ever had in mind and saved notes for since 2014!! Now, I finally have the time to write it.
English is not my first language
This fanfiction is handwritten and planned. I am not a fan of AI. I made the cover with PicsArt. The story is about my OC, Livia "Liv" Lestrange, who suffers under the curse of her last name and her mother being in Azkaban, no one else than Bellatrix Lestrange herself. She tries to find her way in the world, which changes daily. I hope you'll like it!

It had been an incredibly boring summer. I swear, if I had learned one thing these last three years it was how to be bored, and this summer, it felt like a being bored World Cup.
I patted my black cat, Nero, for the fifth time that day. It was a wonder that he hadn't had enough of it yet. He catched one of my curls with his paw. My black curls reminded me too much of my mother, who was none other than Bellatrix Lestrange herself. Severus said, I looked too much like her sometimes. But she had been in Azkaban since I was two years old.
Even the letters from my cousin Draco had turned into small talk, but mostly that was because he was too focused on new strategies with his friend Blaise Zabini on how to make Harry Potter's life at Hogwarts even more miserable, since Potter had spoken badly about the Malfoys last year. At least Draco had something to do. And I? I didn't even have friends.
Well, depending on if you can call your teacher a friend. Severus told me all the time that I was gifted, and that was why he kept me away from Potter for the first two years. Oh, how I had argued about that. But all he ever said was:
"You already have, against my objections, Newt Scamander as your teacher, thanks to the fact that you can talk to souls in the past sometimes. I hope the day comes when a man from the 1920s won't sit at my kitchen table and teach you about Nifflers!"
I had argued back that Newt actually taught me how to write and read, when I was younger, while everyone else was too focused on their own lives. My godfather still barely accepted him.
Anyways. This year, the summer would hopefully not end boringly. It was officially Harry Potter's third year, and I was finally allowed, at fourteen, to go to Hogwarts. No one knew. Not a single soul, only Severus and Professor Dumbledore. And well, Newt, but if his opinion as a time traveler could count, was questionable at that point.
"Livia, are you awake?" Severus's voice behind my door snapped me back to reality.
"Depends on if daydreaming counts!" I sighed.
"It does not, child. Now tell me if you want breakfast or if you're still studying how to train a Bowtruckle!" He sounded stressed, which was no wonder at all, due to the fact that he had to prepare new subjects for this school year.
"Sounds acceptable. I am, but Newt told me Queenie needs more things to do, she's bored"
I said, looking at the sleeping Bowtruckle on my shoulder. (Yes, I named her after Queenie Goldstein.)
"Good. Then take her with you to Diagon Alley. You're going with Narcissa today to get your robes and books." Severus said. That surprised me, and the door was open in two seconds. I stared at him. "Seriously?"
He raised an eyebrow. "No, you're going to Durmstrang. Of course you need your Hogwarts books. Now get ready. Your hair is a bird's nest again."
After getting ready, I put my hair, which was always messy, into a bun. I wore a normal grey sweater, jeans, and a necklace Newt had sent me a few days ago which had a small protection charm on it. It probably wasn't extremely strong, but he wrote that it could at least hold off Stupefy and Eat Slugs.
At the breakfast table in our kitchen, Severus had already placed two plates. I got eggs out of the fridge and started making scrambled eggs without a word, which was rare.
He slowly tilted his head. "Having a good day, Liv?" Severus asked, a bit confused. I looked over my shoulder at him.
"Nope, just being polite. I can't stand watching you eat only bread with butter every morning, and as your goddaughter, I do know you're not motivated at all to make a good breakfast. Sit down and accept the food." Oh no, I forgot.
All I got was a glare. "Liv, with all respect. Don't you dare say to me in my own..." A loud SNAP outside the door interrupted him. "We talk later." Severus sighed and opened the door.
Narcissa Malfoy stood there, with Draco holding a green apple next to her, of course, because he hated red. His expression was so uninterested, it really deserved an award.
"We're early, I know, Severus" Aunt Cissy said.
"Liv." She nodded as a greeting.
I held the pan directly out to them. "Scrambled eggs? I can make more."
Draco crossed his arms. "The last time you asked that, Lestrange, you lived with us. Why the sudden hospitality?"
For a long moment, I said nothing, looking around the corridor. Severus looked as if he would hex me into a broomstick with a single look if he could, and honestly, he probably could. So I looked at Aunt Cissy, who had closed her eyes, then back at Draco.
"I... am having a good day" was the only, stupid answer I had. Looking around a second time, Draco grinned. Severus looked like he wanted to put a hand over his face, but instead he closed his eyes, and took a deep breath. Not saying anything at all to that I just used his line from earlier.
Aunt Cissy gave a single, short nod. "Alright then," she said. "Eat, get ready. We leave in ten minutes for Diagon Alley."
