ghostling:
H O R R O R . P R O M P T S
“I just got back from the cemetery.”
“I swear I just saw someone… or something looking in my window.”
“I know I closed the damn closet door, but it keeps opening! Please tell me this is just some kind of joke you keep pulling.”
“What’s behind you in these pictures…?”
“Apparently like 20 years ago, some girl slaughtered her family in the basement.”
“I think there’s something about this house that you’re not telling me.”
“I keep hearing noises coming from the attic…”
“I know what I saw, and whatever is in the basement… it’s not human!”
“I didn’t have time to see what it was! I just got the hell out of there!”
“Whose grave were you bringing flowers to…?”
“The electricity guy said there was absolutely nothing wrong – and yet, the lights always flicker on at 2am. Explain that to me?”
“Why don’t you spend the night in that house ‘alone’, then try to convince me that you don’t believe in ghosts.”
“Y-you don’t understand, he didn’t have a face!”
“I had a dream that I killed you.”
“Ah, yes… the room you’re staying in. It’s a paranormal hot spot, apparently.”
“I keep hearing whispers at night… I-I can’t sleep!”
“There was something else in there with me, I’m not going back to that house.”
“Come on, it’s just an urban legend…”
“Are you trying to tell me I’ve been sleeping in a dead girl’s room!?”
“I keep getting the feeling that someone is following me.”
“Don’t panic… but I think there’s someone else in the house.”
“I can still feel her/his ghost, and it’s killing me…”
“There’s something growling in the basement… could you, uh… check it out for me?”
“Can you just… can you please check the closet?”
“P-please… put the knife down.”
“I bought this haunted ring on eBay!”
“No, no, no – run!”
“I didn’t forward one of those freaky chain letters and now I keep hearing the laughter of children coming from my hallways at night.”
“The dead are all around us…”
“She’s dead! She’s dead and yet I keep seeing her, everywhere!”
“There’s something breathing under the bed…”
“You can’t tell me you don’t believe in ghosts after all we’ve been through.”
“I saw something I wasn’t supposed to see, something… that wasn’t supposed to be here.”
“Maybe an exorcism is in order…?”
“I woke up, and it was j-just… staring at me.”
“He was there, then like a second later he literally vanished! I saw it happen!”
“I like the ghosts here… they keep me company.”
“You can’t honestly tell me you’re in love with a dead girl.”
“Wasn’t someone murdered in this house? Why are we here?”
“If dying means being with him/her, kill me. I’d be happier that way.”
“Ghosts aren’t real. You need help.”
“…what do you mean we didn’t talk last night? You came over, you were here.”
“You saw something you weren’t supposed to see. And now… now you know what has to be done.”
“I’m pretty sure my toaster’s haunted.”
“What’s wrong with you? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
“Don’t! Don’t you dare open that door!”
“I visited his/her grave for the first time today…”
“Something terrible happened here, didn’t it?”
“Wh-why do you have a knife…?”
“You’re all bloody, what happened!?”
“You know that book from The Evil Dead? Yeah, well… I’m pretty sure we found something pretty damn similar to it.”
“You’re bleeding…”
“How can you not see it…? I’m dead! I’ve been dead for years!”
“I’ve always wanted to see you choking on your own blood.”
“I’m sorry, I’m busy Friday with the… funeral and all.”
“I’ll never forget the sound of his screaming.”
“From the looks of it, the afterlife is a lot more fun than this.”
“Legend has it that you can still hear her crying for her lover in the dead of night.”
“I want to be dead, too.”
“Well don’t you look lovely, all covered in blood.”
“Whoa – wait! Please don’t go down there… let’s just get out of here, please?”
“You played with a Ouija board!?”
“Me and some friends played with a Ouija board the other night… and things have been a little strange since then.”
“There’s so much negative energy in this house… do you know if someone died here?”
“You’re always hanging out in cemeteries… and yeah, it’s kinda creepy.”
“They just don’t believe like they used to…”
“I will haunt you until the end of time.”
The blunt statement promoted a slight chuckle from the faerie. They were more fond of children than most other humans—they tended to be more open-minded than adults.
“Ah, no, not completely. But I am not entirely sure if I could be called a monster, either—it is complicated, trying to define myself in that false dichotomy.” They reply, brushing damp hair back behind their ear.
“???” So this lady wasn’t a human, or a monster...?
Huh, well they hadn’t believed in monsters before they met their friends when they fell. So honestly, who was to say that there weren’t other kinds of creatures walking around? That still didn’t keep the child’s curiosity at bay though, so they persisted with their question.
‘What do you call yourself then? If you’re not a monster or human, miss Ember?’
"A halfling, or more commonly a Faerie." They smile conspiratorially at the child. "However I am half human, so I find it easier to pass in modern society."
"I am a kaelpie—a sea creature, capable of changing their shape on a whim."

Ember noticed the child watching them, but didn’t think much of it. Many of the inhabitants of this neighborhood gave them odd glances, whether because they appeared too human or not human enough. They didn’t mind. When the little human signed to them, though, they stopped, looking at the other curiously. They knew enough sign language to pass, and the child’s questions made them smile. “No, I am not cold. And a towel would not do me much good - my hair is always at least damp, whether I have been near the water or not. Curse of my kind, I suppose.” They answer with a shrug. “I am Ember, and what is your name little one?”
“???” Wait, so her hair was always wet? How could that happen, and what did she mean by a curse of her kind-
Oh. Wait...
The look on the child’s face went from stumped to slow realization as they stared at Ember a bit longer, before managing to respond. ‘I’m Petals. You’re...not human are you?’
A bit blunt, but a bit of that was to be expected from a child. ‘It’s okay if you’re not, most monsters I know just don’t look a lot like people! Except the skeleton brothers, but they don’t have skin and stuff.’

What is the cutest headcanon you have for my muse?
what the fuck?????

Petals was a bit puzzled by this stranger at first. They looked like a human, but something felt off about them. Maybe it was the eyes and hair, but the small human had seen people dye their hair all kinds of colors, or wear freaky contacts over their eyes. What was it about this person that made them odd?
Well, the fact that a human was walking through the newly designated monster district of town didn’t make them anymore normal, that was for certain. Most people avoided this place as much as they could.
Either way, they looked very wet, like they’d just gone swimming. But the beach was a few miles away so it couldn’t be from the ocean. Maybe someone had a pool nearby.
‘Aren’t you cold?’ The child signed as the other passed them, looking curious still. ‘Do you need a towel?’

“The Good Neighbors, Courts of Day and Night, The Seelie and Unseelie?” Ember seems surprised by his lack of reaction, glancing around quickly before leaning in close. “Faeries.” They whisper, tightening their jaw as one hand wraps around the iron crowbar hanging from their belt. It burns, but they would rather have that small pain than be left unarmed against the Gentry.
* (Sans leans away slightly when Ember would lean in, giving them a bit of a look.) * (As they whisper, he, too, decides to take on the same volume.)
* faeries…
* what, like fairies? * okay, yeah, i know a few of those. * why are we whispering?
"No, not fairies. Not your happy little beautiful women with bug's wings that fly around singing about friendship and magic. Faeries. The Fair Ones that will buy your soul for a box of pearls but when you open it the next day it is full of mud, the ones that will take your child and leave a stone in its place." They shiver, making a quick gesture over themself. "I am whispering because I do not want them to hear. Those who disrespect the Fair Folk are prime choices to be Taken."

"Ugh, I smell like a human." ~oceans-ember
“Then stay the fuck away. I don’t want your human stink on me, I just bathed.”
"Your assumption is incorrect, I am not human. However necessity binds me to occasional interaction within society, and thus it is inevitable.
"Some days I find my sense of smell irritating, this is one of those days."
They're so chill, it's almost scary. But nope, this is just how Ember is, chill as ever.

oceans-ember:
“A halfling. Kaelpie, however I have only ever known my human mother.” They answer promptly. “Halflings are not much loved in either the Courts of the Fair or the world of humans, it is simpler to claim one or the other.” Often Ember would pick up interesting physical characteristics from those they talked to - being a shapeshifter allowed them to appear however they wanted - but they doubted their ability to take on anything from him. Even if there was something they were particularly fond of. “Ah, my apologies. How may I call you? I prefer the name Pearl.” Giving out one’s Name to anyone was a foolish decision, especially for one Involved in the world of the Others. Ember was careful with their True Name, as any fae or fae-touched human should be, however their pseudonym fit them better than their Name. Pale skin and silvery hair was not often associated with the last dying flames of a fire, after all.
* neat. * call me sans.
* (Sans isn’t retaining half of this information.)
* uh, lucky for you, i’m not associated with the courts of the fair or humans. * i don’t know what the courts of the fair even is.
