Reusing and recycling paper is all well and good, but using paper products in and of itself is not what is harmful to the earth. Wood and paper biodegrade. Even when not left to biodegrade it locks up free carbon that would otherwise be a greenhouse gas contributing to climate change.
The mismanagement of forests and a general practice of land deforestation and subsequent industrial cattle feedlots or palm oil plantations around the world, in place of sustainably managed forests, is the problem. It goes without saying that industrially raised beef and mass produced palm oil are nonessential industries, but they are wildly profitable.
Human need for lumber and paper products could be easily satisfied through modern forestry practices in a small percentage of the earths forests. This can be done while benefiting wildlife and ecosystems within those and leaving the great forests intact, it can even allow for the return of some.
Ethical land and resource management is already in mankind’s reach. Indigenous peoples have been doing it for eternity. All of the needs of man can be taken care of by the earth. If only modern economies and industries weren’t so irresponsible, insatiable, and predatory.

Some marine biology drawings I did. These are scientific illustrations I had worked on for a professor of mine, with the intent to have them published in a marine biology class textbook
Just had to share a design I recently finished up! I’ve actually had this design on the backburner for years, but got the drive to come back to finally finish it. It’s referencing the amazing youtube channel The Brain Scoop and a discussion on conservation efforts being spent towards marketable animals like pandas vs more environmentally necessary animals like unionid bivalves.

Weird timing – just last weekend I found the poster I made when that episode came out haha

Experts say the data indicates that humans must urgently "reduce the heating of our planet by using energy more wisely and increasing the use of clean and renewable energy."
Save the planet, if it’s still possible…
Sea apple feeding, time lapse
It’s like a fucking deep sea sarlacc pit…
Me licking the cheese powder from my grubby mits after devouring a bag of doritos
I think to really appreciate the sea apple, a kind of sea cucumber, you also need to know that it contains a toxic purple goo and when it dies it spews all of its poison out at once so if you have it in an aquarium with any other living things it’s going to take all of them down with it

I’m not afraid to reblog non-fish animals because I am inclusive and they are all moist boys in my heart

55 second video from NASA showing us global temperature trends (by animation) from the late 19th century to 2017.
As you watch, pay attention to the overall color when it begins and when it ends.
A fish we need to appreciate more:
Prickly dogfish (Oxynotus bruniensis). Look at this idiot.
Warming temperatures are having a profound and potentially devastating impact on one of the most important green sea turtle populations in the world.
Scientists were surprised to find that “virtually no male turtles” are being hatched in a key breeding ground in the northern Great Barrier Reef.
Like many reptiles, the sex of a turtle is determined by how warm the egg is as it’s being incubated. And small temperature differences can cause dramatic changes in the male-to-female ratio.
“Within a few degrees Celsius you go from 100 percent males to 100 percent females,” says marine biologist Michael Jensen. “A really narrow range, that transition.” The team’s research was published this week in Current Biology.

🌲🌿 Being A Green Student 🌿🌲
Hello my studious friends! I’ve decided I’d (finally) make the green student guide that I’ve been promising forever. Here you’ll find a handy list of ways you can stay environmentally conscious while hitting the books. Feel free to pick a choose what suggestions work best for you and your lifestyle. Again, these are purely suggestions, but I really recommend adopting as many as you can. All of us, especially those in the traditionally “western” nations with outrageous carbon footprints (aka America and many parts of Europe), need to start thinking about how we impact our planet in our daily lives. It’s the only one we have. At first, these suggestions may seem excessive or strange, but I promise, after a week or two, they’ll feel like second nature. So, I hope you take up these tips, and enjoy my guide to be a greener student!
Disclaimer: I understand that being green can be expensive, with little reward besides a cleaner lifestyle and conscious. I’m a financially impaired student, just like many of you. I’m not one to go around attacking people for not trying to be sustainable, just passing along tips I’ve picked up. That said, most of these tips can be modified, with a dash of creativity, to fit your monetary needs. And, obviously, I’m not saying that if you’re struggling to feed yourself you should go drop all your money on recycled notebooks, because that would be ridiculous.

This is awesome! Students and studyblrs, check this out.
