YOU GOT IT BOSS. so for most of the games there's the plausible deniability of the people who were "into him" in some way being comically out of his age range (oldbag being at least in her 60s, ema being 15, etc.) so his lack of interest could be chalked up to that. this also supported him just being gay for a while, but then we have the evidence from the investigations series and spirit of justice

edgeworth has a clear disdain for weddings and formal romance, and while i don't have screenshots for this, he is also completely oblivious to others' romantic interests in him who are in his age range

now the thing to remember here is that soj came out in 2016, so his repulsion to the idea of marriage isn't just because he's gay and can't get married (at least not in japanifornia, assuming it's more california than japan). it seems like the aa writers have very intentionally made him be romance-repulsed even if he isn't allowed to say it in those words
