- YIVO; founded in Vilne, Lithuania in 1925 and now based in New York, is one of the largest organisations for the preservation and education of Yiddish, as well as hosting the largest archive of Eastern European Jewish materials (23 million items) - including many which were rescued from Nazi book-burning by Jewish resistance. It is the ONLY prewar Jewish library and archive to have survived the Holocaust.

They also train new Yiddish translators and run lectures, education programs, film screenings, music festivals, and the world's first Yiddish museum.

- The Together Plan supports post-Soviet Jewish communities, especially in Belarus due to the current instability there. As well as supporting Jewish communities with aid, education, and community building; they also record and translate Holocaust testimonies, preserve Jewish graveyards, and run education on Jewish Belarus.

- The European Jewish Cemeteries Initiative works to preserve and restore Jewish cemeteries, particularly in countries whose Jewish populations were decimated by the Holocaust, which left cemeteries to be vandalised and fall into decay. This is an important act in honouring the dignity of the dead, as well as witnessing and preserving the presence of lost European Jewish life.

i think that's why when teruhashi said "i wish saiki were here. even if he would just sit with a blank expression the whole time", saiki actually smiled at that and noted it. saiki has to hide a lot of himself from other people so when someone actually understands him it really means a lot.

and then theres the suprise birthday scene. saiki is floored when his friends actually realise that saiki isnt acting like himself- he assumed that they would prefer him as more outgoing and actually thinks he would ruin his own birthday party by showing up.

Saw this on tiktok earlier and this information is so so important!! I didn't know about this, no one around me knew about it, but it's essential and life-saving information. There's a mental health crisis in many Indigenous communities across Turtle Island, and this is just one way those in so-called canada can access the care they need.

Hmm-hmm there are way too many Indigenous youth that don't know first of all that you can get free counselling, and second of all even if they do know, they don't know hoe to go through the process of actually getting it.

But don't you worry cause Aunty Kai is gonna tell you exactly how to do it.

Now there is a lot, but I'm going to make it easy to understand and very quick.

First of all, Canada has what's called Non-Insured Health Benefits or NIHB. So that means that if you are a "status indian" meaning you are a First Nations, Métis or Inuk person and you have that little card that proves that you are [eyeroll🙄], then you qualify for NIHB.

Because of the treaty right to healthcare and mental health being a big part of that healthcare, you're qualifying for 14 sessions or 22 hours per year of free counselling.

Now the tough part is going around and finding a counsellor who has gone through the process of making themself a vendor for Non-Insured Health Benefits, meaning that they will accept that as payment.

Once you find that though, all you gotta do is just go in, start the sessions, sign a few papers and then everytime you come in to do aanother session you just sign another paper. [Reassuring-sounding tongue click]

It's as easy as that.

I've been seeing a counsellor for many many many years and I always go over the 14 free sessions, but all my counsellor does is just request additional sessions, and not once have I ever been denied additional sessions. So consider it just free counselling for as long as you need. And take advantage of it.

And don't forget about the Hope for Wellness line! If you can't wait for your first session and you need help immediately, the Hope for Wellness line is open 24/7. All you've got to do is call in and you'll be patched immediately over to a First Nation's counsellor. Please take advantage of that.

november is coming up so i figured my first post could be halloween hcs <3 i have never headcannoned anything or anyone before so i hope it turns out okay, sigh

saiki

- doesn’t like it because children are constantly knocking at his door and hogging all the candy in his house

- his mom is overenthusiastic and gives everything away to the first child that knocks so saiki has to go fetch more candy (he nicks some for himself)

- kaidou calls him to trick-or-treat with him

- he refuses but then realises he gets free candy and doesn’t have to deal with constant doorbell ringing, so he agrees

- yuuta asks him if he’s going to wear his cyborg cider-man no. 2 costume with stars in his eyes, so he’s like “oh, might as well” (yuuta LOVES it he gets pictures taken)

- the rest of the gang ends up tagging along with him and kaidou

- he’s wary of the people planning to steal their candy when they’re not paying attention

- unconsciously uses just a bit of mind control to get his favorite candy from people

- ends up discreetly cleaning any houses that have been egged

- has an eye out for any children that might be in danger

- at the end of the day he’s satisfied because he has a bucketful of candy for himself

kaidou

- basically his favorite holiday

- wears a jet black wings costume with actual wings + lots of eyeliner

- “this is my true form”

- made his costume himself, took him over two months

- calls saiki to trick-or-treat claiming it’s to “scope out potential dark reunion allies”

- is probably scared of the decorations and tries not to look at them, especially ones with sound

- shows off his costume proudly to every kid on the street and tells them all to look out for the dark reunion - they’re in awe because he looks like a real villain

- is not the slightest bit embarrassed about being the only older children there

- can’t bring himself to egg anyone’s house if refused candy

- (no one refuses anyway because he looks really cute and excited when he asks)

- is absolutely filled with joy at his friends dressing up, especially saiki

- lowkey a bit upset when the day is over

nendo

- dresses up as naruto

- mostly just hangs around in the back

- doesn’t know why people are giving him candy for free but cool i guess??

- almost scares off the kids but then he offers them some of his candy just because and they all love him

- is a bit distressed when he sees people egg houses and tries to stop them (is restrained by his friends)

- people almost hesitantly close their doors when they see him but then he says something offhandedly like “did you carve that pumpkin yourself? it’s great” or “your lawn is really neat, how do you do that?” and they’re appeased

- the tallest person trick-or-treating but doesn’t really mind

- is very fascinated with the decorations

- will look inside a lit up pumpkin and be disappointed that there’s no pumpkin inside

teruhashi

- dresses up as an angel

- she might as well have gone as herself because what’s the difference

- people all look out of their windows at her in awe

- she somehow glows in the middle of the dark street

- is brighter than the jack-o’-lanterns

- if she even looks in the way of a kid egging a house, they immediately stop what they’re doing and look away in shame

- she comforts them and says it’s okay, just not to overdo it

- smiles at everyone whose house they knock at and they basically give away their entire stash

- is annoyed she can’t match costumes with saiki because she has no idea what he’s supposed to be (some sort of soda man, if she remembers right??)

aiura

- no one knows what she’s supposed to be

- has a lot of glitter and sequins on (even on her face) so she’s almost as bright as teruhashi

- kaidou loves how extravagant her costume is

- predicts whose house has good candy and who doesn’t and telepathically informs saiki

- also informs him about people whose houses are getting egged, thought she doesn’t know if he’s actually doing anything about them

- doesn’t really care for the candy so she looks for children with fancy costumes and gives her candy to those she likes best

- is a bit bored by the whole affair honestly, would rather be in some sort of halloween party

- but obviously she’s going to stick with trick-or-treating because 1. do you SEE how happy kaidou is? and 2. saiki Actually Dressed Up??? incredible

- it’s not all that bad because at least she got an excuse to dress up

part 2 will be toritsuka, chiyo, mera, aren, hairo, and maybe saiko <3 i think this ended up being a little too long, eek. idk why my brain wouldn’t stop running

@arakayven its been like a year and a half since i posted this and also a while since you said this BUT:

she has a very carefully maintained persona and thinks the most random and mundane things would make people think shes weird or rude (goes into that nasty ramen shop and eats the nasty ramen, lies and says she never poops, etc)

this relates to my last point but she has trouble saying no to things (the ramen shop example for instance. and theres a bunch more but im blanking on specifics)

has trouble interpreting her own emotions and the emotions of others (i mean you could argue this is due to being self absorbed but its also an autism thing)

going off of that last point, she may have trouble figuring out what people are feeling, but she also has a certain emotional intelligence that other characters dont have. she pays a lot of attention to others, and can notice when things are off. like how she cant understand saikis feelings (or lack thereof) about her, but she can kind of sense things about him that other characters dont notice (this could also just be them understanding each other better than others cause theyre both autistic. and yes saiki is autistic too that is not up for debate)

the dedication she has to keeping up the "perfect pretty girl" thing.........special interest?

these last points are gonna be what i put in the tags of the original post:

she meticulously plans out every reaction and facial expression and sentence she says. this is something really common in autistic people in an attempt to seem neurotypical to others ("masking"). of course teruhashi takes it even further cause she doesnt just want to seem """normal""" but "perfect"

she scripts every interaction and runs possible scenarios over and over again in her head to really nail down how she wants to portray herself, and when things dont go as planned she gets really flustered and isnt sure how to react. this one is really what got me thinking about autistic teruhashi because im autistic and im the same way

If you click the link below and click send email, you can send a letter of support for the SSI Restoration Act to your state reps. It's already written and takes only a few minutes. Seriously it is ridiculously easy. These emails have more pull to reps than resistbot so please fill out if you can!

Hundreds of union employees at three U.S. Nabisco bakeries that make Oreo and Chips Ahoy cookies and Ritz Crackers have gone on strike to protest proposed changes amid contract negotiations with parent company Mondelez International, Inc.

Approximately 200 workers at a factory in Portland, Oregon, have been on strike for two weeks and were joined on Monday by about 400 employees at Nabisco's bakery in Richmond, Virginia. On Thursday, workers at Nabisco's bakery in Chicago also walked off the job to go on strike.

Employees at a sales distribution center in Aurora, Colorado, also joined the strike on Aug. 12. All of the workers on strike are members of the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers, and Grain Millers International Union, which announced the Chicago strike on Thursday.

"This fight is about maintaining what we already have," Mike Burlingham, vice president of BCTGM Local 364 in Portland, told TODAY Food. "During the pandemic, we all were putting in a lot of hours, demand was higher, people were at home, and the snack food industry did phenomenally well.

"Mondelez made record profits and they want to thank us by closing two of the U.S. bakeries (last month) and telling the rest of us we have to take concessions, what kind of thanks is that? We make them a lot of money. It's very disheartening. How is that supposed to make us feel?"

The union is in the midst of negotiating a new four-year contract with Mondelez after the previous one expired in May.
