From the movie Bright Star (2009). Watch the video clip on YouTube:
Fanny Brawne : I still don't know how to work out a poem.
John Keats : A poem needs understanding through the senses. The point of diving in a lake is not immediately to swim to the shore but to be in the lake, to luxuriate in the sensation of water. You do not work the lake out, it is a experience beyond thought. Poetry soothes and emboldens the soul to accept a mystery.
Fanny Brawne : I love mystery.

On a spinning wobbly world
I find myself midsummer*
and furthest away from
my old mountain friends
and the soft veil
of wondrous snow.
How I dream and miss thee most
burns, boils inside a hellish dome,
shifts the center of my Gravity
in a controlled surrender daily
onto my long walk back to you.
Will there be yet another?
Can all this longing alone
or a hand I wonder from beloved
produce the most joyous winter ever
when this journey, year and heat end?
🧿
*Previously, William Shakespeare almost compared thee to such a midsummer's day. He knew not to.
“My bounty is as boundless as the sea,
My love as deep; the more I give to thee,
The more I have, for both are infinite.”
― William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet
🖼️ Romeo and Juliet at the Revitalized Delacorte Theater
I had a good cry and enjoyed Romeo and Juliet slightly more than the NYT theater critic and my partner in crime last night at Shakespeare in the Park.
It seems they were not paying enough attention to the drama in the park and the night around us. Maybe they were too distracted by bilingual switches and apparent subversion of the original lines (431 years old and still alive today).
How does that wind (the flow, the enforcer, the giver of free refills) decide to fill that gentle night with the gift of love or evil?
The set included two giant statues, one of Virgin Mary (love) and other of a skeleton (evil), standing behind the wall (bordering what we define as internal or ourselves from the outside). That wind flowed freely and mightily through the wall. It seemed to carry in whichever statue was lit up into our attention and onto our stage (and our lives).
“Come, gentle night; come, loving, black-browed night;
Give me my Romeo; and, when I shall die,
Take him and cut him out in little stars,
And he will make the face of heaven so fine
That all the world will be in love with night…”

What happens in the mountains? Only they as flakes gathering all in a row know as they sing and echo.
Watch this beautiful short movie The Young Ones: The Silent Echo (16:15 by Suman Sen).
🎵
To whom shall I sing
My heart's song
Memories just come
When I remember
Listen, listen
What is there in these mountains?
Only hardship
A day will come to depart
Breaking everyone's heart
Bidding goodbye to everyone
Breaking everyone's heart
Friends and family drop their tears
Breaking everyone's heart
What is there in this life?
Only hardship
thy eternal summer shall not fade...
When in eternal lines to time thou grow’st:
So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.
By William Shakespeare
Eternal lines? if you read it "correctly" (or differently) you may see William is comparing your eternal lines (or life's journey) on winter's snow to your latent heat of summer.
The Sonnet and (incorrect) turkish translation:
Sonnet 18: Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?
By William Shakespeare
Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer’s lease hath all too short a date;
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimm'd;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance or nature’s changing course untrimm'd;
But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow’st;
Nor shall death brag thou wander’st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou grow’st:
So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

Ve sık sık kararı da yaldız düşer yüzünden;
Her güzel, güzellikten er geç yoksun kalacak
Kader ya da varlığın bozulması yüzünden;
Ama hiç solmayacak sendeki ölümsüz yaz,
Güzelliğin yitmez ki asla olmaz ki hurda;
Gölgesindesin diye ecel caka satamaz
Sen çağları aşarken bu sonsuz çizgilerde [ölmez satırlarda]:
İnsanlar nefes alsın, gözler görsün elverir,
Yaşadıkça şiirim, sana da hayat verir.
Note: switched traslation of "eternal lines" to sonsuz çizgilerde from ölmez satırlarda.
Wind is a gift. Ask the sailors. Ask the lucky recipients of its free refills. Sometimes like any change or flow of any kind the wind may be scary. Sometimes it's invisible. You can witness her mighty work from the top of a mountain during a winter storm to the warm Aegean whipping up a proper fırtına (i.e. fortuna φουρτούνα in Greek; fortune in English); or a flood of words and love flowing in a good conversation.
So, then, what is wind? Earlier coordinates.
GIFT OF FREE REFILLS
Wind is the flow,
the enforcer,
–believe it or not–
efficiently as a razor
fells sharp edges
in our geometry
of old friends.
Fiercely drops
a mighty sword
absent as a mirror
refills emptied hearts
carved with longing
drifting free
in our gale
of wonder.
Feather, my soul,
lift us both higher,
let us arrive peacefully
in our bay
of tranquility.
SAILING HOME
You said,
snow is the veil, the self,
mountains old friends.
Wind then is the enforcer
with a razor’s efficiency
believe it or not
fells sharp edges
in our geometry
between old friends.
Fierce drop of a mighty sword
refills hearts drifting
in a gale of wonder
emptied with longing.
Feather, my soul,
until we lift in peace.
🧿
Eğer bir gün
ışık saklanırsa senden
yoğun ve karanlık
ormanlarında,
sadece yansıt.
Işık ol.
Bırak ay gelsin
–o yansımanın ustası–
senin dostun
ve yol arkadaşın olsun.
O gitmiş
öteki tarafa dönmüş 😔
olsa bile.

The Return by Uberto Pasolini (2024 Film) is a poetic retelling of the ending of our foundational poem from my bro Homer. Replete with all our timeless traumas and challenges. The return home. True love.
And some good parenting advice.
Must see, 9/10.
Quote:
Penelope: There's so much I do not know.
Odysseus: You do not want to know.
Penelope: I need to understand.
Odysseus: You cannot understand. I cannot understand.
Penelope: We will. Your past will be my past. And mine yours.
Odysseus: Better to forget.
Penelope: We will remember. And we will forget together. And then we'll live. We'll grow old… Friends again. Together.
[Watch the clip]
And some good parenting advice:
Penelope: You have lost us our son.
Odysseus: When he finds out who he is, he will return.
Penelope: [angrily] So wise! How can you bear to see him go? So much blood…
Odysseus: Yes.
Penelope: So many years. Why?
Odysseus: Would you still love the man I had become? I couldn't return. Forgive me. Forgive me

BAŞKA HİÇBİR ŞEYİN ÖNEMİ YOK
Apr 7, 2026
Her an birlikte uyanmayı umarak.
Benim sevgili genç baharım bir daha asla gelmeyince.

Hope and love may if we are lucky light up a path forward beyond our deep sorrow.
Kimden izin alıcaz yaşamak için?
Kimin suçu olmalı var olmak?
-Patron izin vermedi
-Tatil günün kalmadı
-Aşkın suratına küstü
-Yağmur seller götürdü
-Kızın paranı bitirdi
-Depoda benzin bitti
-Dost anahtarı kaybetti
-Kestirme çıkmaz çıktı
-Kavga savaş hiç bitemedi
-Bir İnsan gelemedi
-Gelen müşteri almadan gitti
-Akıllım cesaret edemedi
-Gönül kendini bilemedi
Hangi bahane, hangi dert,
Hapis gardiyanı gibi
Açık yola çıkma diye başında bekler?
Kolaysa sen çöz bu dedektif hikayesini.
Sayfalara saatlere sığmayan özgür gizemi
Gözün içinde iki karanlıkta başı ve bitimi.
🧿
To live, from whom must we ask permission?
To exist, whose fault should it be?
-The boss never approved
-No vacation days left
-Your love ran away
-Rain wept in floods
-Daughter spent all your money
-Gas tank ran empty
-Friend lost your secret key
-Shortcut led to a dead end
-Fights and wars never ended
-No Human ever arrived
-Customer that came and left without buying
-My brain didn’t dare
-Heart couldn’t know itself.
Which excuse, which sorrow
stands over you like a prison guard,
telling you not to step onto the open road?
Solve this detective mystery if you can.
This story of freedom we cannot fit
into pages or hours begins and ends
within two darknesses of the eye.

Ran into this precious gem of a quote by Ursula K. Le Guin about human conversation and cultural journey trough life's swing like two pendulums following the geometry of love via Maria Popova:
"All living beings are oscillators. We vibrate. Amoeba or human, we pulse, move rhythmically, change rhythmically; we keep time. You can see it in the amoeba under the microscope, vibrating in frequencies on the atomic, the molecular, the subcellular, and the cellular levels. That constant, delicate, complex throbbing is the process of life itself made visible".
[…]
"Like the two pendulums, though through more complex processes, two people together can mutually phase-lock. Successful human relationship involves entrainment — getting in sync. If it doesn’t, the relationship is either uncomfortable or disastrous".
—Ursula K. Le Guin in her piece titled “Telling Is Listening” from The Wave in the Mind: Talks and Essays on the Writer, the Reader, and the Imagination.
Add it to your reading list!
BTW is that uncomfortable or disastrous outcome she mentions what we call unrequited love? More on this soon.

Neşe Sağanakla Gelince - when a joyful downpour arrives
Ben yetmedim sana.
Gökteki rabbine
bilinmeyen aşkına
gel dedin gelir sanki.
Ol dedin olur sanki.
Ne gelen var, ne giden,
ne de cevap veren
aynı yolda kaybolmadan.
Oyna hadi gezegen bilyesi.
Boynundan derin karda
takılıp kaldın dümenci.
Cin kafalım, parlak gözlüm
nerden çıktın başıma?
İçerisi en güzelken
girip bakmadan
benden sıkılıp
arayıp durdun.
Hafifletsen de beni
kendin derdi biter mi?
Ama lütfen birlikte
daha erken kalkıp
dağların tepesinde
bulutların içinde
cennetin hemen altında
bıraktığımız yerde
bir bakalım yarın
hava durumuna.
Hele benim için bir yaşa
neşe sağanakla gelince.
Sonra ne dersen de
ben ordayım.
🧿
I wasn’t enough for you.
To a beloved in the sky,
to an unknown love,
you said come—as if it would come.
You said be—as if it would be.
There is no one arriving, no one leaving,
nor anyone taking pictures
without getting lost on the same road.
Go on then, play marbles with planets.
You rascal, you got stuck in snow
deeper than your neck.
My genie mind, my bright-eyed one,
where did you become mine?
When the beauty was inside,
without stepping in to look,
you grew tired of me
and kept searching.
Even if you lighten me,
will selfish troubles ever end?
But please, together—
let’s wake earlier tomorrow
on the mountaintops
inside little clouds
just beneath the heavens
where we left
let’s take a look
at the weather.
Live for me once suddenly
when a joyful downpour arrives.
And then, whatever you say—
I am there.
🧿
Love they say is like an ocean. For fish swimming in it it's their home. I can't send you big enough waves or any fishes from afar but just my love and kisses to your shores today.😘

Uykusuz dertli bir gecede
Sormak yerine kendi kendine
Bu hale nasıl geldim ben diye
Neşeyle başla ödemeye
Gözyaşlarınla borçlarını.
Of of, bırak lüks kelimeleri
Tek hece, tek harf düşer
Bizim dar bütçemize.
Ama bir şiir gelirse çıkıp
Aynen senin gibi hediye
Çaktırmadan devam et
Kendime gülümsemeye.
Ne gelen var, ne giden,
Ne de kelimeleri anlayan
Aynı yolda kaybolmadan.
🧿
...
On a sleepless, troubled night,
instead of asking yourself,
How did I fall upon this trail?
Start joyfully repaying
your debts in tears.
Oh, let go of luxurious words—
a single syllable, a single letter
is all our narrow budget can afford.
But if a poem appears,
a gift just like you,
quietly keep going,
smiling at yourselves.
There is no one arriving, no one leaving,
nor anyone to understand the words
without getting lost on the same road.
