Part One (maybe?)
It was almost finals week on campus, and the university library was packed with stressed students. Y/N had taken over a prime study spot in the back โ a quiet corner with large windows โ and despite her best intentions to focus, she was overwhelmed.ย
She sighed, her pen tapping impatiently against her notebook as she stared at the dense biochemistry textbook open before her. Her hair was slightly dishevelled, glasses sliding down her nose, and she bit her lip in concentration. She stretched her legs out under the table, arching her back subtly in an attempt to relieve tension.
She adjusted her glasses and massaged her temples, fatigue evident in her posture. As she leaned back, letting out a quiet groan of relief from the satisfying stretch, she did not notice the tall figure watching from the next table over โ Satoru, his textbook forgotten in front of him as he surreptitiously glanced over the top of his book.
Satoru adjusted his black-rimmed glasses, trying to concentrate on the complex equations in front of him, but his gaze kept drifting to Y/N. He admired how her glasses slide down her nose when she leaned forward, the way her lips pursed in concentration, and the cute way her eyebrows furrowed in frustration.
He suddenly realised he had been staring and quickly looked back at his book, heart racing. He saw Y/N uncross her legs and stretch them out further under the table, her back arching more pronouncedly. He swallowed hard, trying to ignore the growing heat in his lower stomach.ย
She was the prettiest woman he had ever had the privilege of laying his eyes on. He had never been with someone like her, or with no one at all, frankly speaking. He knew she was out of his league, she was confident, beautiful, and incredibly smart, and God โ that smile. She had that quite of smile that melted hearts, or at least his. Still, knowing he probably did not deserve her did not mean he had stopped wanting her. How could he? It was a known fact that something unreachable is always the most desirable.
Finally, she groaned in frustration, slamming her textbook shut.
โUgh, I canโt do this anymore.โ
She did not notice Satoruโs head snapping toward the sound of her voice โ or how intently he watched her rub her eyes in exhaustion. He shifted in his seat, debating whether to do something โ anything.
After a moment of hesitation, Satoru stood up, his tall frame unfolding gracefully from the chair. He took a deep breath to calm his nerves and walked over to Y/Nโs table, stopping beside her. His shadow fell over her as he spoke in a soft, gentle voice.
โHeyโฆโ He cleared his throat, trying to sound casual. โYou okay?โ
His eyes flickered over her tired expression, taking in the way she was slumped forward slightly. He wanted to reach out and touch her shoulder but kept his hands clenched at his sides instead.
Y/N looked up, startled. Her breath caught slightly as she took in his imposing figure โ broad shoulders, sharp jaw, those glasses making him look unfairly intelligent and attractive. She adjusted her own glasses, cheeks warming.
โYes, justโฆ biochem finals are kicking my ass,โ she admitted, voice tired but soft. โIโm Y/N, by the way.โ
โI knowโ I mean, weโre in the same mathematics class, s-soโฆ Iโm Satoru,โ he stuttered, his nervousness through the roof because it was his first time approaching her and he felt like his knees were about to give out. He could not help but watch her, admire her โ how her beauty was accentuated by the soft, warm lightening of the library. He noted the way her shirtโs top two buttons were undone, revealing the hint of her cleavage, and his face flushed so much he felt lightheaded.ย
Of course, he did not adore her for her body, though she was exquisite in a way nothing else would ever surpass, and he could not help but be guiltily attracted to her in a carnal way. If he did not have any experience with anyone, he still knew how his own body worked.
โYouโฆ umโฆ look like you could use a break,โ he blurted out, his ears feeling warmer and blood pumping in his temples. He could not believe he had just said that out loud โ to the gorgeous, intelligent woman he had been silently crushing on for months. He quickly looked down at his feet, avoiding eye contact as he waited for her response.
Y/N chuckled, the sound low and melodic, making Satoruโs heart stutter and then hammer against his ribs. She pushed her glasses up her nose, studying him with amused curiosity.
โYeah, no kidding. I think my brain might actually liquefy if I read another paragraph about metabolic pathways,โ she admitted, leaning back and stretching her arms above her head.
The movement made her skirt pull tight across her chest, and Satoruโs eyes dropped to where the fabric strained, before going wide and flying up to the ceiling. He cleared his throat again, trying to sound normal.
โWanna.. grab some coffee? Thereโs a vending machine just outside.โ
Smooth, Satoru.
Y/N smiled, a genuine, warm expression that made his stomach flip. โThat sounds amazing, actually. Iโm dying for some caffeine.โ She gathered her things, sliding her notebook and textbook into her bag. When she stood up, she was closer to him than he had expected โ close enough that he could smell her subtle perfume, something floral and sweet that made his head spin.
They walked side by side to the coffee machine, and Satoru found himself hyper-aware of every little thing โ how her hip occasionally brushed against his, the sound of her laughter when he made a fool of himself stuttering while trying to speak to her, the way she drummed her fingers impatiently against her arm, waiting while the machine spat out her coffee slowly.
They wandered outside, sitting on a bench under a tree. The late afternoon air was cool, and Satoru pulled off his hoodie, draping it over her shoulders.ย
โItโs cold,โ he muttered, not meeting her eyes. Y/N pulled the hoodie tighter around herself, breathing in his scent โ mint and something woodsy. Her cheeks flushed.
โThanksโฆ for everything.โ
Satoru felt his heart rate spike as she snuggled into his hoodie. He watched as she took a sip of her coffee, her lips leaving a faint mark on the cup. He wanted to lean closer, to touch her โ to do something other than just sit there like a nervous wreck.
โAnytime,โ he finally managed, voice low.
Y/N set her coffee down and turned to face him, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. Her knee brushed against his, and she did not pull away.ย
โYouโre really sweet, you know that?โ She smiled softly at him, and Satoruโs heart felt like it was going to explode.
He felt the heat rising up his neck to his cheeks. Being called โsweetโ by the woman of his dreams was not something he had ever prepared for. He looked down at his hands, fiddling with his thumbs nervously.
โIโm justโฆ doing what anyone would do,โ he mumbled, his voice barely above a whisper.
Y/N rolled her eyes gently and nudged his shoulder with hers. โNo, youโre actually being thoughtful and nice, unlike most of the other guys in our class who just want to talk about their grades and show off how smart they are.โย
She sighed and leaned back, looking up at the dusk-lit sky turning lavender and gold.
Satoruโs heart swelled with affection at her words. He looked up at the sky too, the hues melting together like a quiet promise, soft and fleeting. For a moment, he forgot everything else โ the noise, the weight of studies โ and let himself linger there beside her, suspended between fading light and the warmth of her presence. He felt like the luckiest man in the world, sitting next to her, claiming that spot he had longed for so long.
They sat in comfortable silence for a while, just enjoying each otherโs company. Satoru could not help but sneak glances at her profile โ her delicate nose, the curve of her lips, the way her hair fell over her shoulder. He wanted to reach out and brush it aside so he could see her face better. Instead, he clenched his fist against the bench.
Y/N turned her head slightly, catching his gaze. Her eyes were bright in the warm light, reflecting the last embers of the sun as it slipped below the horizon. Without thinking, Satoru reached out and gently tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear, his fingertips brushing against her soft cheek.
Her breath hitched, and she did not pull away. Instead, she leaned into his touch slightly, her eyes drifting closed for just a moment.ย
โSatoruโฆโ she whispered his name, and hearing it from her lips made his whole body hum with want.
He knew he should have stopped. He should have pulled back and made an excuse to go home. But he could not.
His hand lingered on her cheek, his thumb tracing her jawline with a hesitancy that betrayed his nerves. The air between them felt charged, heavy with unspoken tension. Y/N opened her eyes, looking up at him with an expression that melted his resolve completely. Slowly, almost agonisingly, he started to lean in.
Their lips brushed in a soft, tentative kiss. Satoruโs eyes fluttered closed as he felt her warm, gentle lips against his. It felt like a dream, as though one of his surreal fantasies had finally come true. She tasted sweet, like the coffee she was drinking. Her hand came up to rest against his chest, and he could feel his heart pounding beneath her palm.
When they finally pulled apart, both of them were breathless. Y/Nโs cheeks were flushed pink, her lips slightly swollen, and she bit her lower lip in that way that made Satoruโs blood rush to places it really shouldnโt be rushing right now โ not in public, at least.
Satoruโs own face was burning, his heart threatening to burst out of his chest. He could not believe that had just happened. He had kissed her. He had kissed her and she had not pushed him away. She had even leaned closer. Maybe he had a small chance after all.
He stared at her in stunned silence, his mind completely blank. All the clever things he had imagined saying if he ever got her attention evaporated the moment their lips touched. Now he just felt like a blithering idiot, but a happy, hopeful idiot.
โY/N, Iโโ
She placed a finger against his lips, silencing him. Her smile is soft, shy, and absolutely breathtaking. โDonโt overthink it,โ she whispered, removing her finger only to trace his bottom lip instead. โI liked it.โ
He was positive he was going to combust right then and there. He was at a loss for words either way. What could he even say after that first kiss? โIโve liked you since foreverโ? โCan I do it againโ? โDid I do a good jobโ?
His hand was still cupping her cheek, thumb gently brushing her skin. Y/n leaned into his touch, her eyes never leaving his. She could see the panic and nervousness swirling in his gorgeous pale blue eyes, and it made her want to laugh and hug him all at the same time. She had never seen a man as adorable and flustered after a kiss.
โYou liked it?โ Satoru heard himself ask, his voice coming out hoarse and unsteady. His thumb continued its trail on her cheek, completely on its own volution. He was aware he was blinking like an idiot, but he could not seem to stop.
โMhmm,โ Y/N hummed, her eyes drifting to his lips briefly. She saw him swallow hard, his Adamโs apple bobbing. She found it incredibly attractive, which only made her want to kiss him again. She bit her lip again, watching his reaction carefully.
The reality of the situation suddenly crashed into Satoru with the force of a freight train.
โWaitโ Iโm so sorry, Iโโ He pulled back abruptly, running a hand through his hair nervously. โWe donโtโฆ even know each other that well.โ
Y/N blinked, taken aback by his sudden withdrawal. She watched as he physically pulled back, putting space between them. She realised he was right โ they did not know each other well at all. She had seen him around the campus, admired him from afar โ because he was beautiful, she could not deny that fact, but they had never actually talked.
And yetโฆ she could not ignore the magnetic pull she felt toward him. The way her body ached to close that distance again. The flutter in her stomach that had not faded since he slipped his hoodie over her shoulders.
โI know,โ she admitted quietly, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear again โ a nervous habit, he noticed.
Satoruโs eyes zeroed in on the action, his gaze lingering on her fingers as they smoothed down her hair. He swallowed hard, feeling like an idiot for mentioning the elephant in the room. Of course they did not know each other. That was why he should not have kissed her. Right?ย
โSoโฆ we probably should not have justโฆ done that,โ Satoru muttered, gesturing vaguely between them. Even as he said the words, he was painfully aware of how much he wanted to do it again. He stepped back further, putting even more distance between them.ย
Y/N watched him retreat, feeling an unexpected pang of loss. Logic told her he was right โ it was rash, impulsive, and completely unlike her. But her heart, and the electricity still buzzing beneath her skin, screams otherwise. She was undeniably, irrationally attracted to the awkward, gorgeous man standing in front of her.ย
โProbably.โ
The word hung between them like a lead balloon. Satoru nodded stiffly, shoving his hands into his pockets. He could not look at her anymore. He felt like an idiot for assuming anything could ever happen between them. They did not know each other. She was just being nice. Probably felt sorry for him.
โI shouldโฆ probably get going,โ he mumbled.
The moment the words left his mouth, he regretted them. The urge to stay next to her, wrapped in her scent and her warmth, was overwhelming. But logic โ and his crushing insecurity โ won out. He stepped backward, putting more distance between them.
โThanks for drinking a coffee with me,โ he added quietly, offering her a stiff, awkward nod, refusing to meet her eyes.
Y/N watched him retreat, feeling her stomach twist painfully ay his sudden shift in demeanour. He was closing himself off, the walls slamming down instantly. The sweet, blushing man she had just kissed was disappearing behind a mask of awkward politeness, and she hated it.
โSatoru, wait,โ she called out softly, reaching out to gently grab his wrist before he could turn away completely.
Satoru froze at her touch. His heart clenched painfully in his chest as he felt her gentle grip on his wrist. He did not pull away, but he did not look at her either. He just stood there, feeling like an idiot and wishing he could just disappear in a hole.
Her fingers were soft against his skin, and he could feel the thumb gently stroking his pulse point. His heart was racing beneath her touch. He forced himself to look at her, his eyes filled with apology and regret.
โIโm sorry,โ he whispered again. โI shouldnโt have kissed you. We barely know each other, and I just assumedโโ
Y/Nโs thumb paused its gentle strokes, her eyes searching his face. She saw the regret etched into his featured, the way he was practically shrinking in on himself. Something inside her snapped โ she did not like seeing him so defeated, especially not because of something she clearly enjoyed.
It was her turn to step closer now, closing the distance he had just created. She tilted her head up to look at him, a soft smile playing on her lips again.ย
โI didnโt say I minded,โ she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper. โI just agreed with you โ we shouldnโt have. Doesnโt mean I didnโt want to.โ
Satoru blinked, his brain struggling to process her words. The apology died in his throat. She did not mind? She wanted it? The revelation hits him like a physical blow, knocking the air right out of his lungs.
โYouโฆ wanted to?โ he asked weakly, his voice barely audible. He looked down at her, completely bewildered.
She nodded slowly, her eyes never leaving his. She saw the shock in his expression, the way his eyes widened slightly. She could not help but find it endearing โ he was so sweet, so adorable in this moment. It made her want to kiss him all over again.
โButโฆ we donโt know each other,โ he repeated, but there was no conviction in his voice anymore. He was grasping at straws, trying to make sense of what was happening. Maybe if he kept stating the obvious, the universe would make sense again. He liked her. Sheโฆ might like him back? It felt too good to be true.
โExactly,โ she replied, her voice soft but confident. โWhich means we have no reason to rush things. We can take our time getting to know each other. And in the meantimeโฆโ She paused, her gaze lingering on his lips for a moment before returning to his eyes.
โIn the meantime?โ Satoru prompted, his heart pounding in his chest. He was hanging on her every word, completely enraptured. She was saying they could take things slow. That she was open to getting to know him. That sheโฆ liked the kiss. He felt like he was dreaming.
โIn the meantime,โ she continues, stepping so close that her chest was almost brushing against his. โI wouldnโt say no to another kiss. If youโd like.โ
Satoruโs breath caught in his throat. He stared down at her, searching her face for any sign of mockery, any hint that she was messing with me.
But all he saw was sincerity and warmth in her expression. Her eyes were gentle, her lips curved into a soft, inviting smile. She was serious. She wanted him to kiss her again. Satoru felt like his heart was going to burst out of his chest all over again. This could not be real.
Without another word, Satoru closed the remaining distance between them. His hands came up to cup her face gently as he pressed his lips to hers in a soft, reverent kiss. He poured all his longing, all his affection, all his disbelief into the kiss, hoping she could feel even a fraction of what he was feeling.
Y/Nโs eyes fluttered closed as Satoruโs lips met hers again. She melted into the kiss, her arms wrapping around his neck as she pressed herself closer. He was so gentle, so sweet โ it made her heart ache in the best way possible. She kissed him back just as softly, savouring the feeling of his lips moving against hers.
The kiss was slower this time, less rushed and infinitely more tender. Satoru tilted his head slightly, deepening the connection just enough to make her toes curl, but keeping it respectful, cherishing every second. He could hardly believe this was real โ that the girl he had been crushing on forย monthsย was actually kissing him back, and kissing himย again.
As they pulled apart, it was only by an inch, their foreheads resting together as they both caught their breath. Satoruโs eyes were closed, his cheeks flushed a soft pink. A soft, almost imperceptible smile played on his lips as he tried to process what had just happened.
Y/N opened her eyes slowly, her heart fluttering at the sight of him. He looked so relieved, so happy โ it made her chest feel warm and fuzzy. She pressed a soft kiss to the corner of his mouth, just because she could.
Satoruโs eyes fluttered open at the gentle kiss, meeting Y/Nโs warm gaze. He could see the affection in her eyes, the soft smile on her lips, and it made his heart skip a beat. He realised that he was falling for her โ hard, or at least, harder than he already had.
โSoโฆโ he started, his voice slightly raspy and embarrassingly breathless. He cleared his throat, his thumbs gently stroking her cheekbones. โDoes this meanโฆ are weโฆ likeโฆ really doing this?โ he asked, feeling painfully awkward again but needing to know where they were standing. He hoped โ prayed โ this was the start of something real.
Y/N laughed softly at his shy, stumbling attempt to define what was happening between them. It was adorable. She leaned into his touch, her fingers playing with the hair at the back of his neck.ย
โI told you earlier, we get to know each otherโฆ I was serious about that. Iโd really like for us toโฆ keep seeing each other, in a romantic way,โ she murmured against his lips. โSo if thatโs what you meant by โreally doing thisโ, then yes. We are doing this.โ
Satoruโs face lit up like a child on Christmas morning, his shy smile transforming into something radiant and genuine. He pulled her closer, one hand sliding from her face to the back of her neck as he tilted his head.
โYouโre letting me court you,โ he stated softly, the words tinged with disbelief and pure joy.
Y/Nโs heart fluttered at his use of the word โcourtโ. It was such a formal, old-fashioned term โ but it fit Satoru perfectly. He was such a sweetheart, always respectful, always careful with her feelings. It made what they were doing feel special, intentional.
โYes,โ she whispered, smiling up at him.
Satoruโs thumb gently caressed the back of her neck as he looked down at her with an expression of sincere affection and determination. He leaned in closer, his voice a soft murmur near her ear. โThen let me court you properly.โ He pulled back slightly to look into her eyes.
โMmh? What do you have in mind? Are you going to take me out on a date?โ
โEvery day if you let me,โ he whispered, his thumb brushing softly along her jawline. โI want to know everything about you. Your favourite foods, your hated foods, what movies make you cry, what makes you laugh, what books you love.โ
He leaned down, pressing his forehead against hers once more.
โI want to do this right,โ he murmured, his blue eyes searching hers earnestly. โNo rushing. Proper dates. Dinner. Maybe a walk in the park. Holding hands.โ He smiled softly, a faint blush dusting his cheeks. โI want to romance you properly. Likeโฆ like in the old tales.โ
Y/Nโs heart melted at his sweet words. She realised that Satoru was not talking about dates โ he was talking about courting her soul, getting to know everything about her. It was so different from the casual dating or hookups that were the new trend in their generation. This felt meaningful, intentional.
โSoโฆ will you let me do that?โ He asked softly, his eyes hopeful. โLet me take you out at least every weekend?โ He smiled, his cheeks pinking even more. โI want to spoil you.โ
Y/Nโs breath caught in her throat at his words. Love letters? Flowers just because? A guy who wanted to romance her like they were characters in a fairy tale? This was the kind of thing she had read about in cheesy novels โ she never thought it would actually happen to her.
โYes,โ she answered without hesitation, her voice barely above a whisper.
Satoruโs smile became something breathtaking โ a mixture of pure joy, relief, and tenderness that made her heart squeeze in the best way possible. He leaned forward and pressed his lips to hers again in a sweet, chaste kiss that somehow managed to convey more promise than passion.
โThank you,โ he murmured against her lips, his hands still holding her gently.
Satoru glanced up, noticing the sky darkening into shades of deep purple and navy. He looked back at her, his expression shifting into one of protective concern.
โI should get you home,โ he said softly, reluctantly pulling back from their embrace but keeping her hand securely in his. โItโs getting dark. I want to make sure you get back safely.โ
Y/N nodded understandingly, appreciating his concern. As they walked back to her house, Satoruโs hand remained firmly intertwined with hers. The silence between them was comfortable and filled with unspoken promises. As they reached her front door, Satoru turned to face her.
He gently lifted their joined hands, pressing a soft kiss to her knuckles. His blue eyes were warm and sincere as he looked down at her. โIโll see you tomorrow, okay? For our first official date.โ He smiled, his thumb brushing over her skin. โGoodnight, Y/N.โ
Y/Nโs thoughts drifted as she watched Satoru walk away. She knew she should be studying โ finals week was approaching, and her textbooks were lamenting about it just as much as she was, but the thought of spending another day cooped up with her nose buried in books suddenly felt too stifling. Thankfully, he had given her his number while he had walked her home.ย
She leaned against her doorframe her fingers absently touching her lips where his kisses still lingered. Maybe this was what she needed โ a reason to step away from the stress, a reason to breathe. Besides, seeing him tomorrow gave her something to look forward to. She could afford one evening of romance instead of endless hours of memorisation.
She stepped into her house, closing the door behind her once she had seen him fade into the distance. Instead of immediately diving into her textbooks, she allowed herself a moment of daydream. What will their first official date be like? Will he hold her hand again? Perhaps even kiss her goodnight after walking her home?
The thought made her heart flutter in a way she found herself fond of. She realised that she feltโฆ lighter. The crushing weight of finals week had not disappeared, but it seemed manageable now. She had a distraction โ a beautiful, wonderful distraction named Gojo Satoru.
The only thing she could hope for now, was that their first date would go smoothly.
