Prince! I'm remembering when you corrected me about the murder of crows that killed themselves en masse by flying into Jennifer's classroom and said "it was a warning" for the path she was about to walk down.
And I'm sitting here thinking
1) Did she get warnings before that maybe? Like, it was a pretty extreme warning for an admittedly extreme case. But maybe nature tried sending other smaller omens before resorting to That.
2) Could being in sync with the telluric currents while disrupting nature so drastically have negatively impacted her mental state?
Well, I wouldn't go so far as to say I was correcting you. While I think there's a good reason to conclude that the birds assaulting Jennifer Blake's particular classroom were more than just a cool way of introducing strange goings-on to the audience, I don't have any concrete and incontrovertible proof that the crows were a warning for Jennifer.
It's a head canon, an interpretation unproven and unprovable by canon, which enhances the story that is being told. I am re-stating the obvious because many of the head canons I see fandom create don't actually enhance the story; instead, they are hostile to canon and create deliberate contradictions within it.
Take, for example, the popular Teen Wolf head canons "Scott neglected Stiles for Allison, Isaac, and/or Kira"; "Scott didn't tell Stiles about his plan to poison Gerard and deceive Derek"; or "Stiles helped Derek, Peter and Isaac search for Erica and Boyd over the summer." Not only do these head canons have even less evidence than my proposed head canon, sometimes absolutely zero evidence, they are also directly contradicted by behavior and events we actually see on the screen. What's worse, they refute the overarching themes and relationships central to the show. They don't fit, and they weren't intended to fit by their creators. They're antagonistic.
Here are my arguments for what I consider my reasonable, plot-enhancing head canon:
We learn later that while Jennifer was in the hospital struggling to survive after Kali's treacherous murder attempt, a flock of birds smashed themselves against the building, sacrificing themselves for her.
We also learn later that Jennifer is "in synch with [the telluric currents]" -- at least Chris Argent believes it to be true -- and that these currents are governed by the Nemeton.
We learn still later that the Nemeton was present in the lives of Scott, Stiles, and Allison on the night Scott was bit, and it had begun to respond to and influence Scott's actions, both with the tattoo and the pack he had formed.
The birds attack at a very precise time. Jennifer had just met Scott and his pack (Stiles, Allison, and I would argue Lydia) for the first time, this pack which is connected to the same Nemeton she is connected to.
The Nemeton governs the telluric currents, the second strongest confluence is located at the school and another one occurs at the hospital.
Furthermore, the birds also attack at the same time the Alpha Pack makes it move after months of waiting. Deucalion and his minions release Isaac to lure Derek into a trap. Deucalion and his minions make first contact with their other target, Scott. The Demon Wolf's plans have been set in motion. Jennifer needs to know this.
Jennifer witnesses the birds coming into the window and her face could be interpreted as saying "Why is this happening?" It could also be saying "Why is this happening now?" After the attack, when all the other adults are dealing with the crisis, she stares off into space until interrupted by Stiles. Is she thinking "What was that about?" or is she thinking "What were they trying to tell me?"
As I propose above, Jennifer seems to be able to sense and manipulate events that occur on the telluric currents. She's able to detect Chris Argent -- a Guardian sacrifice -- and two members of Scott's pack when they enter the bank vault. She's able to enter locations via the currents undetected, including the hospital, the school, etc. and seems to be more powerful there.
There is a strong possibility that the Motel Glen Capri is also on a telluric current, given that Jennifer was able to manipulate events there while still being in Beacon Hills and with Derek. It's also what Lydia might have sensed when they arrived at the motel.
Thus, I propose that Scott was wrong when he concluded that it was solely the Alpha Pack which made the birds assault the school. It was the momentous events happening and Jennifer's presence in the classroom. She drew them to her because the crisis had begun. The Alpha Pack had been in Beacon Hills for four months -- ever since the end of Season 2 -- but there had been no eerie animal behavior. I can even propose, with less surety, that the animal behavior -- the terrified stag, the suicidal cats -- were all due to the commencement of the Darach's plot against the Demon Wolf, because the next thing that Jennifer does is -- kill Heather as the first of the Virgin Sacrifices.
This head canon serves to explain scenes that were mysterious to the audience at the beginning and it also explains how Jennifer was able to outmaneuver three different packs of werewolves, including one led by Deucalion, and the police. While unproved and unprovable, it enhances the story by making the Darach a formidable enemy.
