If you're wondering why I'm addressing PTSD, a lot of the comments on this post talk about PTSD or conversely other anxiety disorders in a 'casualties aren't less valid just because it's a mental condition' tone, which while I agree with the sentiment, is not applicable to this specific scenario. Counting acute anxiety (temporary anxiety due to a situational life stressor, not a disorder, not clinically significant) as a casualty is not only inaccurate and misleading, but deliberate disinformation for the purposes of artificially inflating casuality numbers (under false pretenses) in an attempt to justify genocide, massacres and war crimes.

For people who want to be pedantic and say "but it says treated for—", you can seek counseling for non disordered and non clinically significant distress, a lot of people seek grief counselling (not prolonged grief disorder) this does not make grief a medical condition. And this is the most out there example that's associated with high levels of subjective distress. Otherwise many people seek counseling for things like: stress management, life transitions (e.g. marriage, divorce, parenthood, moving house, moving jobs....), work related issues (particularly SFBT aka situation focused brief therapy). Some governments even subsidize treatment, that is to say a single counselling session or multiple counselling sessions, if you get laid off a job. None of these are medical conditions, all of these are very natural and common human experiences that are a) transient, b) experienced at least once in a lifetime. Again: Not medical. Not clinical.

According to Gaza’s health ministry, at least 21 people have been killed since Israel’s army resumed its attacks: ... Nine in Rafah, southern Gaza Strip.

And yet, where is Israel telling the residents of Khan Yunis to evacuate to?

Israeli forces have been dropping leaflets in certain areas of Khan Younis, in the south of the Gaza Strip, warning civilians to evacuate southwards towards Rafah – a city bordering Egypt that was targeted by Israeli air raids earlier this morning.

This is ethnic cleansing and genocide. They are displacing Gazans closer and closer to the Rafah border because they want to push them into Sinai. They don't care how many they kill to do it (21 martyrs confirmed in the past two hours since the genocide resumed!!!).

Don't stop talking about Palestine.

Demand a permanent ceasefire NOW.

Pressure your governments, do not allow them to continue displacing and killing Palestinians.

Hamas denies the Holocaust. Hamas disseminates the Protocols of the Elders of Zion—the conspiracy theory it paints is what they mean by “Zionist”. Hamas forbids foreign aid educators from teaching human rights to Palestinians, and claims that even teaching that the Holocaust happened is a war crime. Hamas has written the aim of annihilating Israel (the country and its people) into its charter—the mass slaughter and violent expulsion of 7 million Jews from the land is written into its laws.

There is no crime any state could ever do that would justify any of that; there is no act of state repression that could ever make it acceptable to side with the organization spreading Nazi pamphlets and Holocaust denial.

Oppose Bibi Netanyahu. Oppose Israel’s far-right, authoritarian government. Oppose its apartheid policies. Oppose its violent abuse of the Palestinian people. That isn’t antisemitic. But Hamas is—verifiably, beyond a shadow of a doubt, to its core—antisemitic. Its portrayal of Israeli Jews as blood-thirsty, child-killing master manipulators that control international media and finance is antisemitic. Its insistence that Palestinian freedom necessitates the death & expulsion of Jews from the land is antisemitic. Its redefinition of “Zionism” as a pejorative to mean genocidal Jewish/Israeli Supremacy is antisemitic.

Remember how we can't be racist to white people because of power structures? Even if Hammas is spreading this bullshit and even if every single Palestinian in Gaza was somehow antisemitic (which is not the point they're literally just trying to reclaim land and "political prisoners"), Palestinians don't have the systematic power to do anything about it.

This isn't about Hammas. It's about a people who have been uprooted, rounded up in an open air prison, no entry or exist allowed, without military (which is how extremist militias like Hammas get into power; I'd also like to put forward the reminder that extremist militias like the Haganah, Irgun and LEHI are what established Israel in the first place) or clean water or access to literally any basic life necessities, where serval airstrikes are carried out weekly. And now the fence is down and Gaza is fighting for its freedom and the freedom of its people with the only means it has.

You can't claim to be for decolonization, or that you stand with Indigenous & oppressed peoples when you won't stand by them because their only means of fighting back isn't ideologically pure. In a place where those ideological impurities can't have material impact given the political power structures in place.

The material reality isn't an ideal situation and cannot be, because Israel made it that way.

Hammas wouldn't exist the way it does if it wasn't for Israel, similarly to how, say, ISIS wouldn't exist if it weren't for the USA.

Also I'm sorry but Zionists (who later played a hand in the establishment of Israel) themselves had recorded, working collaboration with Nazis — You need to look no further than The Ha’avara Agreement and Kazstner’s deal in Hungary for that, or hell the fact that Eichmann had documented relations with many Zionist figures. Israel deliberately enticed antisemitism in the SWANA region (Iraq in particular) in order to get citizens, because when it was first trying to establish itself it didn't have enough to constitute a labour force (look at the works of Avi Shalim, an Israeli-British historian).

But it's fine for Israel to actively work with Nazis and entice antisemitism in other countries as part of its process in establishing a settler colonial state???

But Gazawis (and Palestinians broadly) with no military who only have an extremist militia due to the political winger Israel itself crafted, aren't allowed their only means of resistance to reclaim their land?

There will never be an ideal road towards liberation. The reality on the ground won't allow that. Militias are the only means of armed resistance Palestinians have (because Palestine does not have and are not allowed a military) and armed resistance is needed when the entity you're fighting against is actively committing a genocide against your people.

The LEAST murdered demographic are middle class white women, who oddly make up a majority of the murder victims shown in true crime programs and news reports, and also the ones who make up the majority of true crime fans.

It’s called Missing White Woman Syndrome, and it’s based in racist disregard for non-white lives and patriarchal protectiveness of (white) women and it leads white middle class women to have a vastly overblown idea of their own vulnerability to random serial killers.

It grossly misrepresents murder as an “outlier” and not a societal issue that bares discussing, who it’s victims are, who’s most at risk, who it’s perpetuaters are, the reasons behind it and offers false solutions. To do that, it scapegoats other marginalized communities to further enforce the idea that it’s seperate, isolated, that it isn’t something “normal people” do and isn’t due to the preexisting systems of oppression — instead, murderers are pathologized as “narcissists” “psychopaths” “sociopaths”, they’re “delusional”, they’re “manic”, they’re not normal, they’re not human, they’re less than human. Now, if only we could spot these people and isolate them, incarcerate them, earlier… that would prevent murder.

It’s eugenics 101. It supports the prison industrial complex with psychiatry as its prop. It trains you to view criminals as inhuman and therefore underserving of humane treatment, it tells you that stripping people’s autonomy is okay as a “preventive” measure. For those kinds of people, for “narcissists” and “sociopaths” and… you don’t necessarily have to be either.

Did you know that black boys are overwhelmingly misdiagnosed with ODD (oppositional defiant disorder) due racial stereotyping? That this is an actual issue in psychiatry?

Malicious misdiagnosis is also a thing, when you give someone, or a whole institution, the power to strip someone of their autonomy with the right diagnosis, that system will be abused. How many people have been diagnosed with ASPD (antisocial personality disorder) while undergoing trial, and how many times has that played into judicial bias against these highly stigmatized disorders and been used as justification to lengthen a prison sentence? How many times has that happened to people of marginalized backgrounds to give them sentences disproportionate to their crimes? I’ll let you sit with that for a bit.

There’s a long, historical link, between the criminal justice system, white supremacy, and the psychiatric system — and it is oh-so-wonderfully shown to us in True Crime. In the biases that True Crime promotes.

The demonization and abuse of Personality Disorders (particularly Cluster B personality disorders), Psychotic Disorders and Dissociative Disorders as well as the demonization of their symptoms and related psychiatric terminology (“manic”, “delusional”) is absolutely peak ableism and eugenics, but it is also an ableist system that allows for abuse and misuse of authority in ways that make other marginalized communities more vulnerable and at higher risk for incarceration. It is frequently abused towards that purpose.

This is a big part of what makes our systems of oppression, our struggles, and our liberation so tied together.

It is also a big part of the propaganda true crime spreads.

You can be a true crime fan and go, “I’m not racist!” but a lot of the time your murder victims are overwhelmingly marginalized poc, and the misrepresentation of murder is a racial issue. The copganda in true crime is a racial issue. And often times your “sociopathic criminal” is also a Black man, who’s had a thoroughly demonized mental illness weaponized against him.

Alright, you’re not racist, you’re aware of copganda, but are you cognizant of the more insidious dehumanizing ableism that has deep roots in, and is often one of the most enjoyable aspects of, true crime? Or have you completely missed it? And are you aware of how this ableism, and the current psychiatric system as a whole, is weaponized against racial minorities and used to further support the current prison industrial complex?
