The only bad thing about this situation right now was the silence; they’ve had their beautiful, quite literally ‘touching’ moment, now was definitely the time to introduce himself.

     Nevertheless, he at least tried to get a hold on himself. Act ‘normal’, Mikitaka.

         ❝ I’m glad.. ❞ She’d say with a small slight smile as she looked down to her friend. Her attention would go back to the man before her as she nodded her head a few times. ❝ Ah – yes, he is. The one who saved him..ah, I believe he said he was a Corgi? ❞ She’d say while trying her best to remember the breed of the dog beside her. The girl had simply forgotten for a moment there was many types of dogs. There was so much to learn still and such little time in the days to learn them.

     “Yes, I do. I actually enjoy the company of all animals.” Not that he had much of a chance to be with them throughout his life... He’d only ever had a mouse for a companion; most animals he properly spent time around were the ones he’d dissected during training. It was a shame, really; he felt most at peace around them. Animals don’t judge you or have high expectations for your cooking.

And this time, he was prepared for this.

     But he had noticed him, and he’d even put his hand on him. It was astounding! He craned his neck to properly look up at him, wide-eyed and grinning right back at him.

The Drifter had been so unused to moderate populations of people, let alone trying to walk amidst them. So too were they not paying any attention before–

// Well, now nothing could be done about it. Instinctively they mirror the other’s actions, assuming it would also be courteous to step backward and bow deeply.

     What caught Mikitaka’s eye beyond that, however, was their peculiar skin tone, and he couldn’t help but ask...

“Nah that’s bullshit, total bullshit, they say they’re nice but its just a lie so they can have easy access to your brain. They wanna keep the vegans and truth seekers down”

“Okay, gotta be truthful, I know first hand about their bullshit because I got tested on a lot, these Dairy Scientist guys took me to their lab underneath a dairy farm and tested the crap out of my brain…wasn’t fun…I managed to escape though”

This probably sounded like the biggest crock of shit but it was 100% true. Dairy Scientists were a legitimate thing that existed, their sole purpose was to harness the power of vegans to further the dairy industry, it was a bigger conspiracy than anyone knew about, it went deep, all the way down to the FDA.

But that was a story for another time

     That... was a lot different from the Earth he knew. With this idea of multiple universes, however, it seemed a little less like bullshit. He’d heard of a lot of other planets and empires that had conducted awful experiments, but for humans to turn on each other like that seemed nearly unimaginable.

     ...He decided he really didn’t want to think about that anymore.

             ❝ I’m so sorry…! ❞

         ❝ Sisi..come here, don’t bother them. ❞ She’d scold a little as the dog would quickly come back to her. From her body language, it was very apparent she was making sure her body was very close to herself and away from others. As she feared that if she got near anything, something would get hurt one way or another. ❝ I’m very sorry again…I hope he did not bother you… ❞ She’d say looking down while her voice held a very apologetic tone to it.

     Mikitaka loved animals, perhaps even more than he loved people. Dogs were cute, and exciting, and it had been a long time since he’d gotten to pet one! He crouched down without a second thought, petting the riled up animal and scratching behind its ears. It ended as soon as it had begun, however, the corgi retreating back to its owner- a human girl, much shorter than himself.

      But it didn’t seem that this was meant to be.

      “I suppose ‘unfavourable’ is a good word for it. I’m not really… this,” he said, gesturing toward himself, up and down. “I usually share this form but my landlord is strangely absent. It’s his body, though. This is me,” he added, pointing at the Ring around his neck, displaying it. 

    “Does this mean you could, per say, ‘choose’ any host body that you wish? I apologize for asking so many questions. I am only curious.” It was quite obvious that Mikitaka was eyeing the Ring. It looked quite old, after all, and perhaps that meant this being was even older than himself.

     “Yes; As what most would refer to as a ‘shapeshifter’, in usual circumstances I am capable of altering my appearance.”

“Yeah well all scientists are assholes, they like poking and prodding at things while they squirm and beg for it to stop, like all that animal testing bullshit, that’s not cool, it’s enough to make some dude too scared to go to a doctor”

Todd spoke from experience of course, the Dairy Scientists were some sadistic motherfuckers, they prodded the inside of his brain and any other part of his body they could get their rubber gloves on. Lots of needles, lights, people looming above him, closed spaces, it was a bit too much for a teenager to have to deal with at that time

     “Not all scientists are bad people. It’s the ones who use their authority to abuse other people who should be avoided. The ones who don’t value life.”

     As someone quite interested in science himself, it was a little insulting to hear such a strong opinion. It occurred to him that this might be a sensitive topic as a whole for his newfound acquaintance... so he couldn’t be blamed, really. Miki probably shouldn’t try and pry, especially not after what just happened.
