A Prideful, Yet Cowardly Lion

I’m majoring in history and my minor is education. I really like the idea of being a teacher, I’m thinking around the age of teenagers to college-age students like us.

That's pretty nice. Good luck with the teenagers in future though, they can be quite a handful at times, if you ask me.

Ahh, which one would you rather I call you? For some reason another student told me your name was Amelia, really though, the pleasure’s all mine. 

Maybe someone knew me from my register name? I use Amelia more for those official events, so either Wei Lan or Putri is fine! I guess I'll just call you Amelia then?

I’ve always wanted to visit Asia at least once, but I don’t think I’ll ever get ‘round to doing it. Well you definitely came out on top with the competitive part, you’re at one of the most prestigious universities in New York now! 

[smiles proudly to herself] Well, of course, it wasn't an easy task doing so. But the fruits of my labour are going to blossom if I can pull this off well.  Enough about me for now though, what course are you taking?

*eyebrows crease slightly* Well.. A bit. I’m a Chinese- Malay Singaporean who speaks English and Malay better than her Chinese, so I guess it would be natural that people would think I came from Malaysia.

[blinks] …so you’re from Singapore? [laughs a little] Alright, I’ll try to remember that next time. And now you’re in America?

Yes, you could say that I've travelled quite far in my life. But most of my life was spent at Singapore, quite peaceful I guess? Rather competitive though.

It’s my Chinese name. I do have Malay and English names, but I prefer to be called Wei Lan.

I’ll try to remember that! So you’re from Malaysia, or did I get that wrong?
