7 Things You Should Never Be Ashamed Of
1. Listening to your intuition. 2. Respecting and standing up for yourself. 3. Making your own choices/ living your own life. 4. Taking time for yourself/ investing in self care. 5. Feeling and respecting your own emotions. 6. Following your heart, and Investing in your dreams. 7. Letting go of the past (thatâs not who you are now.)
With all the pressure in media to have the *perfect* body â being skinny, but not too skinny; being curvy, but in the all the right places; being taut, with no lumps, bumps, or stretch marks â it's no wonder that women and girls everywhere are being conditioned to hate their bodies. For this reason and more, loving your body exactly how it is can seem easier said than done, but it turns out that body shaming can be dangerous not just mentally, but physically as well. That's right: Body shaming may literally be making you sick, according to two small studies conducted by Bucknell University researcher Jean Lamont. In Lamont's first study, she asked 177 college-aged women to rate the extent to which they agree or disagree about certain body-related statements, such as "I often feel vulnerable to sickness" and "When I'm not the size I think I should be, I feel ashamed." Lamont used the subjects' answers to determine three things: their amount of body shame, ...

hot tip for 2015: donât comment or speculate on how much someone eats
People often ask me how I found the balance between healthy and unhealthy. Itâs actually pretty simple: I decided I only wanted to do things that have a positive influence on me. I adore the feeling running gives me- so why not run? I admire the amazing fresh and energized feeling healthy eating gives me- so why not eat healthy? I love the taste of chocolate and pie and cake and chips- so why not have some? I hate the sick feeling after a binge- so why should I binge? Moderation, dedication and discipline is the key, live your life to the fullest.

The reality is that fat people are often supported in hating their bodies, in starving themselves, in engaging in unsafe exercise, and in seeking out weight loss by any means necessary. A thin person who does these things is considered mentally ill. A fat person who does these things is redeemed by them. This is why our culture has no concept of a fat person who also has an eating disorder. If youâre fat, itâs not an eating disorder â itâs a lifestyle change.

I will always reblog this because it is so so important.Â

I just want to nail this to every stable surface I can find. I cannot count the amount of times that Iâve seen fat folks being encouraged, cajoled, and even forced into behaviors that would be recognized as disordered eating/exercising patterns in thin folks.Â
Pretty much everything thatâs done on shows like The Biggest Loser would be called out as pro-ana/pro-orthorexia in a thin person. Exercising past the point that it hurts, to the point where youâre throwing up, even injuring yourself? Berating yourself because you didnât lose ENOUGH weight this week? Constantly talking about how fat is weakness and thinness will make everything better, about how you canât stand to be your current weight anymore? Emphasis on weight as a sign of how much control, strength, and worth you have? Viewing food as bad, as a temptation to sin? Constant sharing and talking about tips on how to minimize food intake, how to lose weight?Â
That sounds exactly like every pro-ana/pro-mia blog Iâve ever seen. Itâs also what fat people are told we need to be doing to ourselves until weâre thin.Â

IâVE BEEN SAYING THIS FOR A LONG TIME THAT EATING DISORDERS AND SELF-HARM AND SELF-HATE ARE ENCOURAGED IN FAT PEOPLE.

PRO-ANA TIPS 1) Turn off all the heat in your house and open the windows wide. Walk around in short sleeves and dip your fingers and toes in bowls of ice water every 10-15 minutes. This will do nothing to help you lose weight but it will help train you for the misery that anorexia brings in the form of being constantly cold. You are not allowed reprieve from this âfeel the coldâ stage as you will never be warm again until you recover. 2) Visit your hairdresser and ask her to pluck 25-50% of the hair from your head. While youâre at it ask her to over-process your hair with whatever chemicals she had on hand. If the over-processing makes you lose even more hair thatâs even better. This step will get you used to the dry, brittle, falling out hair youâll have once youâre nutrient deprived. 3) If you plan on purging you should visit your dentist and ask them to grind all the enamel off your teeth. While there also ask if they can pull out a couple of existing fillings. Your teeth will be wrecked soon anyway so you may as well get a head start and learn what it feels like to have super sensitive teeth once your enamel is gone. 4) Ignore all your friends. Donât tell them why. Donât do anything that would give them a chance to try and stop you from cutting them out. You will likely feel utterly miserable. Learn to expect that. You will feel miserable during every day of your eating disorder anyway. The loneliness is a key part of this misery. 5) If youâre in school you should throw away all your textbooks and order their equivalents in a foreign language. This stage will get you started on the cognitive difficulties you will suffer once malnutrition sets in. In a few months of anorexia you will feel like everything is in a foreign language anyway since you canât read it because your malnourished brain has made you stupid. 6) If you have a job ask your boss to start withholding half your pay. With the amount of sick days you have once your e.d. is bad, youâre going to lose half of your pay anyway. This will help you get used to that. In 3 months you should quit your job with no backup plan. This will let you know what it feels like to be fired because your e.d. made you a lousy employee. 7) Throw away your calendar. Stop asking people their name. Leave your backpack and purse at home every time you go out. You need to learn what itâs like to live without a memory. As well as making you stupid malnutrition will rob you of your memory. Stand up every ten minutes to make sure you turned off the kettle/iron/tap. You know you are forgetful and you are anxious about that. Do this all day every day. You will soon forget why anyway as your memory becomes utterly useless. 8) Throw away all your moisturizer, body wash, anything that makes your skin soft and lovely. Like your hair you need to feel what itâs like for that to be dry and fragile. Think back to the last time you fell down a flight of stairs. With your malnourished body and skin you will feel like that every single day. You will wake up bruised and aching and scraped and you wonât know why. The answer is your e.d. The answer to all misery is your e.d. 9) Lock yourself in a dark room. Put up spotlights everywhere else in the house. Do not shower. Do not even wash your face. Play music that makes you sad. When itâs time for bed play a CD of a jackhammer. The ED will rob your ability to sleep well and you need to experience that. If all of this sounds like tortureâŚit is. With this ED you will be sad, and scared, and panicked all the time. This emotional hell will rob you of the ability to do tasks as simple as brushing your teeth. 10) Write a list of every good thing you want out of life. Burn it. As long as you have an eating disorder that is all you will have. You will watch every good thing go up in smoke.

I refuse to starve or restrict myself anymore. I will eat every meal no matter how hard it is or how long it takes, because I know the torture that takes place when you listen to your illness. I will eat even if I keep on gaining. Because having more of me on this planet isnât a bad thing. I am going to make a difference. So can you. Keep fighting. Us ninjaâs donât give up.
