The thing about Shassie, for me. Is not the lap sitting, or the fake dating scene or the compliments. For me its Lassie getting Shawns bike back at the end of the weather man trial, and ducking the attention. And its Shawn working the astronomy case without Lassie knowing to put him back on his feet.
