Today, the Federal Trade Commission launched a public inquiry to better understand how consumers may have been exposed to false or unsupported claims about âgender-affirming careâ, especially as it relates to minors, and to gauge the harms consumers may be experiencing. In a Request for Information, the FTC encourages members of the public to comment on any issues or concerns that are relevant to the FTCâs consideration of this topic, including by submitting any written data, advertisements, social media posts, disclosures, or empirical research.
The public will have 60 days to submit comments at Regulations.gov, no later than September 26, 2025. Once submitted, comments will be posted to Regulations.gov. Individuals wishing to submit confidential, non-public comments should reference the alternative submission guidelines in the RFI.Â
Take care when ordering at the ice cream truck.
This week's roundup is especially important for parents of young children. Hereâs why ice cream bars, tuna salad products, and canned pears are in the news right now.
Ice Cream Bars Recalled Nationwide for Listeria
Thereâs nothing more fun than chasing down the ice cream truck for a frozen treat. You may want to stick to other store-bought or homemade ice cream this week, though.
Richâs Ice Cream Co., based in West Palm Beach, Florida, recalled more than 110,000 cases of ice cream bars that may be contaminated with listeria bacteria. The distributors of Rich's ice cream bars sold the following frozen treats to schools and ice cream truck vendors
It looks like all the recalls in the article are also widely reported in other sources.
The post above seems to have been cut off, but the three recalls are ice cream bars from Rich's Ice Cream Co., tuna salad from Reser's Fine Foods, and PARASHORE Pear Slices by W.W. Industrial Group.
đşđ¸massive recall of food, baking ingredients, and cosmetics due to insanitary conditions, filth, and rat shit contaminationđşđ¸
over 150 items being recalled, including some intended for babies. the FDA warns that all products held or distributed by this company may be dangerous.
this recall is so bad that you need to clean and sanitize anything that has even touched the outside of these products.
the recall link may move in the future. this recall has its own special FDA page right now because the FDA issued an advisory immediately after inspection, before a recall could even be issued. the findings of the inspection were just THAT fucking disgusting.
Products were held under insanitary conditions with potential contamination with filth.
June 3, 2025 On May 27, 2025, Pan-African Food Distributors initiated a recall of various products it sells. FDA continues to have concerns for all products held and distributed by Pan-African Food Distributors due to the insanitary conditions observed at the facility during a routine FDA inspection, including a rodent infestation and numerous rodent droppings on multiple product containers. FDA is advising consumers and retailers not to use, eat, sell, or serve cosmetic and food products distributed by Pan-African Food Distributors of Louisville, Kentucky. FDA is working with the firm and their direct customers to remove all products of concern from the market. More information will be provided in this alert as it becomes available.
some emphasis mine.
the distribution center was inspected, the FDA found a massive rodent infestation, and they shut that shit down. literally, they found a ton of rodent shit all over the products. although the distribution center is in kentucky, these products may have been distributed nationwide.
pan-african food distributors is also doing business as (dba) east africa boutique, LLC.
the FDA says more updates will be issued about this. because this one is a big deal.
Products held under insanitary conditions and contaminated with filth could pose a serious health risk, potentially leading to various illnesses, including leptospirosis, hantavirus infection, salmonellosis, yersiniosis, E.coli infection, and rat-bite fever. People should contact their healthcare provider if they suspect they have developed symptoms as a result of eating or using these products.
some emphasis mine.
the risks here are varied and bad. bad bad. bad and potentially deadly. if you have used or eaten or even held these products and experience symptoms, GO TO A DOCTOR!
Consumers should check their homes for food and cosmetic products distributed by Pan-African Food Distributors and discard all products. If you do not know if your product was distributed by Pan-African Food Distributors, throw it away. Additionally, consumers should carefully clean and sanitize surfaces that could have come in contact with potentially contaminated products.
clean and sanitize ANYTHING these products have touched!!! if you are not sure if your item is part of this recall, the FDA says the risks here are so bad that you should just throw it away!
recalled items include baby food, baking ingredients, various types of flours, soaps, shampoo, lotion, baby powder, and so much more. this list contains over 150 recalled items. so check under the cut for the list, or visit the link at the top of this post.
Give your support !
EVERYONE(!) Iâm blazing this post because at this pace we might barely hit 1,000,000 signaturesâor just fall short. PLEASE reblog this post, no matter where you are from, so we can reach as many EU citizens as possible and end this horrible practice!
For an EU initiative to be accepted to debate, it needs to get the support of at least 1 million EU citizens, with thresholds (minimum numbers) in at least 7 EU countries. The threshold has already been reached in 7 countries, so now it's only a matter of reaching the missing 186,757 signatures from any EU country!
The deadline is tomorrow (May 17th).
If you have Instagram, here's a post by the organizers you can share on your stories.
Under the cut I'll add a message you can copy to send your WhatsApp contacts, written to be able to be re-sent by as many people as possible. I'll include it in Catalan, English, Spanish. I've already formatted it so you don't need to copy-paste each paragraph (like sometimes happens on Tumblr), one "copy" will copy the whole text block.
If anyone speaks more languages, please feel free to reblog this and translate it to your language. Everyone else, let's send it to our contacts and groups we're in, and encourage them to share it, too!
I've updated the number of missing signatures in the texts. Only about 43,000 left now!

I would normally never do this and I normally avoid all political posting, but the FDA has had to stop a lot of food testing due to staff cuts currently planned at least until September 30th.
This is very dangerous for certain foods and if you live in the United States, I highly recommend that you keep track of this list: https://www.fda.gov/food/food-safety-modernization-act-fsma/food-traceability-list
That is a (not fully comprehensive but useful) list of the high-risk foods for contamination and sickness that could result in serious harm or death. The broad strokes are cheeses, but especially soft cheeses, raw/fresh vegetables, pre-sliced fruit packages, ready to eat salads, chicken eggs, milk (bird flu), anything fermented like melons, and pet food, among others.
This is likely not a comprehensive list, so be sure to look things up yourself as well.
If you buy vegetables and plan to eat them, it is best to cook them to a safe temperature and wash their outsides well with water and light scrubbing instead of eating them raw. Treat it like chicken in that regard.
Make sure that the individual foods that you buy often are safe to eat or at risk, and adjust accordingly. This is a fundamental necessity that everyone here will need to follow. Testing is reduced or gone, and reporting on outbreaks will also likely be reduced or banned outright as well.
All you can do is stay safe, use your masks in public again, and make sure that you are clean as well as your food.
Attached below are more tips for vegetables, meat safety should be the same, just be more vigilant.
I love you all and don't want any of you hurt. Let's all support each other, thank you.

I thought I was pretty hip to calling my reps but Iâd never previously heard about speaking to a staffer in charge of a particular issue! Good tips in this post from Gordana Richardson:
âAdvice (from a high-level staffer for a Senator) on contacting your representatives:
You should NOT be signing online petitions or emailing. They are essentially ignored or trashed. InsteadâŚ
YOU SHOULD MAKE 6 CALLS A DAY: 2 each (DC office and your local office) to your 2 Senators & your 1 Representative. Calls are what all the congresspeople pay attention to.
Every single day, the Senior Staff and the Senator get a report of the 3 most-called-about topics for that day at each of their offices (DC and local), and exactly how many people discussed said topics. They're also sorted by zip code and area code.
Republican callers generally outnumber Democrat callers 4-1; closer to 11-1 regarding hot-button issues. Congressmen who may be on the fence to vote with the their party can be swayed by call volume. In the last 8 years, Republicans have called, and Democrats haven't.
So, when you call:
A) When calling the DC office, ask for the Staff member in charge of the topic you're calling about ("Hi, I'd like to speak with the staffer in charge of Healthcare, please") â local offices won't always have specific ones, but they might. Record names of staffers you speak with. Don't leave a message if at all possible.
B ) Give them your zip code even if they donât ask for it. Extra points if you live in a zip code that traditionally votes for them, since they'll want to make sure they get/keep your vote.
C) Make it personal if at all possible. "I voted for you in the last election and I'm worried/happy/whatever" "I'm a teacher, and I am appalled by Betsy DeVos," "As a single motherâŚ" etc.â
Calling Your Congresspersons
Not my post but please feel free to copy and paste to share with others
*******************************
FOR THOSE OF YOU LOOKING TO TURN YOUR ANGER INTO ACTION, here's some advice from a high-level staffer for a Senator. Re-posting from a friend of mine:
There are two things that we should be doing all the time right now, and they're by far the most important things.
You should NOT be bothering with online petitions or emailing.
1) The best thing you can do to be heard and get your congressperson to pay attention is to have face-to-face time â if they have town halls, go to them. Go to their local offices. If you're in DC, try to find a way to go to an event of theirs. Go to the "mobile offices" that their staff hold periodically (all these times are located on each congressperson's website). When you go, ask questions. A lot of them. And push for answers. The louder and more vocal and present you can be at those the better.
2) But those in-person events don't happen every day. So, the absolute most important thing that people should be doing every day is calling.
YOU SHOULD MAKE 6 CALLS A DAY:
2 each (DC office and your local office) to your 2 Senators & your 1 Representative.
The staffer was very clear that any sort of online contact basically gets immediately ignored, and letters pretty much get thrown in the trash (unless you have a particularly strong emotional story â but even then it's not worth the time it took you to craft that letter).
Calls are what all the congresspeople pay attention to. Every single day, the Senior Staff and the Senator get a report of the 3 most-called-about topics for that day at each of their offices (in DC and local offices), and exactly how many people said what about each of those topics. They're also sorted by zip code and area code. She said that Republican callers generally outnumber Democrat callers 4-1, and when it's a particular issue that single-issue-voters pay attention to (like gun control, or planned parenthood funding, etc...), it's often closer to 11-1, and that's recently pushed Republican congressmen on the fence to vote with the Republicans. In the last 8 years, Republicans have called, and Democrats haven't.
So, when you call:
A) When calling the DC office, ask for the Staff member in charge of whatever you're calling about ("Hi, I'd like to speak with the staffer in charge of Healthcare, please") â local offices won't always have specific ones, but they might. If you get transferred to that person, awesome. If you don't, that's ok â ask for that person's name, and then just keep talking to whoever answered the phone. Don't leave a message (unless the office doesn't pick up at all â then you can â but it's better to talk to the staffer who first answered than leave a message for the specific staffer in charge of your topic).
B) Give them your zip code. They won't always ask for it, but make sure you give it to them, so they can mark it down. Extra points if you live in a zip code that traditionally votes for them, since they'll want to make sure they get/keep your vote.
C) If you can make it personal, make it personal. "I voted for you in the last election and I'm worried/happy/whatever" or "I'm a teacher, and I am appalled by Betsy DeVos," or "as a single mother" or "as a white, middle class woman," or whatever.
D) Pick 1-2 specific things per day to focus on. Don't rattle off everything you're concerned about â they're figuring out what 1-2 topics to mark you down for on their lists. So, focus on 1-2 per day. Ideally something that will be voted on/taken up in the next few days, but it doesn't really matter â even if there's not a vote coming up in the next week, call anyway. It's important that they just keep getting calls.
E) Be clear on what you want â "I'm disappointed that the Senator..." or "I want to thank the Senator for their vote on... " or "I want the Senator to know that voting in _____ way is the wrong decision for our state because... " Don't leave any ambiguity.
F) They may get to know your voice/get sick of you â it doesn't matter. The people answering the phones generally turn over every 6 weeks anyway, so even if they're really sick of you, they'll be gone in 6 weeks.
From experience since the election: If you hate being on the phone & feel awkward (which is a lot of people) don't worry about it â there are a bunch of scripts (Indivisible.org has some, there are lots of others floating around these day). After a few days of calling, it starts to feel a lot more natural.
Put the 6 numbers in your phone (all under P â Politician.) An example is McCaskill MO, Politician McCaskill DC, Politician Blunt MO, etc., which makes it really easy to click down the list each day.

Lyra, my beloved cat of 13 years, passed away this year on Father's Day. She's been by my side through very difficult times and was my little rock of steady and unrelenting love. I struggled a lot drawing this, and struggled a lot posting it, but I know I would've wanted to read a comic like this that validated my grief for her when I lost her.
Wherever you are, Lyra my little summer star, I love you always! Thank you for being the best thing in my life.

Life-changing OCD hack is learning that you can literally call poison control to check if you fucked up and took medications wrong in a way that could kill you instead of having a panic attack while reading reddit and quora threads for an hour. They won't even be mad at you. Like obviously don't do it every day or something but genuinely you can do this if you need to
as people turn more and more towards the internet as a first choice for information, poison control (which has rebranded as poison help? i think?) is seeing fewer and fewer callers
part of this is because the USAmerican birth rates have slowed, and the number 1 culprit for why you'd call poison control is kids under 5 put shit in their mouths all the time
but part of it is BECAUSE people are turning to the internet first
and you don't have to! poison control is FREE and available in EVERY US STATE AND TERRITORY
they are staffed 24/7 365 days a year! they do everything they can to minimize wait times and they have an ENORMOUS database of medications, household cleaners, chemicals, pesticides, and MORE! and not only information on JUST those things, but how they interact with other things! they can even give you advice on if your pet ingests something they shouldn't!
but poison control isn't federally funded! they're a frankenstein mishmash of state funded, federally funded, and a couple of other weird ones (like organizations helping with funding) just for flavor. poison control NEEDS you to be politically aware. keep a finger on local and state politics; if your state is voting to shut down their poison control center, make sure your reps hear about how pissed you are!
poison control saves lives, but even more than that, it keeps people out of emergency rooms and walk-ins when they don't have to be. when Louisiana closed its PCC in 1988, people who called the PCC hotline were instructed to call their local hospital instead. the number of medically-treated poisonings rose by 42%...meaning ERs and walk-ins were flooded with people who'd taken, say, one extra pill of ibuprofen by accident, or got a bit of rubbing alcohol in their mouth, or got their dog's flea medicine on their skin. stuff that was SCARY, sure...but wouldn't have needed medical care at all if there had just been someone to tell those people you can just wash your mouth out, or wash your skin, or refrain from taking any more ibuprofen for at least 24 hours!
anyway help ur local PCC, put the pressure on your political reps, and if you ever have questions like "hypothetically what would happen if you inhaled iodine," you can call 1 800 222 1222 and speak with a real live reassuring person any time day or night!
Not to derail, but as someone who used to have pretty severe phone anxiety, I've used the official poison control website (www.poison.org) as an alternative to calling. They have a lovely chat feature, if, for whatever reason, you don't want to/can't call (also thinking of my D/deaf and HoH friends) and looking at their site, it does seem to route to the local PCC centers.
They have safety checks in place after chatting with them in the form of automated texts that you reply to within a set time or they'll send emergency services to you. They even have an official pill identifier, in case you get your pills mixed up, and helpful tips on their site.

everyone else: if you can spare a few bucks, would you please donate to Watch Duty? theyâre doing Godâs work, and theyâre keeping all of their critical safety features free forever. that canât be cheap, itâs such beautiful important labor, and itâs helping hundreds of thousands of people right now.
be safe, LA. love you.
babe. I know weâre all going thru a lot rn but I just wanna give u the heads up that sesame streets future is in jeopardy. hbo has chosen not to renew it for new episodes (a series that has been going since 1969) and the residents of 123 Sesame Street no longer have a home :(
n all seriousness sesame street is such an important piece of living media. it has been around for DECADES and from day 1 highlighted the importance of diversity empathy and education for children in a fun way. their mission statement is âHelping Kids Everywhere Grow Smarter, Stronger, and Kinderâ. itâs been such an influence for so many people at a formative age. itâs creators made it w the intention that it could be a resource for underprivileged kids and help them prepare for kindergarten. thousands of people have learned english from our friends on sesame. pls (at media corporations) donât let a beloved cultural phenomenon die
Would be lovely if people could spread this link to their donations page around the internet
Individual donors and partners can have a major impact. Join Sesame Workshopâs Mission to Help Kids Everywhere Grow Smarter, Stronger, and K
Letâs be clear that the issue NOT that they donât have a âhome.â
SESAME STREET NEVER LEFT PBS!!!!
I realize that most of the coverage of the HBO deal ignored this fact, and so people online all freaked out thinking it would only be on HBO, but this was never true.
The deal was for HBO to get to air new episodes a few months before those episodes aired on PBS. And in return, Sesame Workshop - a nonprofit that does a lot of educational research and development beyond just the one TV show - got a huge influx of funding.
Which means that yes, they are losing this funding source, which is definitely bad! They will need more support! They get money from the government and from grants, but the HBO cash was a lot more.
But also, they are generally a very well-run nonprofit, and Iâm guessing they knew the HBO money wouldnât be forever. So I doubt theyâre going to go under soon or anything.
But as far as ânot having a home,â Sesame Street always has, and unless public television in the US goes away entirely likely always will, have a home on PBS.
Hey, kind of a long shot but figured it never hurts to ask:
Do any of my followers live or know someone in Oakland, CA whoâs looking for a dog? Our friend Richard and his wife just had a baby and theyâve tried so hard but the new baby and dog are just not compatible.
Heâs about nine, very high energy and affectionate. Not a good fit with kids or cats as heâs pretty high prey drive but very friendly and well socialized otherwise.
Hereâs Milo
Shoot me a DM if interested. Theyâd love to be able to see him sometimes if youâd also like to make friends with some cool nerds.
This is open to anyone on the west coast or within a 12 hour drive. Theyâre gonna have to put him down this week if they canât place him and heâs got several good years left!
đ¨KOSA is back and being pushed heavily in congress right now
I really hate to do this, but KOSA, the bill that is a mass censorship and surveillance bill that will specifically censor all LGBT content online to "protect kids", is back.
KOSA advocates have brought in support from Elon Musk (I wish I was making this up) and are trying to get him to get Donald Trump to speak out in support of it. (And they lie and tell us it's not an anti-queer bill đ). The reason so is because the holdouts that are stopping this from passing are...republicans. It's GOP House leaders Steve Scalise and Mike Johnson. If they succeed and put this in an end of year spending bill, it will be near impossible to get it out and it will most likely be passed. Pro-KOSA advocates were on the hill today pushing hard to pass it. They have a lot of support behind them. There is only two weeks left in congress, so if they don't succeed, it's over.
The ONLY way this bill has stalled so much so far is because of calls driven to congress. It has worked and can still work. Please, spread this as much as you can and call House leadership and spread the word! You don't have to be from their district. You can pretend to be GOP. It doesn't matter, just call and voice your opposition. Trump and Musk clearly have a lot of sway over these people and I'm really scared they will succeed at the last minute!!
Here are their numbers: Scalise:Â 202-225-3015 Johnson:Â 202-225-2777
If you don't know what to say, use either call script! It takes less than a minute, I swear.

btw while people continue to fight the system don't forget about Undue Medical Debt (formerly RIP Medical Debt), a charity that buys and forgives medical debt. on average a donation of $10 will forgive $1,000 of medical debt.
I'm fairly confident that this is now the one original post I've made that has gotten the most notes, and I honestly couldn't be happier. the more attention we give this, the higher the chances that someone will see this and donate. medical debt is both one of the most crushing things a person can deal with and one of the stupidest things humanity has invented. and if you live in the US, I have no doubt that you've had to deal with medical debt in your life, either for yourself or a loved one. even a small donation can do so much good, and now is the time of year when we are encouraged to think of others.
I unexpectedly had a medical debt paid by Undue Medical Debt last month. It was an incredible gift and sorely needed. I had never heard of them and to know that strangers cared enough to help clear that was incredibly meaningful. I hope to pay it forward.
Thank you for sharing this! I'm so glad to see the positive outcomes from giving to this charity.
Theyâre also a four-star charity on Charity Navigator: https://www.charitynavigator.org/ein/471442997
Undue Medical Debt has earned a 4/4 Star rating on Charity Navigator. This Charitable Organization is headquartered in Long Island City, NY.
Pro adulting tip! Set up a recurring donation like this on a credit card you donât normally use, and put the card on autopay. That keeps the card from being closed for inactivity, and improves your credit rating by extending the average age of your accounts. đ
