10 Rules of Survival if Stopped by the Police
1. Be polite and respectful when stopped by the police. Keep your mouth closed.
2. Remember that your goal is to get home safely. If you feel that your rights have been violated, you and your parents have the right to file a formal complaint with your local police jurisdiction.
3. Donât, under any circumstance, get into an argument with the police.
4. Always remember that anything you say or do can be used against you in court.
5. Keep your hands in plain sight and make sure the police can see your hands at all times.
6. Avoid physical contact with the police. No sudden movements, and keep hands out of your pockets.
7. Do not run, even if you are afraid of the police.
8. Even if you believe that you are innocent, do not resist arrest.
9. Donât make any statements about the incident until you are able to meet with a lawyer or public defender.
10. Stay calm and remain in control. Watch your words, body language and emotions.

How to Get Over Past Mistakes
1. Remind yourself that everyone makes mistakes, does things wrongs, and has moments of regret. There are no perfect people out there. In that sense, you are just the same as everybody else.
2. Remind yourself that âthat was then, and this is nowâ. You canât turn back the clocks and change what you did, but you can be a different person in the future.
3. Allow yourself to experience and name the feelings you are struggling with (regret, guilt, shame, disappointment, embarrassment, sadness, etc.) Then make the decision to let those feelings go. In the end, itâs unhealthy to become attached to them.
4. Ask yourself what you can learn from the situation. What would you do differently if you found yourself in that situation again? How can it change the person you are now (so that you feel better about yourself)?
5. Recognise that failings and mistakes are part of the growth process. Itâs inevitable that youâll encounter obstacles, challenges and failures throughout life. Donât let that stop you from really living life.
6. Remind yourself that âit was what you did, itâs not who you are.â Donât allow any single event or experience to define you. You are more than â so donât let that become your identity, or your destiny.
7. Give yourself the gift of a new day and a new start. Forgive yourself, let go of the past, and with confidence move on with your life.
Yes, even if almost made same mistakes, find yourself stoping and changing course. Never again!
How to Recognise a Toxic Friend
1. Is this a person who always puts you down? A friend is someone who accepts you as you are â and allows you to be different, and to think for yourself, and to make your own decisions â without an explanation. However, if a person is demeaning or always puts you down, criticises your opinions, or the way you dress or look, then thatâs someone to avoid as theyâre a toxic friend.
2. Do they gossip about you? A friend is someone you can totally trust. You can share your deepest secrets, and say whatâs on your mind â and they wonât tell a person or betray your trust. However, if you always have to watch what you say around a friend as theyâre likely to gossip or let something slip then itâs likely that this person is a toxic friend.
3. Do they constantly mock and make fun of you? A bit of gentle ribbing shows affection between friends. But if theyâre always making fun of you, or highlighting your faults, or attacking you in public, then theyâre not a genuine friend.
4. How do you feel after being with your friend? Think about your answers to the following:
- Do you feel defensive when you spend time with them?
- Do you feel hurt or upset after spending time with them?
- Do you feel as if you always have to justify yourself instead of being ânaturalâ around your friend?
- Do you enjoy their company or do you feel ambivalent?
- Do they undermine your confidence and self-esteem?
- Do you feel attacked and used after spending time with them?
- Does the friendship feel unbalanced and require a lot of work?
- Is it more a competition than a genuine friendship?
Note: If you recognize the signs of a toxic friend, then itâs time to move on and find a different friend. Being with this individual will wreak your happiness.

Fact:Â A national computer system and strict standards are in place to ensure ethical and fair distribution of organs. Organs are matched by blood and tissue typing, organ size, medical urgency, waiting time and geographic location.
Fact:Â People of all ages and medical histories should consider themselves potential donors. Your medical condition at the time of death will determine what organs and tissue can be donated.
Fact:Â Organs and tissue that can be donated include: heart, kidneys, lungs, pancreas, liver, intestines, corneas, skin, tendons, bone, nerve and heart valves.
Fact: Even if you have indicated your wishes on your driverâs license, state donor registry or the National Donate Life Registry, share your decision with your family so they know your wishes.
Fact: Organ donation is consistent with the beliefs of most major religions. Read about theological perspectives on organ and tissue donation
Fact:Â An open-casket funeral is possible for organ and tissue donors.
Fact:Â There is no cost to the donorâs family or estate for organ and tissue donation.
Fact:Â If you are sick or injured and admitted to the hospital, the number one priority is to save your life. Organ donation can only be considered after brain death has been declared by a physician.
Fact:Â Information about an organ donor is only released to the recipient if the family of the donor requests or agrees to it. Otherwise, a patientâs privacy is maintained for both donor families and recipients.
Fact:Â Living donation increases the existing organ supply.
Fact:Â Donors are needed for all races and ethnic groups. Transplant success rates increase when organs are matched between members of the same ethnic background.

âBe confused, itâs where you begin to learn new things. Be broken, itâs where you begin to heal. Be frustrated, itâs where you start to make more authentic decisions. Be sad, because if we are brave enough we can hear our heartâs wisdom through it. Be whatever you are right now. No more hiding. You are worthy, always.â

How to Deal with hurt and Pain
1. Try and put into words exactly how youâre feeling. Is it the pain of rejection? Is it an overwhelming feeling of shame and self-loathing? Is it a sense of disbelief that youâve been treated so cruelly by others? Is it a sense of utter desperation?
2. Try and find a way of expressing the pain. Sometimes we can tell the person who has hurt usâ but often we feel that they wonât be responsive. If that is the case, find someone you can open up to. Itâs really important that you have the chance to honestly express what youâre going through. If you feel thereâs no-one you can talk to right now, then perhaps try journaling, or using some kind of art, like music or painting.
3. If the painâs related to something that happened, admit that you canât go back and change the past. You need to let it go and keep your eyes ahead. You are not defined by what happened to you, and you have what it takes to live a rich, rewarding life.
4. Related to this, forgive yourself and donât hold on to regrets. Learn what you can â and then choose to move ahead. Donât be a victim of your past, or other people.
5. Reconnect with the person that you were previously. Think of who you might have been if this had never happened. You can still be that person: they are still a part of you.
6. Focus on the things that bring you joy and happiness, and focus on those people who love care for you.

A Sun Pillar over Norway Image Credit: Thorleif Rødland
Explanation: Have you ever seen a sun pillar? When the air is cold and the Sun is rising or setting, falling ice crystals can reflect sunlight and create an unusual column of light. Ice sometimes forms flat, six-sided shaped crystals as it falls from high-level clouds. Air resistance causes these crystals to lie nearly flat much of the time as they flutter to the ground. Sunlight reflects off crystals that are properly aligned, creating the sun-sun-pillar effect. In the featured picture taken last week, a sun-pillar reflects light from a Sun setting over Fensfjorden, Norway.

Decoding the Honey Beeâs âWaggle Danceâ
Honey bees give a new meaning to âdancing in the dark.â When a successful forager bee returns to the pitch-black hive, it uses an elaborate dance pattern called the âwaggle danceâ to indicate both the direction of food in relation to the Sun and its distance from the hive. And the worker bees donât actually see the waggle danceâthey feel it: their antennae are highly sensitive to air vibrations. âWhat they sense is the motion thatâs created,â says Jerome G. Rozen, Jr., curator in the Division of Invertebrate Zoology, who oversees one of the worldâs largest collections of bee eggs, larvae, and pupae at the Museum.
