Nor' Easter

Nor'easters (shown on the left) are very similar to hurricanes (shown on the left), they share gale force winds, severe damage, and a counterclockwise rotation. However, nor'easters unlike hurricanes do not have an eye, or center of the storm. Flooding, major waves, and rain are a few other characteristics the two share. A hurricane is a tropical storm, a nor'easter on the other hand is not, although a hurricane can form in a tropical storm environment. 

Global wind patterns can be affected by the rotation of the earth, and ultimately affect a Nor’easter. The Westerlies travels directly through the region in which Nor'easters usually form, this direction of wind can push Nor'easters out to sea, and cause them to completely miss hitting Vermont all together. Shown in the picture below the Westerlies rotate counterclockwise, this would be the reason as to why Nor'easters rotate this direction. The Polar Easterlies could collide with the Westerlies and fuel a Nor'easter.

The warm air then condenses when it gets high enough in the sky and either turns into rain, which then falls, or if the temperatures are cold enough, the water vapor that was present in the warm air that rose turns into snow and then falls. The process is then repeated again and again.

Local wind patterns throughout the east coast of the United States and Canada can cause the pressure in regions to differ. At mountain ranges such as the Green Mountains can have a lower or higher pressure than surrounding areas, along with major bodies of water. When and where the Nor'easter hits depends on what kind of pressure there will be and what the wind speed will be. If the storm hits in certain areas, the wind speeds could be greater or smaller then surrounding areas because of the pressure in that region.
