“Stick with nursing, I want to see you in that cute uniform.” he teased her, starting to follow her. “Cheerleading practice? Damn I missed it.” he joked. “I was going for my daily run but apparently the weather had other ideas.”

“i have a feeling the nurse uniform in your head isn’t the scrubs we actually wear.” leila laughed, setting off again in the direction of the sorority house when he seemed to be walking with her. “i mean, if you want me to do a flip, all you have to do is ask.” she joked back. “nice! how far did you get before it started raining?”

“Har har very funny Leila.” he replied. “I can see that now. Thank you very much.” he ran a hand through his wet hair. “What are you doing out in this rain?”

“i should go in to stand up comedy if nursing doesn’t work out.” leila joked, stopping walking entirely to talk to grant. “walking home from practice. why are you out shirtless in the rain?”

“Wow, there’s so many choices”, Nate marvelled. He really wasn’t used to having so many options. “Let’s go to Fat Boys”, he decided, knowing that it would be quieter – and therefore less overwhelming – than the mall.

“there’s so many more that aren’t so close to campus that i could show you. i’m a local to san diego but for today, we can stick to the ones near campus..” leila added. “let’s go to fat boys.” she repeated and set them off in the direction.

“I have the best ideas and you’re lucky to have me”, AJ laughed as she got to her feet. “Come on, let’s go”, she added, extending her hand to help Leila to her feet too.

“exactly! you’ll be my favourite person in no time.” leila laughed along with the other lady as she took amber’s hand to be pulled up - stretching a little once stood up. “i am so excited for this now.”

“I needed it as well so don’t worry” she said with  a soft smile on her lips. “Well if I get tanned will be thanks to you” Skylar chuckled. 

“if you tan, by the sounds of it, we’ll call it a miracle and i’ll thank jesus.”

“sure! i’d love to get either, whatever you’d prefer.” lily agreed with a smile.

leila gave a pause while she made a decision. “milkshakes. let’s grab milkshakes from fat boys.”

“Well if you want it righ now we can go for an ice cream” she smiled “Let’s go”

leila followed along with madison, stepping to her side as they walked. “so come on, what’s your go to ice cream flavour?”

the walk over to fatboys wasn’t bad at all, the sun was beating down just enough to make it a warm summer day but not too much so that it felt like walking through the sahara desert. soon enough the two had made it inside the beloved restaurant, the air conditioning greeting them with a cool blast of air as they opened the door and the smell of french fries greeting their nose “do you wanna sit over there?” she asked, pointing to a booth near the window. “i don’t know what it is about this place but the minute we stepped inside my stomach started growling…maybe i’m hungrier than i thought”

fat boys was probably one of her favourite places - though she considered it a treat. “over there is perfect.” she agreed, walking over. “have you eaten today?” leila asked. she did like to check in on her friends and make sure they were getting enough to eat and drink - it was the maternal instinct in her to make sure everyone was okay. 

“Dude, it’s hotter than fuck out here. I am not about to say no to ice cream.”

“it is but i think i’m pretty good with heat - though i still want that ice cream to keep cool. does that make sense?”

“Yes to all of that,” August said excitedly, starting to lead the way there. “I think if we ask really nicely, they’ll give us all three on top.”

“i hope so! if it’s that short guy, we might even get it for a discount.” she considered, stepping in time with august.

“Fine but I’m getting one of their loaded, fancy shakes”, Noah responded before taking her hand to seal the deal.

“you say that like i’m going to judge you for it. i condone you getting one as much as i’m going to get one.” she laughed, shaking his hand in a deal.

“I’ll at least make sure that we’re somewhere classier than Mars Bar at the time”, Arden retorted. “My car is parked over at the sorority house. Are you cool to walk over there with me or do I need to pull the car around like an Uber service?”

“that’s all i ask.” leila grinned at their little joke. “oh man, as much as i would love a personal chauffer, i am more than happy to walk with you to the car. i’ll even sit in the front seat with you.”

“Now my ego’s going to soar, I hope you know that.” Violet teased as she pushed herself up. “Yeah there’s one around the corner. It’s one of my favourites.”

“you are so welcome then.” leila joked back with the other. “then i don’t know what we’re waiting for. get me to that ice cream shop.”

“the heat does make a milk shake sound really good right now” ollie sighed, sitting up and leaning back onto her arms so that she could talk to leila better. “i don’t think fat boys is a fat walk from here…we could go there and get milkshakes and maybe even fries or something, i’m kind of hungry for like a snack” she said, patting her stomach as she felt it growl. “c’mon, we better get walking before the sun starts blaring down a lot worse than this” she groaned as she finally stood up, wiping any remnants of grass off of her backside and shoving the book she was reading into her tote that she then slung over her shoulder.

“tell me about it!” leila said, nodding. “fat boys it is then! we can get food and milkshakes.” she agreed and starting stretch her leg out before pushing up to a stand. her body leaning down to pick up her handbag. “let’s go.”

“You’re forgiven after this incredibly rude action” she said teasingly. Venus looked at her friend stretching a little before she announced she was ready to go. “You’ll have to deal with me not knowing what flavour am I choosing today though”

leila laughed along with venus. “so glad i’m forgiven.” she continued the joke. “that’s totally okay. i’d just pick every flavour i know i like in a list and then close my eyes and point. that will make you work out pretty quick if you actually want that flavour or not too.”
