What do I do with this behavior?
I think my good friend Jerry is gay. In fact I know he is gay, because my intuition says so. (I am good at detecting others who are in distress/discomfort living within their own skin.)
I don't know if he is "testing" me to see if I would support him but I constantly make positive statements regarding the LGBT community. I gently scold him when He is constantly bashing on them in an effeminate and high-school girl manner of speaking. This is an example of things he blurts out in the span of ONE short car ride together:
"Yuck did you hear that guy at Starbucks say he had a boyfriend? Uhh why is he talking about his BOYfriend?"
"Do you know that Vietnamese singer who cross dresses even though he has a wife and children? Isn't that so gross!?"
"Ew I don't get why guys hit on me, like what the hell, it is sooo gross."
Jerry is way past his teenage years. He constantly makes homophobic remarks even when we are nowhere near a "homosexual" topic. However, he declares that he does not like guys. It's strange to me, because to me he's clearly as gay as a banana is a fruit.
It's so sad, because it's the year 2014 and I feel sorry if he believes that his traditional family would not accept him, or worse, if he does even realize that he is gay.
