CAN’T BELIEVE I OVERLOOKED THIS. kyoya is also the first one to point out haruhi and tamaki possibly falling in love!! keep in mind he knew basically from the beginning that haruhi was a girl. he’s weighed the pros and cons of courting haruhi himself vs letting tamaki court her. he’s assessed the situation and decided that it would be better for the club as a whole if he stayed out of the equation. if it’s better for the club, it’s better for kyoya, and there’s no better motivator than self-interest.

There’s so much LOADED in that—not only with Kyoya showing that he does care for both of them, the two people who have clearly the most read him behind his cold facade, but also in how we know Tamaki’s dad really values and is proud of Kyoya and I think he said that to Yushio not just because he probably knows his own son is in love with Haruhi, but because he knows Kyoya probably wouldn’t want Yushio to make that decision for him. Yuzuru has always been pretty complimentary of Kyoya, even defending Kyoya to his father. Especially with how close Tamaki is to Kyoya, it wouldn’t surprise me that Yuzuru grew to really care for Kyoya and see how much he hated his father’s dictation of his life, because honestly we all saw how the man warmed up to Haruhi.
