I really do like the Amazon iPhone app. So quick and easy to find and buy things. Some times too easy ;)

Install problem: APC Smart-UPS 1500, USB, Powerchute Business edition, and Windows Server 2008 R2 x64
UPS: APC Smart-UPS 1500VA (SUA1500I) Server OS: Windows Server 2008 R2 (x64) Software: APC Powerchute Business Edition 9.01 Connectition type: USB
So after installing all the Powerchute software on the server the software would not pick up the UPS. All I got was "Device Communications: Not Established" even though it showed up in device manager.
When I installed the software I didn't plug in the USB cable until it told me it was going to search for the UPS.
What I did to fix this:
I uninstalled any Powerchute software (agent, server, and console)
I went in to device manager and uninstalled the UPS also from under "Human Interface Devices" - I left the UPS plugged in, I did not unplug the USB cable
I reinstalled the Powerchute software and this time it just picked it up straight away
I hope that helps some one as Googling didn't help me!
Now it's illegal to write down prices in a Tesco supermarket
Are they finally starting to do up the central line trains?! New seat covers on this one!
How to change your display name in iChat
I use iChat on my Mac to talk with people over Google Chat. I've just spent a while looking all over changing my name with no luck of it actually changing in iChat (but it did when using Chat via the Google web site for example). Eventually I found it though :)
Open the Address Book app on your Mac, go to the 'Card' menu, and then choose 'Go to My Card'. Change it there and reopen iChat.
Sorted!

Google+
So I've got myself on to Google's new attempt at their own social networking site. I like it, I think. It needs a lot of polishing off yet before it is ready though. It definitely has potential as the Google developers seem to be happily out in public on it feeding back and hopefully listening to the public.
IE9 'shocker'
I've just installed IE9 on my Windows 7 virtual machine to do some testing and I can not believe how hard it was to add Google as a search provider! Discusting.
Basically if you search providers and from your IP it gets that you are in the UK, Google isn't listed. You have to go and change your location to the US (English) before it (and a lot of others) show up. Bloody joke!!
I think they should make the trains run 24 hours. It would reduce all this violence.

London Overground
I emailed London Overground this morning about their failings in live train data and unfair charging for zone 1 travel that I don’t do, and only an idiot would go on a route that would.
This was after useless data on TfL and NR websites this morning left me stood on the platform looking at a board of cancelled and delayed trains. If I had known I would have stayed on the underground in the first place.
Nice to see the new more frequent timetables in place finally. I hoped it would bring improvements too, sadly not. Something had gone wrong yet again this evening (surprise!) so when I got to Camden Road I found several trains arriving just a few minutes apart after each other due to how they had just stacked up so quickly. No inconvenience for me this time though! ;)
Spotted my first 'Stickers on the Central Line' sticker this morning!
Thumbs up for brilliant customer service from a company for a change!
The company is Worx (they make power tools). We had a new does all sorts tool go terribly wrong. Using it for the first time and something inside broke, followed by sharp bits flying out at high speed. Somehow through luck, I didn't end up with a nastily sliced open hand down A&E. They dealt with it absolutely brilliantly. No messing around or anything, and lovely staff.
Thumbs up Worx for showing how customer service should be done.
Windows 7 64bit VirtualBox VM on a Max OSX host
I had to tick the following setting just now to get the installer to run for Windows 7 Professional 64bit on VirtualBox 4 on a Mac Book Air OS X 10.6.6. Other wise it crashed out just after trying to load the graphics.
Settings (of the Windows 7 VM) -> System -> Motherboard -> tick 'Enable IO APIC'

A bit scary if you think about it too much…
(Recent Paris to HK flight with Air France)
I'm sure I warned about me ranting about TfL. I have a couple bubbling over at the moment!
Here's a question, one I shall ask London Overground directly and eagerly await the response.
Why when I use PAYG on my Oyster card do I have to remember to touch it on at one of the pink points when changing between the Central line and the Overground while heading from/to Camden Road (zone 2), otherwise I get charged for a zone 4 to 1 journey. I never touch zone 1. I read once that it's a plausible route?! What?! What's a plausible route from zone 4 on the eastern end of the Central line to the Overground station at Camden Road (not underground!) that would involve zone 1.
To add to the madness, it doesn't happen if I have a 7 day/monthly zone 2 to 4 pass on.
Just another way for them to trick what money they can out of people?
