i like the phrases "it's not for me," "it's not my thing," and "i'm not the target audience" because they're the most concise way to express "this thing that you enjoy has merits but idgaf about it" without being aggressive

fuuuuck i just realized that the future idealized version of myself cant exist without current me being the catalyst for change and doing hard things. has anybody heard about this
Why?!
"it's all in your head" correct! unfortunately I am also in there
Mental illness is all in your head in the same way that prostate cancer is all in your ass.

have you guys done that “what kind of reader are you” quiz and if so what did you get
here’s mine
ah here’s the link guys
Orange reader
I would like to request book recommendations that are the following:
1) Fantasy
2) Magic focused
3) Not made for kids (no middle grade or younger YA. New Adult and Adult prefered)
4) not set in modern times
Bonus:
5) I’d like gay characters.
6) please not Sanderson, Tolkien, or GOT
someone already recced you Metal From Heaven but I'm seconding it!
Greenteeth by Molly O'Neill is a recent favourite of mine, about two fae and a witch who go on a quest to save a small village from an evil force
North is the Night by Emily Rath was an exciting read. it follows two best friends, one who is abducted by an evil witch and the other who goes to find her. I really loved the magic in this one
and Someone You Can Build a Nest In by John Wiswell is wonderful. it follows a strange creature trying to survive as strangers hunt them down to reclaim the house they've been living in
if you like Arthuriana, try Half Sick of Shadows by Laura Sebastian. it was a fantastic reimagining of events from the perspective of the seer who foretold what might happen to Arthur and i still love it years after reading it
maybe also look into Emily Lloyd-Jones - her books are marketed as YA but they don't have the typical markers of YA fantasy and I really enjoy the Welsh mythology she infuses into her character-driven stories
subscribing to a fic isn’t enough I need the author to blast a bat signal into the night sky whenever they update
Me checking on one of my beloved ao3 fics that hasn't been updated since 2017

Sweet mother, I can't long for girls--Arachne has crushed me with desire for fiber crafts
Should I buy a loom? No. Do I enjoy weaving? Very much no. Do I want to buy a loom and do some weaving? YES BADLY
Sweet Arachne, I cannot knit, you overcame me with longing too many times already this month and my tendons are fucked up. Please slow down with the longing for FIVE MINUTES
Arachne told me to tell you that if you had a spinning wheel you could probably spend your wrist-recovery time making yourself more sexy sexy yarns.
O cursed oracle! The gods are demanding indeed
At least two major artists (Lady Gaga and Chappell Roan) making a point to vocally support trans people the Grammys is a big deal in this political climate.
Also I think it's worth highlighting that they are both cis women, because bigots want us to believe cis women and trans women/trans people are at odds with each other.
Lady Gaga has ALWAYS been like this and ALWAYS been in our corner.
She used to be slandered as a trans woman tricking the public back when she debuted, and her response was literally "and so what if I was? Would it be so terrible?", rather than the expected "no I'm not but I support them!" or honestly the more normal for the time "I'm not a freak, Ew.".
This was at her debut, btw, so when her star power was at its weakest. And she still stood by us completely unflinchingly.
Lady Gaga has ALWAYS been like this. I fuckin love her.
Yes thank you for bringing this up!!!
no way ppl are using ai to write ao3. what happened to being a tortured writer. what happened to blood on the page. what happened to the ao3 curse. people used to get run over, have their houses burned down, break their entire spines and they still put in the work to finish a chapter. fuck you, using ai. y’all are weak
Me at age 13, exhausted at school after staying up all night to read fanfic: I can’t wait until I’m an adult and I can stay up reading without any consequences!
Me, an adult, exhausted at work after staying up all night reading fanfic: Fuck.
I want to write a book called “your character dies in the woods” that details all the pitfalls and dangers of being out on the road & in the wild for people without outdoors/wilderness experience bc I cannot keep reading narratives brush over life threatening conditions like nothing is happening.
I just read a book by one of my favorite authors whose plots are essentially airtight, but the MC was walking on a country road on a cold winter night and she was knocked down and fell into a drainage ditch covered in ice, broke through and got covered in icy mud and water.
Then she had a “miserable” 3 more miles to walk to the inn.
Babes she would not MAKE it to that inn.
Are there any other particularly egregious examples?
This book already exists, sort of! Or at least, it’s a biology textbook but I bought it for writing purposes:
It starts with a chapter about freezing to death, and it is without a doubt the scariest thing I’ve read in years (and I read a lot of horror fiction).
This book can be downloaded for free on Researchgate, posted there by the author himself:
The Biology of Human Survival: Life and Death in Extreme Environments
