DMP episode 8 is out so now I can finally show Cernos off in all his glory. The design process for this one was… interesting. Cernos was originally concepted as a tall, regal man with deer antlers- probably closer to Thranduil from the Hobbit. But then during a chill stream Alex gave Cernos a voice as a joke, and I really liked that voice. But the voice didn’t fit my original concept, so it was time to DESIGN THINGS. So here was the process: “Yes need to make design fit voice, original idea no longer fits. Here’s like, a hot guy with like, horns?? Yes we can all agree he needs to be ripped. Maybe like a big ol deer mask or something? He can’t have a human face he’d be insulted by that. HM.” One game of Tee KO later wherein I did a stupid doodle of Cernos and gave him angry eyes, Alex says to me: “Can we give him floaty goat eyes” “Oh fuck yeah.” One month later: “Ooooh good have you seen a water deer skull? OH WAIT Have you seen the freaky prehistoric deer antlers? AH LET’S ADD SOME MOSS.” “Should he have shoes? No, he would be insulted by shoes the sandals were a mistake no shoes for Cernos.” “Just make him Louis from Beastars no we can’t do that Louis isn’t ripped enough.” And that’s how it happened folks bravo. Anyway the whole point of this scene was to just capture Pure Existential Dread. I knew Alex was going to nail things voice-wise and Jordan nailed the music, so mostly I just hoped the art could add to it. Overall I’m very proud of the results!
