hi!! life has been so hectic & busy lately. it’s kinda crazy. if my delay to reply to this wasn’t enough already. i stopped using tumblr mostly to focus on my studies & such. i also started a substack for talking about music (https://open.substack.com/pub/freqingout?r=6u4a0f&utm_medium=ios) so that i can stay sane & do things that fulfill me internally.

this is actually really hard to answer because he has so many amazing songs i could never possibly rank them. so, in no particular order:

The Upper Peninsula

primarily out of personal connection to the region, i feel my family with my whole heart whenever i hear this song, & even more so i feel their neighbors.

Flint, For the Unemployed & Underpaid

i think the scene he captures here is really potent, something about the way none of the title is mentioned but instead then acting as context for the lyrics is really interesting to me.

To Be Alone With You

Seven Swans in general is painfully beautiful but especially this song. it’s so gut wrenching.

Futile Devices

so intimate & romantic i can’t help but love it

like most songs on Age of Adz the swells & crescendos on this are unbelievable

i mean come on, if you had me pick my number one it would be this every time

i primarily like this one because of how catchy it is if i’m being honest. but generally speaking i just think this one has really good songwriting.

when it came out i loved this song but now i have a — complicated — relationship with it. trying to reclaim the positive energy by putting it on here.

sorry to say, i actually haven’t taken deep enough a look at his electronic/ambient work, primarily because of the length of Convocations. for the other works however i cannot offer much of an explanation lol. though i do love Age of Adz for how it blends his electronic & acoustic styles so seamlessly.
