for the most talented person in this side of the site, i beg for a tutorial on your pretty, perfect coloring ✨❤️
ooh you are being way too kind <3 but I am happy to show my basic coloring process!
below the cut is a tutorial of my basic coloring process. this is how I do my base coloring for all gifs; if I'm doing some color manipulation or other fancy things, I do that after this.
if this is helpful, please like and/or reblog <3 it's nice to know since tutorials take time! and if you try this out you can always tag me using #emilyblr.
if you're having trouble seeing, click on the pictures to see the full image!
i. Curves
I always start with a curves layer and use the eyedropper to select a white point. In this case, I used the white spot circled on the left.
I decided I didn't like the way it looked using that white point - it was too red overall. So I tried a second spot (the reflection in her eyes). I mainly use the white dropper to help with coloring, so even though it's darker, I preferred this base.
I then use the curve to brighten the gif.
FIRST PHOTO: I start with the highlights, usually moving it up slightly.
SECOND PHOTO: I then will add a second point for the midtones, which doesn't usually change the coloring much but anchors the midpoint for when I adjust the shadows.
THIRD PHOTO: I add a third point to adjust the shadows and usually lighten them.
ii. Levels
Next I add a levels layer. I learned this from a pastel coloring tutorial I used 7 or 8 years ago. That tutorial shifted both the middle and right points to the left. I still start with moving the middle to the left and then move the circled one to the left, but I then usually move the middle point back to where it started (or close).
iii. Vibrance
Next is the vibrance layer. I move the vibrance up and it's usually anywhere between 20-80, but it depends on the gif. It mostly falls between 30-50.
iv. Channel Mixer
NOTE: I recommend reading this tutorial by @aubrey-plaza to help you understand the channel mixer tool. I also used this tutorial by @ajusnice to help me figure out my own coloring process.
FIRST PHOTO: I always start with the blue channel and increase both red and green; often, it'll be +8 for both, but it depends on the gif.
SECOND PHOTO: I then go to the green channel and add green to the red, usually +8 as well. Whether or not I add green to the blues depends on the gif, in this case I did +2.
THIRD PHOTO: I don't always add red back in, but in this case I used the red channel to add a small amount (+2) of red to the green.
v. Selective Color
FIRST PHOTO: For my base coloring, I only mess with the black slider. I always start by removing some black from whites (in this case, -8).
SECOND PHOTO: I then move to neutrals and will remove some of the black from there as well. This one is also -8. Lightening the neutral colors does usually lighten the skin tone, so it's important to remember to add color back in so as not to whitewash POC. The final layer adds the color back in to the gif, however with POC, sometimes you will need to add additional layers to make sure you are not whitewashing.
THIRD PHOTO: One of my favorite parts is increasing the black and seeing the contrast. The amount can vary significantly. For this one, I did +19, but I often will go as low as +8 and have also done +100 before, it just depends on the gif.
vi. Hue/Saturation
Starting with the master hue/saturation, I increase saturation as much as I want (often between +8 and +24). I don't touch the hue or lightness.
Now for one of my favorite parts: messing around with individual colors! Which colors I mess with depends on the colors in the gif, but I almost always do reds, yellows, cyans, and blues.
FIRST PHOTO: I start with reds, which is mostly going to affect the skin tone. I often will increase the saturation and the lightness. In this case, I did +19 saturation and +7 lightness.
SECOND PHOTO: There isn't much yellow in this gif, but I did it anyway to show what I often do. It tends to be the reverse of red. I increase lightness more than saturation, so in this case it's +19 lightness and +8 saturation.
THIRD & FOURTH PHOTOS: If I want to manipulate the color, I will mess around with the hue, but I usually just increase the saturation for the different blues in the gif (in this case, cyans +19 and blues +24).
And that's it! Hope this is helpful, feel free to reach out if you have any questions! <3
literally most things that people write off as just ‘textures’ to use in graphics are stolen & unsourced material created by artists or photographers NOT meant to be used as elements in projects without royalty payments. you can say ‘it’s just random tumblr posts they don’t care’ but you wouldn’t want someone to take your work and edit into their work so they can be praised for their beautiful style and creativity even if they just post it on social media w/o profit, would you?? so maybe if you browse pinterest or google images for pictures without finding the original source, you’re using images that you’re not allowed to use without realizing it.
you see it on here a lot especially in (i won’t link anything but i’m sure you know what i mean) those album track ‘aesthetics’ posts, au ‘aesthetic’ posts (you see these less in kpop, but where people use non-royalty free images to kinda craft a visual au), and even just rather typical graphics that have a lot of ‘texture’ elements. and texture packs too!! that’s often where the problem starts; people just collect images (often literal art), compile them in a folder w/o sources, then insist no one can repost those images w/o crediting the person who compiled them. what???
SO may i suggest some of my fave places you can get FREE, ROYALTY-FREE elements that are totally legal to use
creativemarket has 6 free high-quality resources (textures, brushes, fonts, etc), different every week! wow awesome i check it every week
search ‘freebie’ on behance. awesome stuff!!! lots of v nice templates textures and fonts
mockup zone freebies
unsplash: tons of very nice free photographs, not shitty stock photos
pexels: same idea. + they have an adobe plugin so you can get photos without closing your editor damn nice
pixelsquid is a super cool free program (again w a ps plugin that i love) with lottts of super cool hq 3d elements!
as to not make this too long: spoongraphics, lostandtaken (textures galore), pixeden, freebiesbug.
Hey guys! I’m a sort of designer enthusiast/hobbyist and I do my fair share of freelancing, so overtime I’ve accumulated a list as well which I would love to share with you.
Freepik has anything from textures to layered psds, icons and so much more that is actually free to use.
Unsplash is a community of photographers which provides daily content that you can use! You don’t have to credit them but you should. They’re amazing.
Icons8 is basically a library of icons and icon sets, they have a little over 60,000 icons for you to choose from.
The Pattern Library is a very generous project of Julien Renvoye, he’s basically created a library of amazing seamless patterns/textures you can use.

hi ava !! i love all of ur edits so so much and they give me a lot of inspiration! one of the problems i have is fonts though so i was wondering if u have any favorite fonts u could share? thank u !! 💓
I have an absurd number of fonts downloaded—I’m literally like a child that’s been left unattended in the toy aisle at the store, I see any font that’s remotely aesthetically pleasing and I download it before I’ve even fully thought it through—and I love probably a similarly ridiculous number of them, so I’m going to narrow it down to fonts I’ve used in gifsets and also a couple of stragglers I thought were worth including.

as requested by anon , here are some tips i learned about editing ! i hope these can help you in some way or another (o˘◡˘o)
→ about ; the program i use for editing is photoshop, so this will be focused on it + some other general stuff !
→ disclaimer ; this isn’t a step-by-step tutorial of how i personally edit ! my process varies a lot even in different panels of the same edit. these are just tips and things i’ve learned / use very frequently and that i think might be helpful ! ( i also won’t be explaining everything in depth so if you’re curious about something please feel free to ask ! )
→ if you find this useful ; please consider buying me a coffee !
i've had my beloved blog for what feels like forever, but today it turns 13, so in celebration and as a little thank you to all of you for following my nonsense and sticking around, i've decided to share some of my favourite layouts that i've created.
PLEASE credit if you use any of these! either link to this post or the original sets linked below!!! (except of course the sharpening actions!)
HEXAGON LAYOUT - this is my favourite kind of set to make so i hope y'all have as much fun with this as i do. there's two folders of the layout, one is just the reverse of the other depending on how you want your gifs to look, just clip your gifs to each hexagon and watch it all take shape!
[first seen here]
PALETTE MOVIE POSTER - this psd has folders for each element, so the text layers are labelled in a group, and then the palette boxes are grouped together too, just fill each layer clipped to a palette square with your chosen colour!
[first seen here]
LETTERBOXD TEMPLATE - i almost didn't share this one because of the labour of love it was to make, but feel like i'm so proud of it, it deserves to be shared. each movie space is split into a group, and within that there's the folders for the star ratings. you can toggle on/off the heart/review/date (as the ratings change you'll just have to shift over these logos to keep things uniform!) and clip your gif over the shape for the movie poster.
[first seen here]
DIAMOND MULTI GIF LAYOUT - the most simple of all the layouts, but it got a really great reaction so i'm throwing that in here too, again like the hexagons, there's two versions. one being the reverse of the others, just clip your gifs to each shape.
[first seen here]
SHARPEN ACTIONS - VERSION #1 & VERSION #2 - have been asked about sharing these recently so thought i'd add this in, i mostly use version one but occasionally it's too sharp for certain media, so i use version two, which is just the same thing without the last extra sharpening!
hi! the coloring on this eddie and chris set is absolutely gorgeous, and if you don't mind; could you give some tips for how you got rid of that weird yellow filter over the og screen caps? thanks and have a great day 💗
Thank you so much! I figured I'd make a little tutorial, since I know removing yellow filters can be an absolute pain in the ass lol. I don't save my PSDs so I had to redo it from scratch, but I think it looks pretty similar to the original gifset.
I'm going to assume a basic knowledge of gif-making as this tutorial is focused on coloring. (If you'd like to learn how to make gifs, this tutorial is fantastic.)
Let's start with my base gif. There's no coloring here, it's just been cropped, resized, and sharpened.
As you can see, there's an ugly yellow/red filter, and we're going to get rid of that. Any time I'm trying to get rid of a filter like this, I always start with a channel mixer layer. I know channel mixer can be very intimidating, but it's really so useful for color correcting and I use it all the time. (If you're interested in learning more about channel mixer, here is a fantastic tutorial. There's also this comprehensive video tutorial if you learn better that way.)
In order to combat the red, I went to the red channel, and dialed the red back and upped the blue a bit. Then, to counteract the yellow, I went to the blue channel and added a bit of blue in the reds and blues.
Next I want to brighten the whole thing up. To do this I added a curves layer and used the white and black eye droppers. I used the door as the white point and the bag in the lower left corner as the black point.
Now it's still a bit too yellow, so I'm going to add a color balance layer. I just stuck to the midtones and pulled the top slider toward cyan to remove some red, and the bottom slider toward blue to get rid of some of the yellow.
Now you can leave it here, since we've color corrected it, but I added some levels, vibrance, and selective color to my own taste and ended up here:

Here is my 4th, Y2K inspired themed collage kit 💗
What are collage kits?
Basically they are a compilation of backgrounds, textures, stickers, etc. that you can use to create collages (and of course other type of graphics and edits!) I got inspired by the collage kits created by Rookie Mag, an online magazine that unfortunately isn’t active anymore but regularly posted really fun materials for people to use.
You can download the kits either as a complete pack as zip file or each asset individually as png file meaning that you should be able to use them no matter what program or app you’re using to edit. You could even print out the assets and use them to create analog collages.
You can use the assets within the kit as you wish (for both personal and commercial projects) but please do not share them individually or claim them as your own :)
PLEASE tag me if you end up using all or some of the assets from my kits, I’d love to see your creations. You can also use the hashtag #cruellesummerkits I will share all of your beautiful works every month :)
a responsive tumblr about page. features easily customizable sizes and colours. instructions on how to use are throughout the code but please let me know if you need help with anything!

As Google has worked to overtake the internet, its search algorithm has not just gotten worse. It has been designed to prioritize advertisers and popular pages often times excluding pages and content that better matches your search terms
As a writer in need of information for my stories, I find this unacceptable. As a proponent of availability of information so the populace can actually educate itself, it is unforgivable.
Below is a concise list of useful research sites compiled by Edward Clark over on Facebook. I was familiar with some, but not all of these.
⁂
Google is so powerful that it “hides” other search systems from us. We just don’t know the existence of most of them. Meanwhile, there are still a huge number of excellent searchers in the world who specialize in books, science, other smart information. Keep a list of sites you never heard of.
www.refseek.com - Academic Resource Search. More than a billion sources: encyclopedia, monographies, magazines.
www.worldcat.org - a search for the contents of 20 thousand worldwide libraries. Find out where lies the nearest rare book you need.
https://link.springer.com - access to more than 10 million scientific documents: books, articles, research protocols.
www.bioline.org.br is a library of scientific bioscience journals published in developing countries.
http://repec.org - volunteers from 102 countries have collected almost 4 million publications on economics and related science.
www.science.gov is an American state search engine on 2200+ scientific sites. More than 200 million articles are indexed.
www.pdfdrive.com is the largest website for free download of books in PDF format. Claiming over 225 million names.
www.base-search.net is one of the most powerful researches on academic studies texts. More than 100 million scientific documents, 70% of them are free
