ꕤ how many books have you read so far this year?
46 so far, but a couple of them are plays and novellas! hoping to finish one or two more reads before the weekend's over though! my reading thread is here.
ꕤ best book you've read so far this year?
honestly this year has not been my best reading year, but i really loved pachinko by min jin lee, which i read for book club, the paper menagerie & other stories by ken liu which i had on my tbr for years before i finally sat down and read it, and greta & valdin by rebecca k. reilly, which i read last night and i think broke me out of my reading slump (and was recommended by @madisoncounty)!
ꕤ most disappointing book you've read so far?
moderation by elaine castillo; i really liked elaine castillo's how to read now (nonfiction), and was really looking forward to moderation... and i really did not like it. or an arc i read earlier this year, but that feels mean to say.
ꕤ what book was the most surprising?
shy: the alarmingly outspoken memoirs of mary rogers by mary rogers & jesse green!
ꕤ favourite new character you met this year?
recency bias, but i really loved valdin in greta & valdin, so let's say that!
ꕤ most hated character you met this year?
oh brother. there were so many. it has not been a good year </3
ꕤ most beautiful book cover(s)?
i loved this cover of north and south by elizabeth gaskell!
ꕤ a book cover that you would redesign?
so many of them... i don't have photoshop anymore i fear but if i did maybe i'd do a redesign series of my favorite reads this year!
ꕤ most read author this year (or author you enjoyed the most)?
i essentially did a claire keegan readathon after i read small things like these for book club!
ꕤ what book do you want to read most in the next half of the year?
east of eden by john steinbeck, martyr! by kaveh akbar (which i just picked up on friday at the bookstore), among others!
ꕤ overall, are you enjoying this year of books better, worse, or about the same as last year?
probably just about the same, but i think i'm reading fewer books this year actually!
ꕤ do you use any book tracking platforms?
i do! i'm on goodreads, and i should be better about tracking on storygraph, but mostly i just use my own excel sheet.
