When Tomoe gave birth to Kagami, it is implied she still had her vision. There's something so tragic that, as Kagami grew up, Tomoe saw her less and less until she eventually was blind to her own daughter. In the literal and metaphorical sense, this is devastating. No matter what Kagami did, she could never really catch her mother's eye. Tomoe even tells Kagami that she loves her for the pride she brings, implying that this same love doesn't extend to any other parts of Kagami that her mother just chooses to ignore.
I think the only time Kagami ever really held her mother's gaze was when she was born. That one soft, brief moment where she was held in her arms, where Tomoe experienced that instinctive maternal connection, where they were mother and daughter for a single instance.
Tomoe looking down at her daughter, vision clear, while Kagami couldn't even open her own eyes. Its poetic somehow.

Lost helpless mind, obsessed in her kiss, thirsty over so red ambrosia, hungry over warmer eager flesh. Yearning for muffled midnight sonnets. Yearning for an inmortal, ever darkening love~

Why only draw Nathalie wearing a vampire costume, when I can make Nathalie a vampire herself. This definitely wasn't on my agenda when Vampigami came out. But I'm not complaining...

Finals are OVER!!!
And now I can focus on my art! To prepare for Art Fight, I decided to start making some OCs. To get motivated, I decided to once again refer to the council - so, here is Amba Warrier, The Wheel.
Here is a link to my post on the Wheat: Victor Serdtsev
(I'll make a masterpost once I make more council members; speaking of which - who should I work on next?)
Background
Amba = reference to Mahabharata
Warrier = traditionally associated with temple duties, guardianship, and ancient responsibility
Born 1968 in Thrissur, Kerala to a culturally traditional but middle-class Warrier family
Deeply influenced by Hindu philosophy, particularly concepts of Dharma and cosmic order
Extremely bright; excels in academics, especially political theory and law
1984 – Bhopal Gas Tragedy (Age 16):
Their father, a chemical safety officer, was sent to Bhopal as part of an early response team by the Kerala State Disaster Authority
He dies from toxic exposure. Government denies compensation and accountability.
He died not in the initial leak, but days later from exposure while assisting victims
First personal experience with systemic failure. Plants the seed of disillusionment.
Anti-Sikh Riots / Punjab Insurgency:
Later that year...
Studying in Delhi. Their Sikh roommate is burned alive by a mob
Amba is beaten by the mob trying to save her. Police do nothing.
Loses faith in the state’s moral authority and secular values.
Caste Violence:
Working as a legal aid volunteer in Tamil Nadu - 1996
Witnesses the aftermath of the Melavalavu massacre, where elected Dalit leaders were hacked to death by dominant caste men
Saw their bodies piled in a ditch
Legal efforts to prosecute the attackers are sabotaged.
Convinced that law protects caste privilege, not the vulnerable.
1999 - Kargil War:
On a government-sponsored peace tour, trapped in Ladakh with their family (husband, son, and daughter) during surprise shelling
Spends five days hiding in the mountains with terrified, dying villagers
Saw villagers lose limbs to stray mortars
Dug makeshift shelters with their bare hands
Watched Indian and Pakistani soldiers die on both sides
Daughter suffers lasting psychological trauma
Stopped talking for a year
Husband leaves them, unable to cope with the stress of their political life
Although their marriage was arranged, his leaving hit them hard
Sees war as cyclical and senseless; fueled by politics, not justice.
2004 – Indian Ocean Tsunami:
On vacation in Alappuzha, Kerala with their children (ages 6 and 12).
Tsunami strikes - both children die. Amba survives.
State response is chaotic, impersonal.
This loss becomes their psychic break: their grief merged with radical clarity: the world must end so something purer can begin
Recruited by the Council:
2009 - Delivers a scathing speech on failed global systems at a Geneva conference
"The wheel stalls where power sits..."
Approached by the council afterwards
Present-Day:
Now a wealthy, influential politician and reformist figure
Believes in ruthless cosmic justice: systems must fall, the Wheel must turn
Design Notes/Character Study
Based on Amba/Shikhandi from Mahabharata
Genderfluid
Wears a small Wheel of Dharma pendant that belonged to their daughter
Touches it before giving speeches
In their mind, their children live on - not as memories, but as sacrifices for the future they will forge
The spinning wheel has 24 spokes, like the Ashoka Chakra (one hidden in the pic)
Wears white - sign of mourning
Believes suffering is not meaningless - it is ritual fire, cleansing the old world before the next is born
They are a systems-level villain
They don't assassinate people in back alleys
They reshape nations through coordinated collapse, policy manipulation, and ideology-driven warfare
Tools: institutions, chaos, and belief
Doesn't get directly involved in fights - however, will take advantage of extremist groups, chaos, and engineered conflicts to get their way
Bangles that look like wheels
Trimming of the sari has imagery of spokes
Religious powders on the forehead/neck:
Kumkum (Kumkumam/ Sindoor):
Color: Red
Made from: Turmeric that is dried and mixed with lime (or sometimes saffron or vermilion)
Significance: Symbolizes auspiciousness, energy (Shakti), and marital status (especially for women).
Manjal / Haldi (Turmeric Paste)
Color: Yellow
Made from: Ground turmeric root
Significance: Purity, protection, and prosperity. Also used for its antiseptic properties
Bhasmam (Vibhuti/Sacred Ash)
Color: White/grey
Made from: Sacred ash, typically derived from burned herbs used in homa (sacrificial fire).
Significance: Symbolizes renunciation, detachment, and devotion to Lord Shiva
Chandanam (Sandalwood Paste)
Color: Yellowish-beige (usually); can be red sometimes
