bio
Nicholas Spencer was born and raised in New York, where he grew up into a very charismatic, adventurous, and witty young man. His mom never knew that his father was a god, only that he was never going to be in the picture and she’d have to raise him on her own. She cared so much about her son, but worked so hard to support them both, and never kept enough of an eye on him. And for a kid who loved to get into trouble, it was all he needed. Nick never wanted to make things harder on her, but trouble seemed to love him as much as he did it.
He had a sharp head on his shoulders, smart enough to never get caught in something too big, but he never cared too much about looking smart or excelling in school, and treated the streets like a classroom instead. Nick loved going on little excursions and running more free than sticking to a plan, and he found himself staying out way too late, living it up at parties, and finding fun in adventures with friends and flings with anyone who caught his eye.
He’s always been handsome and always knew it, and used it to his advantage any time he could, whether it be sweet-talking authority figures or wooing his various flings. The friends in his closer circle who eventually got to know him learned that it wasn’t really a persona, but that his honest side ran deeper and truer the longer you stayed in his life, and the more loyal he’d become to the people who truly cared for him in return.
It was probably that loyalty (and hidden heroism, he likes to think) that led him to discover his power. On one of those crazy weekend benders sometime at the end of his college years, he and his group of friends got a little too wild and found themselves running from the cops. When they got caught, and he knew one of his friends already had a record and couldn’t afford another slip-up with the law, he tried his best to talk their way out of it. But this cop was an even bigger asshole than he was, and his usual sweet-talk wasn’t going to work. He couldn’t let his friend go down for this, and tried harder, pleading with the cop to quit harassing a bunch of kids let them all go. To his utter surprise, after a weirdly blank look from the officer, he complied, and let them all go. It wasn’t until the police car was gone and they stood dumbfounded on the sidewalk that a killer pain shot its way through his head and Nick slumped to the floor.
He didn’t think too much of it, but he knew it wasn’t because he was drunk— he’d never blacked out before, and he handled his alcohol better than anyone he knew, never once experiencing even a hangover. Maybe it’d just been a weird one-time thing, so he tried to push it out of his mind, but something in him told him to try again. Soon, he found that if he really tried to convince someone— not just bat his lashes and ask with a handsome smile— but actually force them to listen to him, it would work. But he’d always end up either exhausted or with an insane headache, or both.
Nick tried to keep it from his mother for as long as possible, but when he came to visit her apartment one holiday, and the landlord showed up yelling to give her grief for only nearly missing a payment, he acted without thinking, and told him to back off, to never bother her about being on time or late again and to get out of her apartment. Like any other time, the landlord did exactly as he said, and Nick couldn’t hide the way he had to hold his head in pain. Having to explain everything to his mother, he watched her concerned expression, and worried she’d send him to the doctor. Instead, hesitant and wary, she pulled a single card out of her dresser, a note written in his father’s handwriting, leaving a number and address to use if his son ever started showing strange abilities. Nick and his mother decided to trust it, and when they called, Nemean Lion answered the phone, and a whole new world of mythology opened itself up to them. They were told who Nick really was, as well as his father, and his mother told him he had to go and find the rest of the answers to his questions there.
Upon arriving to Nemean Lion, he fell quickly into the swing of things, drinking up everything that seemed to make so much more sense to him there. He was a natural at training and found out he was actually very good at the combat side of things, so he’s been working on that pretty hard ever since and has gotten incredibly skilled. He hasn’t stopped being who he is, and so his reputation around campus soon became known as the cocky and promiscuous boy he is. He’s incredibly outgoing, charming, and personable, and unfortunately he’s not really above breaking hearts if someone’s too innocent to know Nick Spencer only deals in flings. Despite often causing trouble, he’s convinced everyone loves him anyway.
When NL made their big debut and transition into the world’s eye, the role of hero called to him as soon as he heard the word. Nick loves attention and glory as much as he loves the thrill of battle, so he quickly made his way through the track and graduated. On some level, he does of course want to do good, but he mostly just wants the fame of being a talented, dashing, hero and the best way to do that is to be great at his job and make sure people know it.
His power makes him feel like a huge hotshot and a secret weapon on missions, and while it is extremely useful and effective, he’s essentially useless after one or two attempts wielding it. It’ll work, but catch him afterwards lying on the floor with a hot towel and a huge bottle of water, popping a migraine pill. Hotshot suddenly gets pretty whiny and inept once the killer headache and exhaustion sets in, so he sticks to combat on missions until his power is needed, but he absolutely still acts like he’s unbeatable back at campus like the asshole he is. Still, as annoying as he is, he makes sure to do his job, and to make sure the friends he does have are looked after and happy.

connections
Minjeong Park — his absolute best friend. he met Minjeong when she first arrived to NL, and their similar personalities at first caused a bit of a clash before they realized they were actually one of the only people they’d met who understood each other. rightfully so, he’s wrapped around her finger and would go to the ends of the earth for her, and he knows no matter what, his best friend has his back, and he has hers.
Kennedy Xun — he actually met Kenendy once before, before either of them ever showed up to NL, and they had no idea that they were both demigods. it was only one day, and though he won’t admit, he thinks about that day often. they’re meeting again for the first time through Min!
wanted
hero teammates — people who are also graduated heroes and often go on missions with nick; maybe they enjoy the fact that he’s skilled and gets the job done, or truly hate his personality and make fun of how annoying he is after he’s used his power
mentee — any heroes in training who may need some help, maybe even reluctantly because Nick just assumes anyone would be lucky to train with him
friends — if you can get past his initial persona, he really is a ride or die for you, and he loves going on adventures at a moment’s notice. maybe they actually find his personality fun and exciting, and they get along just fine!
antis — its what he deserves. he’s... a lot and he’s known to be a cocky asshole a lot of the time, so it’s totally valid to hate him. also anyone who gets on Minjeong or Kennedy’s bad side then he will absolutely get on their bad side too
ex-flings on good or bad terms — either they slept together and they’re totally chill to remain on each other’s booty call, or they expected more from him and felt like he led them on, or that he was just plain rude when he did not call the next day
anything, i wish i was more creative sdfjvsjnk
find me on discord if u need anything!! i hope to throw out a plotting call soon but i also need to get to my old stuff oopsie dkjnvkj
