Nothing about this is okay. Colton Haynes was not hiding who he was, but chose to be discreet about his identity. He’s confessed that he’s been living with severe anxiety since he was a child, leading to ulcers, panic attacks, fainting, and seizures. He has been put in the hospital over it. 

When he did come out “officially,” he confessed that after being hounded over his identity and his “gay past” that he checked into rehab for his anxiety, and describes how being closeted was exhausting for him while also talking about how judgmental people are about people who are different. 

Celebrities aren’t required to serve as inspiration for people like them at the expense of their own health and safety. People in these positions shouldn’t be guilted or shamed into coming out. Hayne’s situation highlights a major reason why people stay closeted.
