They made me want to learn Spanish because I desperately wanted to understand what they were saying. Sadly, after just three years my favourite duo fell apart and even though I stayed a Barca fan, I was watching less and less football over time. Nevertheless, my journey of studying Spanish and learning about the Spanish culture was just beginning and my interest about Spain was growing.

The possibility of Messi leaving the club in the summer of 2020 was devastating and coincidently I had reached a level of Spanish where for the first time in my life I was able to understand what Messi was saying. And what he was saying was what I never expected to hear. Him leaving FC Barcelona had seemed impossible.

Now, 7 years later, as Messi has left the club I’ve moved to Spain and met my boyfriend here. I now realize that my dream of going to a Barca game and cheering for my favorites is not going to come true, well, at least not exactly as I’d hoped.

Neymar and Messi are playing in the same club again! I still can’t believe it. I now know I’ll see them play together, albeit, for a different club. Will I be learning French this time? Probably not, but never say never, I guess. ^.^
