MORE! PUPPY! POKEMON!!!!
So many people who love generative AI don't have a creative bone in their body and can't imagine anyone actually enjoying the time and effort it takes to write something or draw something.
Stream is over!
Split Fiction is beaten!
We navigated danger with friendly parent bugs, had a big strong cry over grief, finally got to confront our corporate madman, experienced some twisting of the fourth wall, our two besties got their story published, and Mickey and I will continue to insist they are totally girlfriends until we're dragged away.
Speaking of, massive thanks to @captmickey for being the Zoe to my Mio for these streams. Please check out her streams on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, she has just started streaming Breath of the Wild.
As for what's next, I'm not entirely sure yet. A game I really want to stream has an update coming out hopefully in the near future so be on the lookout for that. Until then (or until I find a super short game) we'll head back to the Far Far Ranch and chill out with Slime Rancher on Tuesday. See yinz then!
Okay, for real this time. I think @captmickey and I are close to endgame. Just one more trip through someone's subconscious and hopefully we can finally confront Mr. I WORKED THIS PLAGIARISM MACHINE FOR TWENTY YEARS!!!

🐻 + Kanari
When they're at the end of their life, do they like the life they lived?: I feel like that's kind of a deep question for a fifteen year old. I will say this, before her character development... Kanari was kind of ready to just accept nothing and just let her life go by with no effort.
Their favorite flower, based on its meaning, not looks: I admit I don't think Kanari would really know much about flower meanings but after being told some, she'd probably go for Delphinium which in the Japanese flower language can mean "big hearted," "fun," and/or "ardent attachment." Though honestly purple hyacinth might be more fitting for her.
If they prefer crime shows or medical dramas: Neither really strikes her fancy but she'd probably enjoy crime shows every once and a while. ...Though... at some point they kind of lost their appeal.
If they could keep one wild animal as a pet, which one would they choose?: I kind of imagined a tanuki or even a red panda.
Between werewolves, witches, and vampires, which one would they choose?: Werewolves and I admit it's mostly because I imagine her Halloween costume being one.
Which star constellation is their favorite: Maybe Orion the Hunter? Just because she thinks it sounds cool.
Their favorite song from any musical: As said before, no real world references in the story to fit the latter day Persona games. But: I can't think of anything specific (maybe Sakura might have an idea) but I imagine her enjoying a more energetic song. Or hey, what do you, The Audience, think?
Something that connects them to their best friend (an item):
Spoiler~
If they could choose their zodiac sign, which one would they choose?: Well her birthday is June 28th so that would make her a Cancer. I don't think she'd really care about astrology so I don't think she'd change it if she could. Could imagine her goofing off with pretending her hands are crab claws.
Pancakes or waffles: Pancakes, particularly the huge fluffy soufflé ones that are more like desserts.
I freely admit, I am a sap and I do like the idea of Abstraction potentially be reversible.
BUT: I feel like it shouldn't just be an easy process solved with a dose of power of friendship.
It should be a long difficult process, it should not be a linear healing journey, set backs should be expected, and it can't just be on the person trying to heal the abstracted. After all, you can only recover from something if you actually try. You do not recover by curling up in a ball and say "Nope, not happening, I'll be the same miserable fuck forever" while everyone else does the work for you.
While it's entirely possible that Pomni only reached Jax because she abstracted more recently than the others, she is still in there and I think if there's a possibility of her reversing her abstraction, she needs to put in the effort as well as (if not more than) anyone else who tries to help her.
And if someone does un-abstract, they don't get out with no scars. Mental or physical. It will absolutely still affect them in some way. It'll still be a part of them in some way.
All that said, I absolutely respect the fact that the finale didn't pull a "Power of Friendship heals everything." I love the Power of Friendship but I don't think it would have been satisfying in this case.
I'm fine with the idea of abstraction being irreversible. I don't want to get into arguments with people about this.
I love sappy happy endings... but this should be definitely earned not just computer magic'd.
the amazing digital circus is a show about empathy and what it does to you if you go too long without a support system so the show starts with sympathizing with Pomni (the most empathetic person, easy), ep2 is empathizing with an NPC in a game (no flaws), ep3 is empathizing with a man who has dementia, ep4 is empathizing with someone who annoys you when they're unmasking, ep5 is asking you to empathize with a rich white woman and so on....
so it all works up to the empathy boss - a bush era edgelord millenial trans girl who thinks she's Max from Sam & Max and is inherently unworthy of love
and some people failed the empathy test
All of this and also it's a cautionary tale for those who cannot bring themselves accept help. Pomni (and Ribbit before her) empathized with Jax and tried so hard to help, but Jax refused to take anyone's hand until it was too late – understandably due to her past, but still.
But even if it was too late, it wasn't meaningless. Jax did finally take Pomni's hand and did find a moment of peace before she lost herself. And that was worth something. Someone finally understood her and would remember her for who she really was inside.
It's such a good tragedy because there were so many opportunities for Jax's story to go right but it just couldn't. Jax was so convinced that she was a terrible person that she did some pretty awful things to validate that and it ultimately destroyed her.
But after all that, she was still a human being and still deserved compassion. Empathy may not have been enough on its own to save Jax, but it wasn't meaningless either.
i agree
too many stories fall for the happy ending trap, where the main problem is systematic violence, which can't easily be fixed in real life, but happy ending makes the audience feel like they achieved necessary change without anything in the real world actually improving
as heart-wretching finale as it was, if it was a happy ending neatly tied with a bow it would erase the gravity of transmisogyny and imply that systemic hatred can be solved by just "being nicer," ignoring the institutional and cultural weight the character was crushed under
there's still time for Leeroy and there's still time for YOU
I remember seeing someone make the point of how important it was for us the audience to see and learn about Leeroy despite Jax abstracting/unable to see the slideshow because it showed that Jax's insistence that she was a terrible person who brought nothing but misery to everyone wasn't set in stone.
In the Digital Circus, Jax just further clung onto her isolation and cynicism. But in the real world, Leeroy found a better way. We don't fully know how her journey went after putting on the headset and unintentionally creating Jax but she's obviously now in a better place with a supportive community and in (presumably) a healthier headspace. (And I think there's something to be said about the fact that Jax acted like they were in a world with no consequences while Leeroy did not have that option.)
Jax wasn't destined to be a terrible person who suffered a terrible fate. She could have changed. She could have found a happiness similar to the one Leeroy found. It adds to her tragedy but at the same time there's also a hopeful message in the idea of: "It's never too late to change. You just have to start."
I hope I'm making sense and not shoving my foot in my mouth.
Video: Hey here's a short essay about how these two characters who are complete opposites and antagonize each other are actually very similar due to having similar traumas and how interesting it is how differently they express their trauma and thus makes them great foils to each other.
Commenter: UM, how dare you compare my sweet innocent cinnamon roll who did nothing wrong ever to that MONSTER!
God forbid we recognize that sometimes a good person can have something in common with someone who did bad things and think about what that says about trauma and human behavior and character writing.

Husband and I were talking about TADC and at some point, we joked about Caine somehow paying the power bill for the abandoned C&A building thus keeping the PC/the Circus alive.
This led to me saying:
Okay but now I just imagined after connecting to the internet, Caine ends up unintentionally stealing from some crypto bro's crypto wallet.
He's just: "Wowie! Digital currency, this makes things so much easier :D"
🐰 for Chika?
Their berserk button: Pre-Shakespearesona, she doesn't particularly have a berserk button if only because she's afraid of conflict.
But (minor spoilers) after some character development, she realizes how much others have controlled her life and gets furious about it.
Why their name was chosen: In universe? *Shrugs*
Meta, it was one of three suggested names by my collab partner, @sakuradreamerz. I remember one of them was Junko but I don't recall the other one. But regardless, I just thought Chika sounded cuter.
Their favorite 2020s song: (Note: like other Persona games, we're going with parody names of recent songs/media/etc but for the sake of the question...) Die for You by The Weeknd + Ariana Grande. She'd probably find it beautifully tragic and passionate.
Their biggest fear: Being well and truly alone
One turn-on of theirs: Honesty. It's something you come to appreciate after being surrounded by people kissing up to your because of your parents or getting thrown back-handed compliments (especially from said earlier parents.)
Their go-to sleepover activities: Eating sweets, watching movies, and she'd probably also enjoy getting to play with makeup and hair styling.
What candles they’d get at Bath & Bodyworks: Any with a floral scent
A moment where they reached their breaking point: I suppose her persona awakening would count for this. Along with a moment late in her confidant/social link. ;)
Whether they’re organized or slobby: Organized
Their favorite feature about themselves: If we're talking physical, her hair, she likes to style it and play around with it. Personality wise, her sociability.
those of you who can’t enjoy characters that you’re critical of make me sad. yes that character is a disgusting and horrible person, yes it’s fine to have them as your favorite. it doesn’t automatically mean you condone their actions. you can appreciate a well-done character without it reflecting on your morals

Youtubers who just cover horror content are a godsend because horror is incredibly fascinating for me to analyze but also I’m a baby who hates getting scared
I've gotta help out here, since Wendigoon sucks and you deserve better
Night Mind is good at covering various ARGs and Youtube horror series. Been a fan of Nick Nocturne for a long time now, and definitely recommend his stuff
Lately I've been checking out Nightmare Movies, who tends to cover obscure horror/exploitation movies including a lot of foreign stuff. I've got a couple minor gripes with his presentation (I may post a clip thats accidentally really funny later), but definitely good for branching out and finding something new and creepy
One channel I can't recommend enough is Dead Meat. They have a series called "Kill Count" where they go over every death in a horror movie, and while doing so, go in-depth as to how the effects were done. It's a fantastic channel with a high production value and a lot of very clear adoration for the genre. With over 500 Kill Count episodes, I can't recommend it enough for any horror fan.
