Large parts of St. Marien were destroyed in the bombing in 1942, the interior burned out almost completely. The destroyed medieval bells weren't moved from the spot where they fell and can be viewed in the memorial chapel.

A heart shield bible from World War II. These bibles were often sent to soldiers from their loved ones. They were metal plated and would be kept in the shirt pocket, protecting the heart.
