because wiki organization is overwhelming and hard! I'm starting with characters and stuff I remember better and working back and filling in detail. Feel free to send in stuff you want posted!
Fester Finley: Necromancer. Pretty big guy, very vital despite being a necromancer. He’s a pretty weird dude, because he is willing to spend time around dead bodies etc, but not yearning to be the lord of undeath or anything. Most of his work is theoretical because you can’t just go around robbing graves. he/him
Bewilder Sandbeckett: Master of illusions. Gaunt, slim. Showed a vast illusion of the continent of hieron at the party. he/him.
Garner Havisham: Focuses on movement, transportation, and navigation. Always knows which way is north and is the one you’d call to teleport your group. He/him.
Smolder Cunningham: all fire all the time. she/her
Charter Castille: tbh I’m not sure what her magical specialty is and that’s not my priority to figure out right now
Bolster I forget his last name: killed by charter, came back as a ghost, wrote the book about the liminality of life and death

The city of Velas (which was called The Burg for this arc because they didn’t have a name for it) is suffering from extreme waves crashing on their shores, emanating from the tower on the isle of Eventide. They hire the whole crew (Hadrian, Hella, Fantasmo, Fero, and Lem), with Captain Calhoun to lead the mission with Fantasmo as another leader.
They get love letters - important plot points include Hella failing to take the head of Pirate Captain Brandish, Hadrian introducing the religion of Samothes (which I’ll be discussing elsewhere), and Lem stealing his violin from the archives.
Due to the rough seas, Captain Calhoun says that he can’t get them all the way to the island, but there are two small boats they can use to row ashore. Then follows an unnecessarily long conversation about how to get on the island, leading to a running goof about getting off the boat (mentioned in counter/weight and elsewhere). They land, meet some big birds with people faces, and then get off the beach, finding a little house filled with paintings, books about bread, and the strong smell of nice tobacco.Â
One of the paintings is of a small round dwarf woman (painted well) and a small round dwarf man (painted poorly but with love) and we conclude that they are the owners of the house. A skeleton then comes in and whacks Hadrian with a broom, who then responds by killing him in a single blow. This continues to be contentious for the rest of the show (hadrian killed the nice skeleton man/HE WAS ATTACKING ME is generally how it goes)
They move up to the tower, which Fantasmo can tell based on architectural style was made by automated construction things from The University. It has five floors.
First floor is basically a gathering hall. There’s a large sheet of rock that looks like it might be a door down but they can’t get it open. A dinner bell rings and they head upstairs.
Second floor contains a dining hall bare of furniture with plates filled with broken-up furniture as food. They go into the kitchen, where all of the tools are automatedly cooking without any apparent external control, and have a conversation with a sous-chef hat, who makes them food. Hadrian goes and does his prayers, Fero eats the food made for them. They proceed upstairs.’
Roundabout here is the first instance of Austin mixing up Lem and Fero’s names. This becomes a running issue/goof.Â
Third floor has a library full of animated books taking the form of low-poly people waltzing. Fero joins the dance and immediately angers them. They Do Not Like Noise. After a short fight in which Fero’s the only one in the room, Hadrian parlays with the living books to negotiate passage in return for quiet and all of the books the party has with them.
Fourth Floor has three enemies that they need to fight. Revalo, a masked and armored knight captain with the sun of Samothes on his chest. Hadrian says they serve the same lord. Revalo calls his pals, Calithane (Callie, a 7 foot woman with a war hammer) and Brutus (a man with a crossbow and a bandolier of knives). The crew does a pretty bad job fighting them, but eventually win. Hadrian wanders away to a war room with a strange map. Callie had a strange sigil carved over the flesh of where an eye used to be, and Revalo has the same on his forehead when they remove his mask. Brutus also has one, though it isn’t mentioned where. Before dying, spits out “he lives”. They find a book called “The Canon Of Samot” on his shelf.Â
(Kieth: I told you guys he was serving a different king!
Art: it’s clearly a derivation of the same name!)
After failing a lore check terribly, Lem puts on the mask and, posessed, walks into the war room, where Hadrian fails a lore check on a warm iron crown with a sun emblazoned on it and crowns him: Lem enters the war room and kneels before Hadrian, who places the crown on his head. They have a shared vision. Lem sees a beautiful man standing above him, with boyish good looks, pale skin, bright blue eyes, and the same crown he’s wearing over voluminous wavy shoulder-length blond hair. Behind him, a crowd chants the word Samot. Hadrian sees him kneeling where Lem is. He makes eye contact  with Hadrian and whispers “is it time already”.
They find an armory, and on the armor is not just the sun but a series of symbols: the sun, a ship, a tree, a shield, and an open book with a cup in front of it. The war room has a three-dimensional magical map of the continent (that is slightly different than current maps) with several plumbobs floating on it. One plumbob, light blue, is on the island they are on. Most of the other ones are gray and knocked over, aside from two. One (green) is where there’s the mark of the erasure on the map and the other (light brown) is south of Rosemarrow (the red mark on the map, I believe, though it’s not clear). Lem marks down these places on his map and Fero pockets the plumbobs so no one else knows these spots are important if anyone else comes by.
They move up to the top floor at sunset. The door to the vault that they encounter seems to have been ripped off of its hinges. The vault is filled with gold and gems and riches, but there’s lots of cracks in the wall, rubble on the floor, and no ceiling. This  is clearly a place that important things are kept. On the ground next to a dais raised on some stairs, they notice a very weighty looking tome. It has brass hinges and is encased in good leather, with the same sigil on the front as was on Callie, Revalo, and Brutus. Fantasmo does a detect magic using the sense of hearing and the book and Hella’s sword emit low hums that seem to harmonize with each other.
Fantasmo opens the book with the tip of his staff, and, in opening it, pushes it out of the sunlight. The entire tower emits a sigh of relief - white noise they didn’t notice is now suddenly, noticably, gone. The book is full of runes, and the one on the cover appears repeatedly. Fantasmo spouts lore that this is an automation magic system that repeats itself, like code. It is set to operate something. The rune that we see doesn’t mean “give life” in the necromancy sense, it’s animation, but not under anyone’s control. With enough time, Fantasmo thinks he could probably learn the spell. It becomes clear that the book is supposed to make things serve their purpose; that it’s “bringing things to life to serve their teleological, inbuilt purpose. Knives chop, kitchens cook, waves crash against the shore.” When moved off of the dais, it was disturbed, and because such things don’t do well with change, all went awry. Knocking it out of the sunlight stopped the magical effect. Fantasmo does a detect magic using the sense of hearing and the book and Hella’s sword emit low hums that seem to harmonize with each other. They have a confrontation that boils down to “You have a magical secret you’re not telling us” (Fantasmo) vs “This is just my sword, what the fuck” (Hella)
The party is then faced with what to do with the book.
Fantasmo wants to keep it and learn its secrets.Â
Fero says “everything here sucks, I’m keeping my knives, he can keep his book, let’s just go”
Hadrian: Don’t touch it, destroy it, that book is something evil and wrong and I don’t want it on a boat with me. Fantasmo’s response is that magic is neutral, no more evil than the wind.
Lem wants to put it back on the dais and leave, because that’s the pattern and he’s a semiotician. Fantasmo’s response is that “Your pattern magic, while sometimes impressive, does not dictate how the whole world works.”
Hella’s mad at Fantasmo for treating her like she can’t be trusted, but doesn’t give an opinion about the book.
Fantasmo takes the book. The quest ends with everyone except Fero very angry with him as they return to Velas.
I’m putting this together as a reference for stuff that happens/happened/is happening (I don’t know the proper verb form here) in Heiron! I tried to make a wiki but my brain doesn’t work with that organizational structure.Â
I’m doing it sort of backwards, in that I remember more recent stuff better, but also in terms of what I personally find interesting/useful to have written down. For example, I love religions, so two of my three initial posts are about those. But I’ll get to most things eventually! I have a memory for random details and I will USE IT WELL.
I’m going to be tagging liberally and in a way that I’ve pretty decently thought out, but I’lll also be making a tags page that lists all of the tags I’ve used so you can find things more easily without guessing. When I’ve made that work, I’ll probably post about it. Right now there’s a page, but it says I haven’t tagged anything, so. I’m going to deal with that later.
If you want to send me your random heiron knowledge, please feel free! Â I have a strong preference for short paragraphs and/or bullet points.
Lance Sovereign Thackery: The Hitchcocks’ rival. A floater lance noble, very severe, one of the Hitchcocks cut his nose off in a duel. He had a magical purple shiny coat that shocked people when they tried to attack him while wearing it, and spurs on his boots so you could always hear him coming. Dead now I think (??? need to fact check). “the meanest boy” - Austin
Lance Noble Orchid: The first one we meet is Siege’s rival, who he got his gun from. He’s trigger happy and The Worst, died in the wrapup of the Memoriam College heist. The current one is named Rebecca, a human woman who used to be a Font Man and has an awesome sun laser spear as the font men had. Last seen: in her room wearing a cute peach tuxedo with a little bowler.
Lance Noble Iris: A human man, basically an old beat cop one day from retirement. Likes candy. Has been in Marielda since before it was Marielda. Last seen: in the ballroom making himself a drink, not having chosen formalwear.
Lance Noble Quince: An orc, the only orc the six know in town. His real name is Morket Dal (spelling?), Marquis of valleys, lost letters, and the second cool breeze. Big buff orc man. Looks/is the most sherrif-y of the lance nobles, has a cigar and a cowboy hat. Also, a laser katana. Last seen: knocked out by Castille’s ghost electricity in the train to brunch with Samothes
Lance Noble Chrysanthemum: Austin’s initial notes on her: “Cima from Gundam 0083. Blanche + Candela?” Used to be a tea witch!!! “Does magic shit”. Wears a skirt and a short jacket with the lance noble insignia, rather than a long coat like the rest of them. Ali (and all of us, lbr) on Chrysanthemum: Can I date her? Last seen: knocked out by Castille’s ghost electricity in the train to brunch with Samothes.
Lance Noble Helianthus (Hell’s Parish): Goes back quite a bit with Iris. Used to be a super in a few buildings in Helianthus, one day she found a gun and did the right thing with it. Samothes rewarded her by making her a Lance Noble. Grouchy. Stabbed to death by Maelgwyn under the influence of the Knife Of Ill Intent (not the official name, I don’t think it has one)(I love her and miss her alas we barely knew you)
Lance Noble Violet: Stayed behind to mind the metaphorical farm while the rest of the lance nobles went to have brunch with Samothes.

a note: this is a more cursory summation of all of them. Samothes and Samot will have their own posts as well, as they have been in the narrative more. This is more for how the samtheon operates or whatever. (Pronunciation notes: when I write a, I mean the a sound as in lamb)
Samothes: (sam-uh-theez) King-God. Ingenuiety alive.Created the sun from Iron, made tools that we can work. Not so much about giving knowledge. Lives in a volcano in the city of first light with his cobbin buddy Primo, the Artificer Mundane. Looks like Sendhil Ramamurthy, gray temples and a sharp beard. Symbol is a crown or a crown in a sun/circle/oval depending on era. He/him
Samot: (sam-oht) the boy king. digs wolves. Taught us how to work and how to relax when the work is done. Blond, smirky, referenced as looking like a character from an anime whose name I forget and will find later. Symbol is an open book with a goblet in front. He/him
Samotine/Samontine: (sam-uh-teen/sam-un-teen) Shields us while we work and trade etc. Name changed in Marielda 12 or 13. Looks like Galena: geometric and cut into geometrical shapes. Eyes like sunset opals. On walking into the ballroom: “Each step is heavy with dominance, they own this entire space, it’s overwhelming. No one else here has that power. You also feel safe when you see them.” Symbol is a shield. They/them.Â
(we arguably know the least about Samotine, this is literally all we know and it’s KILLIN ME)
Samanta, once called Severia: (suh-man-tuh/suh-vehr-ee-uh)blows the wind in our sails. Her realm is all living things, but especially wolves. Bald, has fin-like ears, wears a dres with 6 or 7 blues - both it and she move as if under water. When you make a movement in her presence, you feel that she has willed it so. Has Beef With Samot related to the wolves thing, which I’m going to give its own post later. Usually represented as a masthead or as a ship or once, notably, as floaty like in water. In any case, aquatic. She/her.Â
Samol: (sam-ohl)Once, nothingness flinched, and he was born. He gives his body and blood to be worked on, and all things are of him. Looks like a super black David Bowie. Narrator for Marielda arc. Dying (?) and lives in the forest outside of Marielda. Symbol: a tree with both roots and branches free, a circle thing with quarters (need to go back for details from that ice party episode), a tree stump. Let’s go with trees. He/Him
Tristero and his line: (tris-teh-roe) Tristero, the god of death, was formed when nothingness regretted forming Samol and sent him to counteract, but they became good friends (like a farmer and a butcher). Gave up his divinity to save Nacre, making it a deathless place as long as his line is unbroken. A very major part of the Boat/Ghost party arc, and so will be addressed elsewhere. His line is/includes Adelaide, empress of pearls etc, and Calhoun/Angelo/the traitor prince/the abdicator/the lost son/etc
Maelgwyn: (mal-gwin) Son of Samothes and Samot. Confidence embodied. Was a commander of Samothes’s army, then mysteriously disappeared. Found as a ghost type thing in a magical gauntlet in the library of Memoriam College, and then reconstituted himself. Fights crime wearing a mask that makes him look like Samot like some weird batman. People think he’s the second coming of Samothes basically and formed a sect around him called Maelgwyn’s Faithful. He thinks he needs to kill Samothes because of reasons. Played with the Hitchcock’s mom a lot as a kid, which means maybe she has some divine something in her too, but I’m not gonna list her here because that is pure speculation
