Pre-Vampirism Period (1870's-1880's)
Mona was born Mona Vi'Graffi to a family of wealthy merchants in Italy, due to her parents being blood relatives she was very odd looking. She was the most deformed of her sisters, so she was kept mostly secret to the public as to not ruin the family's reputation.
She was taught art and literacy despite the secrecy of her existence, as if she was ugly and dumb she'd be completely useless to the family. They had hopes of marrying her off to get rid of her, but she started acting rather odd after a while and in a manner unfit for a wife.
After attacking a male relative who published her paintings under his name, Mona was sent to a lunatic asylum and diagnosed with mania and hysteria. She began to report a strange man wearing all red and a cloth over his head visiting her at night, but the doctors considered this part of her delusions. Eventually, she caught a mysterious illness and started showing a mysterious loss of blood. Once she died she was buried without a coffin in an unmarked grave, as none of her relatives claimed her corpse.
Post-Vampirism Period (1880's - onward)
Once she got her smelly self out of the ground, she believed she had a very weird nap and decided to try to find the weird guy in red. While she wondered around Italy she spread disease and pestilence with her, as she remains extremely unhygienic. After years of trying to find the man in red she got frustrated and gave up looking, deciding to leave the country. She got onto a random boat, hid in a barrel, and ended up in America.
Once she figured out where she was she decided to start living in caves, abandoned buildings and sewers and took up painting again, as no one knows of her relatives over there.
Bill Comes and Bothers Her (1920's - onward)
Around the end of WWI Mona was horny as per usual and decided to get with returning American troops. With the unfortunate combination of horny and hungry she started feeding off 1 unfortunate bastard repeatedly, Bill Collins. Bill had a wife and child but he was greedy with pussy, so he kept seeing the big moldy woman thinking she's just a freak. Bill caught the mysterious illness and began to withdraw from his wife as to avoid her questions. Upon Bill's supposed death and return Mona was very surprised, as she had never turned anyone else before. Bill was annoyed that he was a vampire rather than the much cooler werewolf, and Mona was annoyed that she's stuck with this guy forever.
Over time Mona and Bill got extremely bored together. They had started a frankly miserable relationship because they didn't know who else would fuck them. They had began to mutilate each other for sexual gratification, as it could be done as much as they wanted instead of only once on a mortal individual. Eventually Mona will leave Bill for a woman, as she had found a woman who heavily resembled a different woman who she had painted back in the 1870's, who she had a very doomed yuri relationship with.
(Wo)Man Car Door Hook Hand (1952)
After Mona accidentally turned Bill she decided to switch to weapons to pierce her victims and drink their blood that way instead of biting them, mainly using things like hooks or needles. This lead to her accidentally being the basis of The Hook urban legend.
One night she was chilling at a dead end street and feeling kinda hungry, she saw 2 teenagers making out in a car and thought jackpot. As she can't enter private residences without permission (including cars) she decided to try to lure out one of them by scratching on the side of the car. The boyfriend left the car to check out what the hell was going on, and was promptly attacked. The girlfriend somehow missed all that so she waited in the car, eventually falling asleep. Hours later she awoke to no boyfriend and a strange tapping noise on the roof of the car. Due to the relationship being in a rough patch she assumed that her boyfriend ditched her and she drove off, leaving her boyfriend's partially eaten corpse to be discovered in the branches of a tree.
Weird Magical Shit Vampires Sometimes Have
We all know vampires can turn into bats, Mona can become a common pipistrelle (which I do not know how to draw, she turned out looking like a flying fox). Additionally, Mona could turn into a fog bank or a fucked up looking cat if she wanted to.
As shown during the 1880's, she can spread disease. She's a vector of transmission of tuberculosis, which would really suck on top of chronic unexplained blood loss.
Mona has some aspect of mind control. She's not especially skilled at it nor does she use it often but she can transfer her own thoughts or simple commands to someone else by staring at them really hard. This takes a lot of mental energy so she doesn't use it frequently, but she has found it useful at times. More frequently, she induces specific emotions into others. She can produce an aura of some variety that can cause people to be inexplicably terrified or extremely calm, she finds this helpful when she wants dinner but is too lazy to hunt, or if she wants to be left alone but hears an urban explorer.
Bill, being a lesser vampire, does not have telepathy. However he can turn into a bat or a wolf, he'll live out his werewolf fantasies no matter what.
The Red Man is an elder vampire who wears a cloth stained red over his face as to hide his shame from god. This design aspect is based on how people eat ortolan birds. He can produce a humming noise within the skulls of certain individuals to disorient them enough to be more inclined to follow his orders.
Mona in this au is based on Mercy Brown, Nosferatu, Carmilla, and the decapitated girl from The Green Ribbon. She wears a wrap on her neck to cover her bite scars, which are the most moldy part of her body.
Bill wears a prosthetic face from WWI, as he was deformed during battle. He was supposed to be missing his whole arm as well but I made a mistake while drawing him so he's missing just his hand for now.
Mona tried to start a bsdm murder sex cult during the rise of cults in the 1970's, but no one had the money for a commune.
Some of vampiric Mona's backstory is inspired by now presumed lost headcanon posts from bloodismymedium created prior to episode 10 about Mona's potential backstory.
There are other vampires in this au, such as the man who collects women who all look identical to each other and keeps them as life-sized dolls or the aids fairy woman who seeks to turn as many people as possible through dirty needles.
Vampirism in this au is somewhat STD coded, this was unintentional but I decided to lean into it somewhat.
