The Samofive/Samtheon and pals
a note: this is a more cursory summation of all of them. Samothes and Samot will have their own posts as well, as they have been in the narrative more. This is more for how the samtheon operates or whatever. (Pronunciation notes: when I write a, I mean the a sound as in lamb)
Samothes: (sam-uh-theez) King-God. Ingenuiety alive.Created the sun from Iron, made tools that we can work. Not so much about giving knowledge. Lives in a volcano in the city of first light with his cobbin buddy Primo, the Artificer Mundane. Looks like Sendhil Ramamurthy, gray temples and a sharp beard. Symbol is a crown or a crown in a sun/circle/oval depending on era. He/him
Samot: (sam-oht) the boy king. digs wolves. Taught us how to work and how to relax when the work is done. Blond, smirky, referenced as looking like a character from an anime whose name I forget and will find later. Symbol is an open book with a goblet in front. He/him
Samotine/Samontine: (sam-uh-teen/sam-un-teen) Shields us while we work and trade etc. Name changed in Marielda 12 or 13. Looks like Galena: geometric and cut into geometrical shapes. Eyes like sunset opals. On walking into the ballroom: “Each step is heavy with dominance, they own this entire space, it’s overwhelming. No one else here has that power. You also feel safe when you see them.” Symbol is a shield. They/them.
(we arguably know the least about Samotine, this is literally all we know and it’s KILLIN ME)
Samanta, once called Severia: (suh-man-tuh/suh-vehr-ee-uh)blows the wind in our sails. Her realm is all living things, but especially wolves. Bald, has fin-like ears, wears a dres with 6 or 7 blues - both it and she move as if under water. When you make a movement in her presence, you feel that she has willed it so. Has Beef With Samot related to the wolves thing, which I’m going to give its own post later. Usually represented as a masthead or as a ship or once, notably, as floaty like in water. In any case, aquatic. She/her.
Samol: (sam-ohl)Once, nothingness flinched, and he was born. He gives his body and blood to be worked on, and all things are of him. Looks like a super black David Bowie. Narrator for Marielda arc. Dying (?) and lives in the forest outside of Marielda. Symbol: a tree with both roots and branches free, a circle thing with quarters (need to go back for details from that ice party episode), a tree stump. Let’s go with trees. He/Him
Tristero and his line: (tris-teh-roe) Tristero, the god of death, was formed when nothingness regretted forming Samol and sent him to counteract, but they became good friends (like a farmer and a butcher). Gave up his divinity to save Nacre, making it a deathless place as long as his line is unbroken. A very major part of the Boat/Ghost party arc, and so will be addressed elsewhere. His line is/includes Adelaide, empress of pearls etc, and Calhoun/Angelo/the traitor prince/the abdicator/the lost son/etc
Maelgwyn: (mal-gwin) Son of Samothes and Samot. Confidence embodied. Was a commander of Samothes’s army, then mysteriously disappeared. Found as a ghost type thing in a magical gauntlet in the library of Memoriam College, and then reconstituted himself. Fights crime wearing a mask that makes him look like Samot like some weird batman. People think he’s the second coming of Samothes basically and formed a sect around him called Maelgwyn’s Faithful. He thinks he needs to kill Samothes because of reasons. Played with the Hitchcock’s mom a lot as a kid, which means maybe she has some divine something in her too, but I’m not gonna list her here because that is pure speculation
