they hate me because the years of memory loss has purified my mind
My old man once said to me, “your thoughts are so random and unconnected. We were just talking about the carnival- how did you get started on wasps?”
So, I told him, “they’re not unconnected- we were talking about going to the carnival, and the carnival is on the same fairgrounds they used to use for the rodeo, and one time at the rodeo my brother spilled sprite on himself and a bee went up his shirt and stung him, and bees die when they sting, but wasps don’t, and I was wondering why, so I asked you.”
And he said, “that makes no sense,” and for the life of me I can’t understand how anyone thinks of anything if not by this exact process
did you know that apparently if you try to act normal the normalness doesn't come through but the acting does. and did you know apparently everyone can smell this on you like a bloodhound
I want to be heard (doesn’t speak) I want to be understood (doesn’t explain) I want to be seen (acts like if a missing person was right in front of everybody)
burnout from not doing anything

i told my therapist that i think im autistic and the first words out of her mouth were "do you think youre autistic? why do you think youre autistic?" she then went on to say that she (the therapist that specializes in OCD treatment) does not think i am autistic and would be able to tell.
this lady who i have known for less than 2 months of my whole entire 23 years of existence, who has no formal training to be diagnosing autism, says im not autistic and i could never be.
i went in there confindent in the fact that i could talk to her just to be shut down in 0.2 seconds flat. so, instead of going home and dropping the whole thing and continuing to suffer in silence, i made a 7 page pdf detailing every autistic or adhd trait i have ever exhibited or still currently do. i then thoroughly explained why these things could not just be glossed over with my ocd diagnosis.
she sent me a referral for testing the next day.
never got an apology though.
autistic behaviors i thought were "normal"
rocking
ripping the tags out of EVERYTHING
eating foods for the texture not taste
watching the same thing over and over
routine
making things even
going mute for short periods
sounds physically hurting my ears
What to do if someone is having a sensory meltdown:
As an autistic person who has regular sensory meltdowns, I've noticed that loved ones and people who are around you at the time are often unsure what to do. Since meltdowns are a common part of the autistic experience and, sadly, they don't always wait until you're alone, I thought I would make a post with a few tips on dos and don'ts if you are around an autistic person who's having a meltdown.
1. The first DO is to ask the autistic person themselves what they would like you to do. The best way to handle a meltdown varies a bit from person to person, so it's best to ask the individual what they would like you to do. Of course, this only works if you are a friend/family member of the autistic person. Make sure to ask when they are not currently having a meltdown, as at that point they won't be able to tell you.
2. DON'T try to talk to the person having the meltdown. Especially don't ask them questions. They probably won't be able to answer you, and it will likely make their overstimulation worse.
3. If in doubt, DON'T touch them. This varies a bit from perdon to person. Some people apreciate firm touch from a trusted person when they are having a meltdown. For others, though, touch can really make their overstimulation worse. So unless you've previously established that the person would want it, stay on the safe side and don't touch them.
4. If you are with a friend/family member and you see that they're heading towards a meltdown, DO get them away from the overstimulation if possible. When someone is on the brink of a meltdown, they often can't think clearly enough to get themselves out of the situation. Guide them to a quieter, less crowded etc area and give them some time to calm down. Sitting quietly and giving them plently of personal space if probably yhe best thing. Just to note (and hopefully this goes without saying), but if you are a stranger you shouldn't do this.
These are all the tips I can think of right now. Does anyone else have something they would add?
the amount of times ive heard "i thought you were a bitch, but youre so nice"

trying to wrap my head around the fact that im neurodivergent is so weird. like wdym i wasnt just lazy and unmotivated my entire life??? i was always told to "just try harder" or "stop being lazy" and so on. just to later find out i am none of those things and my brain literally is not doing what everyone elses is. it is very validating and infuriating.
