Case Study 1: The Mind rider Helmet
It’s a “mind-reading” bike helmet that lets you create so-called mind maps of your travels. Company: Brooklyn-based start-up DuKorp The mind rider helmet was first invented by the company’s chief investigator Arlene Ducao Technology: The helmet includes a soft forehead-based sensor that use electroencephalography ( EEG ) to detect the electrical signal in the rider’s brain, to remove the noise from the EEG signal it also has an ear-based sensor. There is an LED which is visible to wearer on its brim. A mobile app will combine processing the data sent by the helmet’s brain-computer interface circuitry with GPS data then create a mind map. On the map, there are green “sweetspots” showing the place where the rider feel relaxed, and red “hotspots” mean where the rider has to pay attention. The feedback of the LED is real-time during the ride by varying in the green and red spots. User Experience: The idea is that using the mind maps, users can either create new routes that minimize the number of hotspots, or they can simply identify where the hotspots are in order to lessen their stress by being better prepared for them. Additionally, the mind maps of multiple users could be used by city planners to plan more rider-friendly bike routes. Case study 2: Emotive Epoc
Emotiv System’s products are the Emotiv EPOC, a peripheral for gaming on Windows, OS X and Linux, and the Emotiv EEG neuroheadset.The EPOC has 16 electrodes and is meant to work as a computer input device. Company: Emotive Lifesciences - CEO: Tan Le Technology: The Emotive Epoc headset can figure out the user’s minds, feelings and expressions in real time with 14 sensors. This machine use a technique called electroencephalogram (EEG) that can create a graph measurement of brain waves. It also can pick up the electrical fluctuations that create from neutrons firing inside user’s brain.
User Experience: The headset no longer using the wires as in traditional EEG tests, it is completely wireless, the player can be free and move naturally when using the device. Thus, The Emotiv EPOC has made an afford to close the gap between the real world and the virtual world to create a more realistic user experience. There are also opposite perspective from others who claim the whole idea, and even the experience of using it as"unnerving".
Review: The headset has taken human-machine interaction to a new level, changing the landscape of learning and market research. The technology is also making huge medical strides. Cora, a young woman who was involved in a car accident that made her lost communication ability, the headset is helping her to communicate again.
Case study 3: AuxDeco (Forehead Sensory Recognition System)
Company: EyePlusPlus Inc.
Technology: AuxDeco has a small camera which will capture the objects in front of the user into images. Then the photo’s outline is read and converted by the computer of AuxDeco into data. The headband send that data to the forehead. There, 512 installed electrodes recreate the object’s shape via electronic pulses directly onto the user’s forehead. For instance, if an object is round, this device uses electronic sensors to simulate a round shape on the person’s forehead. If there is a street crossing, the device simulates a horizontal line. This way, through their skin, a user can better distinguish shapes and forms.
User Experience: The machine were too heavy, and the electronic pulses were too strong and painful. The scientists of EyePlusPlus Inc. had made many improvements and developed a program that help users to purchase the AuxDeco after training with it for 20 to 30 hours. Now, the AuxDeco is indicated to be convenient ad safe.
Review: There are some social groups offering funds to support the blind individuals to purchase the device.

Neuc project introduction
NeuC project aims for communicating and involving in more and more activities as normal people using neurocommunication. It helps the mute-deaf people talk and hear, and help the blind people communicate like normal people.
Neuc project takes advantage of electroencephalogram (EEG) technology that can detect the electrical signal, a technology that can translate the brain wave data quickly and precisely into audio/image signal and an app which can recognize the signal and then “talk” and “see”.
Take “The neurocommunicator” as an example, it detects a person’s mind by interpreting his brain wave then transmitting it in to audio. This device can help individual patient with the serious physical damage to convey up to 512 different kinds of messages.
AuxDeco is another example which has a small camera in front of the user to help blind people “see”. The camera will capture the objects in front of the user into images. Then the objects’ outline can be read and converted by the computer of AuxDeco into data. Then the user can recognize the object’s shape through the data.
