About the STI anon I sent a few weeks ago. I should have clarified. I thought your post about STIs from cheating partners was more recent than it actually was. But that was what I referring to. It was frustrating to see you downplaying STIs from cheating partners by saying they were highly treatable, when that isn’t the case for everyone, including me.
So, this clarification actually also didn't help me much, because I don't remember the post. I often just put my thoughts into a post and forget about it. I did some searching and I'm going to guess it's this portion from this post I found:
Side note: Also wondering how much the STI concerns are proportionate to the level of risk. Most STIs are easily treatable and won’t impact you more than plenty of illnesses that aren’t sexually transmitted that your partner might pick up at work or on public transit, with testing and treatment. Even when you trust your partner it’s a good idea to get tested every few months. Obviously I don’t know if “C” was super sexually active and whether they were using protection with others and/or your partner, or whether you were, but it sounds like some of your upset is hinged on this vulnerability and learning a bit more about STI transmission might help you feel better!
I stand by this and do not think it was at all minimizing. Most STIs are easily treatable, that does not mean that they all are. There are some, like HIV, which require lifelong treatment, and others which can cause serious damage and take a long time to treat. This doesn't change that most can be quickly and easily treated and don't impact a person's life much.
A partner could get Covid on public transport while not wearing a mask after promising to do so and give it to their partner at home, resulting in permanent damage to their lungs and long Covid. This would be as unintentional as giving them gonorrhoea from cheating, and gonorrhoea is much easier to treat and cure.
There are some severe illnesses that can be spread through sex, but they can also be spread without. People shouldn't be exceptionalizing STIs.
That being said, I am very sorry you became ill, that it wasn't something highly treatable, and particularly that the illness was connected to a break in trust that you suffered.
