Summer: A Poem by a Very Tired Teacher

Summer you are here, and I have missed you.

Let me nap.

Let me read a book written for someone over 8 years old.

Let me use the bathroom at any given moment.

Let me not answer sixty billion questions before 8AM.

Let me not contemplate homicides at the sight of an ill-timed email.

Let me sit in the sunshine without hearing tattles.

Let me bask in being a human being again.

Summer countdown is alive and well! I will miss these babies something fierce.

It’s been a really long time. Like...5 months? It actually doesn’t sound that long? But it’s felt like 5 years.

I’m co-directing our Expanded Day program at school. Next time anyone asks me to basically run an after school program just remind me of how miserable I am right now. I have admitted to a few co-workers that my teaching has definitely not been its best this year. Plus I’ve been volunteered for every possible school-wide team and PD. I’m *tired* and my cup is completely empty. (There’s been lots of positives but I’m whining right now, dang it.)

A positive of this year has been learning to put myself first. I’ve been saying no a lot to unnecessarily strenuous things in the classroom. If it’s not effective or purposeful, I ain’t doing it. This has helped streamline my teaching immensely! Also, I’ve been saying yes to more opportunities. My bestie and I are going to Chicago for the Schitt’s Creek Live show at the end of February! I cannot WAIT. Seeing a new city and making a new memory! Yes please.

I missed you all!! I’m going to be more present on here.

First day and time for sleeps! Definitely lots of stress still happening, but it’s out of my control and I’m officially releasing it!
