When it comes to horror, the first parts of Dracula present a combination of horror of the mundane, and the horror of the supernatural. A weird symbiotic relationship that is effectively used to make our good friend Jonathan Harker break down more, and more as the day pass inside that horrible castle.
It's the slow unravel of Jonathan's mind at the hands of the Count without the help of any traditional vampiric characteristics. Just a man, powerful in both class and wealth, abusing the young man that came to his service until he loses any hope to escape, or live.
But today? The horror is abrupt, unforgiving, and supernatural. A dreadful reminder that Count Dracula is not only capable to torture as a man, but as a monster. That every living being that surrounds the castle is forced to obey his orders, and to aid in any horrible goal he has.
The hypnotism of the Weird Sisters dancing on the moonlight, twisting one of the few things that made Jonathan feel peace. The spectacle of the mother with the wolves, how Dracula led the poor woman to believe that she could find her child, without knowing that she was the main "character" in a horrible play for Jonathan to see, one that she would not leave alive.
And the impersonation. Oh the horrible violation of the Count wearing Jonathan's stolen clothes to go to the human safety that Jonathan wants so badly. The purpose of this action loud, clear, and perfect to cut any kind of possible help that Jonathan could received if he dares to escape.
Not only the Count made "evidence" of Jonathan being in the villages to send his own letters, but also he probably made the villagers think that it's too late for Jonathan. That the young english man is already a creature of the night without any salvation.
I've been feeling particularly feral today so I'm going to go on a rant about the symbolism of the cane in Jekyll and Hyde.
Walking sticks like this during this time period would only have been owned by rich, respectable gentlemen. For this reason, it is symbolic of this idealistic, perfect man that Jekyll wants to be.
Hyde likely has it with him to keep some form of connection to the other part of him. Jekyll is struggling with his identity at this point and is torn between the two. He would choose his original persona if he had to decide (as he is relieved to do when he can no longer go out as Hyde) and wants to make sure he doesn't lose hold of it. The stick is probably his way of ensuring he is tied to it and it remains a part of him.
However, this cane becomes the murder weapon used to kill Carew. The symbol for the upstanding gentleman kills him, an interesting link to how it is Jekyll (if only a part of him) that carries out his murder. This act breaks the cane, just as it breaks that image of who Jekyll wants to be. As much as he tries to be perfect, he isn't. He cannot be good while also being capable of murdering someone for no good reason. This also represents him being taken over by the evil of Hyde and foreshadows the eventual loss of the better part of himself.
I also find it very interesting that the cane is split into two, just as Jekyll himself is. This cane is both a symbol of respectability and a murder weapon. It is broken into two parts. Jekyll is both a respectable gentleman and a murderer. He has two personas. The cane represents the duality within himself and reflects his two natures.
This is probably useless and boring to anyone other than me. I just really enjoy some good symbolism and analysis and very rarely get a chance to go into detail with these things.
The cane was one thing, complete, but once it is broken in two it can never be whole again
One half is carried off by the murderer - Hyde. And the other half (the better half?) is left discarded in the gutter. Hyde is a half a person and can never be whole, now that he's been split off, the rest of him thrown away.
Of course, the half of the cane that he carries away also has to be discarded - it's a murder weapon. No part of it serves him now. He has to give up being Hyde as well.
The cane was a gift from Utterson, given in friendship - destroyed by violence. A cane cut for a large man - it can't support Hyde, not because of any failure of the cane, but because Hyde is too small. And it can't support Jekyll, because it's broken.
So the cane is also friendship, but Hyde can only use friendship as a weapon (see: Lanyon)
And one half of the cane goes off with Hyde, but the other half, the discarded half, comes back to Utterson. But of course Utterson can't mend the cane. He can only keep its secrets.
Ascribing, as he does, to the Heresy of Ca(i)ne
One thing that really sets World Trigger apart from other Jump Shonen( or shonen in general) for me is how it builds character. Instead of giving the characters fancy looks/powers/backstories, WT does it by showing their thoughts and actions in different scenarios.
Given how competitive the shonen environment(especially jump) is I'm not dunking on the other mangas for using tropes to set their characters, because they do need to to catch the audience in a very short period of time. But it makes me really appreciate how WT writes its characters in this subtle yet really grounded way. There's also a lot of cross-character interactions rather than just focusing on the main peeps I really love.
I think Dracula is set in the late 1800's while Japanese Daisho period is like, 1910 or so, so technically I can have a post Dracula-hunt Harkers go on a a business trip to Japan and met Tanjiro and it wouldn't be weird, right?

EATING JELLY BEANS! FOR RESEARCH!
Of course the professor and Ryan would get the dino parents jelly beans, but they won't have any idea what the flavors are. So this would kick of a chain event of them trying all the real fruits and sweet items the jelly beans are inspired from. And extend to other foods as well. They also go to Taco bell someday?
Also I think the rock types may be very different today than prehistoric times (anyone knows rock history?). Imagine Dino dad's delight that there's so many different rocks and humans polish them and make them shiny and make jewelry with them. Imagine Dino Dad meeting the big pile of diamonds.
Update:
I can't believe I'm making a fanfic about dinosaurs getting fruits
World Trigger is a good study of how a shonen with an actual underdog MC would look like, its challenges and how to solve them.
Sometimes the curtain is blue because it represents sadness.
Sometimes the curtain is blue because the author just bought a blue curtain and was thinking about it all the time.
Sometimes the curtain is blue because market research says books with blue curtains sell better.
Sometimes the curtain is blue because the film adaptation made it blue and it just stuck.
Sometimes the curtain is blue because fans headcanon the curtain to be blue and the author goes 'oh sure why not'

Supernatural/spirit hunting AU Gaara where he just puts salt in his sand. Some spirits will get cocky and be like "your physical attacks can't harm me!" only to be impaled. Silver dust probably works too.
Your secret's safe with me (because I will remember nothing)
At this point I'm not surprised at Goncharov being the top trend, but what's the thing with jeans why is it the 7th. Is there a secret Tumblr jeans holiday? Did Tumblr make up jeans?
There's just something really Tumblr about Goncharov trending above a newly released pokemon game and a world famous singer who is recently having a concert.
Update 22/11/23: It's still number 1 and trending above FIFA.

I'd like to think that Bucky is specifically the devil of cooked chicken, because I feel like the devil of chicken the animal would look much worse.
