The leader of the scout group I help out at approached me out of hours while I was walking to work to tell me that people have been talking behind my back because I missed more sessions than I attended this term (on account of having Covid twice) and was like “We all show up when we’re sick because we take responsibility” and I felt really shitty and guilty and cried the whole workday then I got home and told my mum and she was like “So they want you to throw up on the kids? Some people have asked me why I stand my ground concerning covid caution. I'm reminded of the people who asked me why I was so concerned with AI-enhanced cameras on cooler doors in the drug store and people who asked why I thought police brutality against Black Lives Matter protesters was a thing a white person should even be concerned about and people who mocked me for speaking about Obama's private drone campaign and people who belittled me for thinking George W. Bush creating ICE was a prelude to full-blown fascism and the people who ignored me when my tiny-little-child-ass was worried about climate change continuing unchecked and leading to massive global crisis and potentially an extinction event.

I think it's insane that even in the most leftist and "progressive" spaces the idea of equating morality with looks is alive and present and no one fucking bats an eye at it. like racists and mysoginysts are always portrayed as fat and hairy and generally unkept, as a contrast to the morally good and attractive leftists of course; people will have no problem being genuinely fucking awful about someone's appearance if they're deemed to be a "bad person". and the worst part is you point all of this out and people act like you're reading too much into things like no dude you gotta start using your brain more
