What if silence is in fact a sound, but because its a universal sound we just adapted to it and dont notice it anymore
I actually just wrote a paper on this!!
The short of it is, yes, that's exactly what happens. There's no such thing as pure silence outside of a vacuum (and inside a vacuum you'd be dead). So basically your ears are constantly adapting to the noise threshold of your surroundings and slowly ignoring it. If you were in a perfectly silent room (anechoic chambers are cool!) you would actually start to hear the sound of existing!
Isn't there some room full of sound baffling foam or something that absorbs all ambient noise and most people go mad from the isolation because they start to hear things like their own circulatory system and their heartbeat pounding in their ears?
Ah, there it is. Orfield Labratories in Minnesota. They say the longest anyone's been able to stay inside was 45 minutes, as they could hear their lungs expanding and their digestive system working overtime.
A non-writer asked me "but where do you get your ideas" and i genuinely did not know how to explain that it's not a place. it's not a website. it's not a folder. it's that i was on the bus and a woman was holding a paper bag very carefully and something about the way she held it made me need to know what was inside and then i needed to know why she was sad about it and then there was a whole person and then there was a whole story and the bus had already stopped and i missed my stop. that's where.
I made a battle axe out of monster cans

The stereotype of the nerd girl taking her glasses off and suddenly she's beautiful, but in reverse. A cold tough mean office lady who glares at everyone until she gets glasses and suddenly becomes sweet, approachable and friendly since she no longer has a constant headache over not being able to fucking see, doesn't need to squint at everything, and actually remembers individual people by name now that she can tell them apart at all.

Eva Stratt I’m sorry for what you had to do 😔
How do you math (example problem: 8+ 6)
* 8+2= 10, 4 is left over, 14
* 8+8= 16, -2= 14
* I just have it memorized
* some other way
* see results

Hamlet adaptation where Hamlet is a vlogger and all his soliloquies are breakdowns he uploads to YouTube
… I am unironically here for this
this is the funniest thing I’ve ever seen in my life
This is - legitimately - my favourite delivery of Shakespeare I have EVER seen (and I have seen some good-ass productions yo, in the Globe Theatre itself even). Like seriously, even though the words are unchanged, he’s stripped away ALL of the archaic pretense and assumed grandeur of ~presenting the bard~ that makes even the most wildly talented of actors and innovative of productions inherently inaccessible to a modern audience. Like, they’re still great, they can still communicate the message and (some) of the nuance, but they’re still always a step removed from being identifiable to any viewer’s lived experience. They’re still always reciting 15th century poetry. But this guy? This guy is like, screw iambic pentameter, to hell with being precious about the material, HOW WOULD AN ACTUAL PERSON SAY THIS SHIT?
Like this. And it’s beautiful. It’s beautiful to hear a soliloquy I loved so much already, and have it come to life in a way it never, ever, did before. I feel like I grasp his motivations, his twists and turns, no longer on an academic level but on a visceral, instinctive one. Because he’s presenting his mental and emotional journey in a way that speaks honestly, like a real person.
So yeah, this shit post? I love it. Deeply and sincerely.
A post about this went round recently, and I’m delighted to announce she’s since come out as trans and goes by Jasmine 🏳️⚧️
Actor and Writer
There’s a whole series of the Hamlet videos on her YouTube, as well as a bunch of other films she’s made

Hearing about Book Drama wherein somebody's publisher or whoever pushes to market their book as romantasy because it's #marketable and then romantasy readers read it expecting it to be romantasy and are understandably shocked and confused when it's Not. On like a semi regular basis. And I'm starting to thuink maybe we should aim for people who would "actually want to read it" instead of "demographic that makes the most money for the publisher"
Now, the "falsely advertised not-romantasy book" in question typically also has Other Problems making people Hate It. But. Yknow. Maybe the false advertising set it up for a Not So Good reception. I think we need to start hunting publishers for sport. This is not to say I am fond of Authors. Frankly the written word is of the devil
New question: would it be funny if I started lying about my own work being romantasy. It is sff and technically involves relationships between characters. Scaring the hoes would almost certainly be detrimental to, like, everything. But it might be funny to call it that. Like saying Alien (1979) was a romcom
Read my sci-fi horror """romantasy""" short story They Colonized Mars in which nothing bad happens (sic)
[ID: a screenshot of the itch.io page for They Colonized Mars. The blurb has been edited to read "His name is Atlas, and he is OK (thumbs up emoji)". The description "A Martian warehouse worker takes his surveillance bot out for drinks" is unchanged. /end ID]
@little-tiny-raccoon-hands and I have been lying about Rabbit Heart being a "cozy fantasy" and it certainly hasn't hurt our numbers. genre deception is okay when it's funny.
Everyone says @derinthescarletpescatarian 's writings are normal and maybe contain new adults, so it has to be true. Copy|Paste especially should be New Adult (a genre that apparently exists).
Good point! Copy|Paste contains so many new adults!
its fucked up but the only emotion possible is jealousy
