*banging my fists against the wall* talia al ghul is a young woman born into a world of violence and control who from her character conception was marked by immense compassion and love she was young and free when she fell in love with bruce and over the years has grown more jaded and complex and has struggled with her loyalties towards her difficult father and her difficult lover and has to struggle with what it means to be a mother but she remains at her core a woman burdened by the weight of her own love *slams my body against the walls* please she’s not just some mindless dragon lady character she’s funny and kind and clever and manipulative she adores her son she loves her father even though she betrays him constantly and ra’s always forgives her and she loves bruce even though she can never give herself fully to him and he understands that. she has interests outside of her relationships. please god can anyone hear me in this box its been so dark down here
Talia is such a fascinating character because i do genuinely think in a way we've all met a Talia before—
Whether it's a friend, a cousin, or a glimpse of your own face in the mirror, we've all known someone that holds the kind of filial piety that is heartbreaking, raw, tender & poisonous.
That person that loves their parent/s more than anything & will stick around for them, despite the hurt it causes, in hopes that something will change, something will give, or just simply because "they're family" & there's nothing else more to their wants.
I, for one, love my parents in much the same way.
Despite all their flaws & the objectively bad takes they have, despite how they carve out my heart on a daily basis with their ideas on things both important, & some not. The constant work it takes to keep them from the pitfalls of conspiracy & hate is sisyphean, but i love them.
I love them like air, but the air is polluted & hazardous, & i feel like the only tree for miles & miles.
So, in much the same lane, i see & understand Talia.
I also understand why she'd send Damian away from all that — because Talia IS a deeply loving & devoted person who loves so deeply that she willingly sacrifices her own heart, her kindness, her love, & her entire life — because she loves her son enough to assure he doesn't grow up to be her.
HOWEVER, that far from dissolves her from the many crimes committed & the manipulations made! It's just a factor of her that makes her character more endearing, in a way, than the weird ahh racist depiction of 'evil arab assassin lady' some writers went with to avoid any nuance or subtext or compelling character study.
I personally love to see the many shades of Talia that you'll come to find within the fandom— Those who pull from comics new & old, it's just genuinely cool to see!
ESPECIALLY when her relationship with Damian, Bruce, &/or her Father is written with the complexities of love & how far one will burn themselves just to feel warm.

i am a full fucking supporter of the ‘batman should kill the joker’ agenda. i will say that with my full chest. i love the idea of that clown fucking dying. however i DO have to point out how insanely hysterical and unreasonable it is for people, including his kids, to get mad at him for refusing to kill that guy.
like think about that for a sec. he said no to murder and they’re mad at him for it. batman is quite literally just a guy. a volunteer. the emo version of the neighbourhood watch. he has no legal power, he’s just good enough at not getting arrested and is lucky enough to live in a city like gotham where everyone else is just as insane as he is and are fully willing to let him do his thing.
like, imagine if you decided to start volunteering at a soup kitchen, when a guy starts showing up and routinely fucking with everybody by throwing the soup around and burning other guests. and you keep kicking him out and calling the police on him because what the fuck man, you’re trying to serve people soup here! but he keeps getting away from the cops and coming back, and then one day one of the other volunteers comes up to you holding a gun and goes ‘take him out, bruce.’ and you’re like. what. no. what the fuck do you mean i’m just serving soup i cant kill a guy. and then everybody gets mad at you for not shooting him in the face.
like do you understand how insane that is. it’s so fucking funny. let bruce live.
