you're like an angel !

“I don’t think anyone enjoys being soaked to their core, so that’s understandable. Eating with them just kinda…. helps calm them, y’know? Anxiety is a funny thing when you’re alone in a crowded place.” Vic never thought of what he did as anything other than common decency, but he also could tap into their feelings while others couldn’t. If anything, he would feel selfish to ignore them. “Yeah, some of them named by us, some of them named when they came in,” he replied, pointing back at the small white kitten he had been with, “Everyone else calls her Snowball. I call her Snow.”

“It’s really not enjoyable — but I don’t know anyone that loves water that much.” Natalia admits as she hasn’t gone swimming herself since she was eleven years old — before the wings had started growing in. Her eyes look at the animal, a small kitten. “Snow is a really cute name. I think it’s nice eating alone isn’t ever fun — always better to have a buddy. Especially if there’s a lot of people around.”

“Hey, I already told you, not my food,” Vic’s voice was in a hushed tone, his words aimed toward the nearby cat that was attempting to eat the trail mix from his bag, until the boy scooted himself a few inches away. Often times when volunteering at the Animal Rescue League, he would have his meal with the animals during their own feeding time. “The deal was, I eat with you, but you eat your food and I eat mine.” With his ability to sense the emotion of animals, Vic often found that some of the shelter animals were anxious to be alone while eating - which sparked the idea to eat together, that hadn’t failed him in decreasing their anxiety yet. A lot of his methods definitely weren’t normal or expected, however, they were successful due to the connections he was able to create. Hearing footsteps from behind, Vic quickly stood, turning to face the opening of the area. “Oh, uh, can I help with something? Was just… feeding the lil one.” 

Natalia felt bad interrupting, but she smiles as she watches all of them eating together. “It’s sweet that you join them. I bet they like the company.” She answers as she keeps her wings folded against her back. “I was in the area so thought I’d stop by. It’s raining out and I don’t like being wet — weighs my wings down. I guess I have something in common with the cats. Do they have names?”

apparently one of zoe’s teachers felt that they needed THERAPY. therapy ! of all things ! sure , they were abducted as a child. lowkey brainwashed and had their powers suppressed for years. skipped from foster home to foster home before being adopted by bucky barnes. got settled into their new home only for their “ mother “ to track them down and try and bring them home. mother nearly killed their adopted sister… found out years later who their biological parents are… there’s no reason why zoe would need therapy , right ? they coped by burying themselves in sports , music & art. in their mind , they coped just fine. they wouldn’t admit it but they were really conflicted about their birth parents and what they wanted out of those relationships. they ALREADY had a family in the rogers-barnes family and they were more than enough. but maybe they wanted more. wanted to know these people that they should have been grown up with. 

zoe sat in the waiting room in the school therapy offices , long legs stretched across chairs as they levitated a book above their face so they could read it without any effort put in. sunglasses covering their eyes , a CLEAR SIGN to not disrupt them. “ i’m. reading. and. concentrating , “ they said as they felt a presence. they really didn’t want to drop the book on their face. surprisingly , levitating was one of the things that really struggled with. they could shapeshift without even having to think about it - it was that natural for them. “ what do you want ? “ they couldn’t remember doing anything relatively BAD recently. 

“Oh — I don’t mean to bother you.” Natalia says as she moves around the room, careful about where her wings were brushing against things. It was so easy for her to knock something over — but she was too early for her own session with the therapist. She didn’t want to be here, but it was the first step forward in moving on from the issues she has surrounding her mother. 

“I don’t think they realize they’re a part of our bodies. I’d rather people just mind their own business, we’re not circus attractions.” It was hard enough for him to come to terms with the wings, not to mention the attention he gets now. “I hope so.”

“They probably think it’s some sort of costume which is rude in itself, but they could at least ASK before touching them. It’s such a weird feeling.” Natalia makes a face at that now that she thinks about it. 

❛  so i was pulling out of my parking spot earlier today ,  and was stopped out of nowhere by a cop . said i was driving recklessly or something . ❜ portia shook her head , taking a sip from her drink .  ❛  i’m starting to think he just has a problem with woman . especially ones behind the wheel . ❜

“Really? Wow, that’s awful. I’m sorry you had to go through that.” Natalia admits as she frowns, lifting her drink up to her own lips to take a sip out of the coffee drink. “What happened next?” She asks curiously wanting to hear more about the story. 

Morgan laid in the quad, arms and legs spread out. Sitting up as she did so, she said, “As lovely as winter can be,” Truthfully, she hated winter. Cold winter and snow had never been much of her thing, and her wardrobe clashed with both. “I have missed just how great the sun is.” She said. 

“Summer’s just around the corner. I’m looking forward to spending all my days by the pool eating snowcones.”

“We shouldn’t have to deal with it, I would love for people to stop tugging on my wings like they don’t realize how much hurts when they do. Luckily, I’m going to school for this sort of thing.” 

“We deserve better treatment than that. I don’t like the stares, but even that’s better than people touching them without our permission — you know?” Natalia says with a sigh. “You’re going to be great.”

Isaac looked over at Nat and sighed in relief. “Could be worse.” He muttered in response, walking over to them. Instead of looking at her and betraying how he really felt, he gently played with James and let him hold his finger.

“You’re right. It could always be worse, we shouldn’t have to put up with that treatment.” Nat says, but smiles as James holds onto Isaac’s finger, refusing to let go now.

“Seriously, they’re not toys, they’re attached to me.” Isaac huffed, rolling his shoulders back to ease the discomfort the best he could. “I don’t care how cool you think they look.”

When the people walk away in a huff, Natalia takes a glance at his wings before looking back at him. James strapped to her chest, giggling. “Are you okay?”

“Yes!” Rohen jumped up and yelled in excitement, something rather unbecoming of him. “I submitted a seventy-five page thesis and didn’t break down more than twice!” He burst to tell the nearest person.

“Congratulations! Seventy-five pages is an achievement to be proud of. Now you can relax a little more, right?” Nat asks after clapping briefly as the other yells in excitement. 

Mars stood behind the counter, already drawing on lids of the coffee cups that would be served throughout the day. Any barista working there was known for doodling on the cups, but he was more specifically known for his astronomy doodling, which isn’t surprising for anyone who had a conversation with him longer than two minutes. Taking in the fresh aroma of the flowers, his fingers continued working around the lid – there was already a galaxy inked. Hearing the door open, his attention peaked. “Welcome to Seventeenth, what can I get started for you?”

Natalia walks into the coffee shop, sliding through the doorway carefully with the wings poking through the back of her faux leather jacket. She was glad they were still open because she barely slept last night with James waking up so much. They didn’t have much coffee at home they were out so this was the best alternative. “Oh, hi! I’ll take a mocha latte with an extra shot of espresso in it please.”

“You got anything better to do than stare at the newbie?” They growl contemptuously.

Switchblades were really good for doing simple knife movements and distracting James from anything he was either too bored to care about or when he just simply wanted to ignore something. Honestly, he could probably do something less hostile looking like ride his bike instead, but he’s not always in a position to ride away if he wants too. He doesn’t do much outside of the basic simple opening and closing the blade in quick movements. He senses someone coming, reflexes and all keep him from getting startled and what not and quickly shoves the knife away having one too many experiences where people have confiscated them from him. And it bothers him, makes him anxious when they do. He’s also more than ready to, and rather bashfully defend himself against the question of the said knife which causes him to blurt out, “Switchblade? What switchblade? I don’t have one.” Not a complete lie, he has three on him currently.

Natalia has been turning around the corner with a notebook on her arms with one of her textbooks underneath it. She had finished doing some studying,  it stops when she runs into someone on the way. They say something when their eyes meet, and she raises an eyebrow. Her feathered wings flapping slightly to stretch a boy. “Okay? I wouldn’t have a problem if you did have one. Just as you don’t try and stab me. 

the bow he gives at her claps is more silly than anything, still just having a good time. at her words, he shrugs, waving his hands between them as he swallows his bite. “oh, you know. bit of this,” a gust of air travels between them, illustrating his powers. “bit of that. practice makes perfect!” he’s smiling at her, reaching for another piece to give her. “here, i’ll help. toss it up and i’ll bring it down.” 

Aki’s never really given children much thought. He’s never spent much time around children, or babies, and he definitely hasn’t considered a family of his own just yet. But.. seeing how happy Natalia is with her son, and how cute the baby really is - it’s something else.  “Thanks, Nat. And - if you ever need a babysitter, let me know? I’d be happy to look after him for you whenever you need a break.”

“Yeah that’s a pretty safe bet,” He tossed some trash into the bin carelessly “But the real question is who? And also why,” Quentin pondered it, there were plenty of people out there who’d make trouble for a school full of superheroes so the problem in figuring it out wasn’t a lack of suspects, there were just way too many.
