Where: Port Caroll.
Who: Open Starter.
Did no one really notice anything suspicious? Some creepy guy who was watching your every move, or the girl who smiled too sweetly and whose good morning sounded like she was saying, Iām going to stab you in the neck ? Either Natalie had too much experience with people who had committed any crime, or her previous job had led her to see everyone as a potential murderer. Or both. It doesn't matter. Either way, a woman was murdered, her bones scattered under everyone's noses, and the only one who noticed was a dog who decided to feast on a forearm and hand bone, which could prove crucial to the case.
"Does anyone know a brown dog, mid-thigh height, who likes to take what doesn't belong to him?" she asked over the air, wanting to help in some way. Until the FBI asked her, Natalie was dormant, writing notes for her new book. But the truth was, the police and the feds would soon be knocking on her door, asking her to lead the investigation again.
Elby had only arrived in Carroll a little over a month ago. She had made a couple of friends, learned the town enough to navigate freely, and yet, there was always something to surprise her.
Glancing to the sides, she made sure that the question was addressed to her. Even though "No, I'm sorry" would have been the easiest answer, Elby chose to add some humor.
"I don't know, sounds a lot like my ex," she admitted jokingly. Then again, it's nothing special, it sounds like men in general, she thought. "If you're looking for an actual dog's owner though... No, I don't know anyone with a pet like that, sorry."
Natalie looked at the woman who had answered her and, although she was trying very hard to remain professional, she let out a short laugh. "My ex also fits that description perfectly, but let's not insult dogs," she added, still unable to contain the smile that kept appearing on her face. She approached the girl and shrugged as if all hope of finding the thieving dog had vanished. "The dog didn't have a collar, so he's probably a stray. The only other thing I remember is a white tie around his neck and one floppy ear." She raised an eyebrow as if hope had been reborn within her, and spread her arms, losing it again. "No one knows the dog, yet he took human bones that could be key to the case."
