The Girl in the Red Velvet Swing (1955) | Dir. Richard Fleischer
men will do literally anything other than engaging in pro-social community-oriented behavior and then get online and complain about how masculinity is vilified and men aren't allowed to be heroes anymore
"all men really want is to feel like the hero" okay then volunteer at a food bank. get narcan training. step in when a woman is being harassed on the street. help out an elderly neighbor with shopping or home repairs. learn how to safely de-escalate fights. help your friends move. join or start your workplace union. become a big brother or volunteer coach for kids' sports. clean up your local park or get involved in some local conservation campaign. do your own damn dishes. notice what needs to be done and then do it. the world doesn't need heroes, it needs helpers. there are literally so many paths to finding a sense of self-respect and worth through pro-social behaviors that improve your immediate local community and help build your network of close personal connections. but these guys don't give a shit about actually contributing anything to the world. they just want to whine and fantasize.
their inherent lack of self-respect is belied not only by the fact that they can't imagine doing anything that contributes to building a better, more resilient society, but how they can't imagine that doing so might involve a lot of small acts and choices and not one big act of heroism that gets them on the news as Big Man Of The Year.

China nor it's history have ever been completely religiously ruled or solely socially defined by Confucianism as a culturally produced religion. Daoism and Buddhism are just as importantly definitive to the area you're referring to as China.
Well of course it’s wasn’t “socially defined by Confucianism as a culturally produced religion” Confucianism isn’t a religion but it’s not accurate that the government system isn’t defined by Confucianist ideology. The concept of face, the exam systems, emphasis on the family unit and social harmony are all imbedded into Chinese political systems. You can be obtuse about the variety of religions and cultures within the landmass of China but in terms of the dominant objectively one party political system that rules the area…it’s bedrock is Confucianism. Also Buddhism came from India and daoism is deeply interwoven w Confucianism/came up at the same time …
as a born & raised chinese person i can tell you DUH 100% confucianism is the most dominant force of our culture, perpetuating thru history, politics, anthropology and EVERYTHING.
DO NOT underestimate the influence of civic religion.
the first poem as a kid we are mandatory to recite is: 人之初,性本善,性相近,习相远 (in the beginning, human nature is inherently good. planted in the same nature, we grow apart through nurture) which is a confucian classic. and that shows how it is the foundation of our beliefs as that’s one of the first things you have to learn.
this might be slightly off topic. recently from travelling to greece i believe as countries so old & rich in philosophy, we don’t necessarily need a religion to unite people together. not to be snobbish / patriotic. religion: especially the ones that are extremely strict and praise one god, are more likely to be a means of manipulation (colonization for example) the influence of confucianism is like greek mythology. greece is also one of the oldest civilizations, yet it is not a highly religious place in the traditional sense. greek people believe in greek mythology and apply it to their daily life. It is also an extremely comprehensive and fascinating civic religion. i believe we should believe in philosophies that guide us spiritually and positively & still leave freedom of choice & force the internal contemplation, which make us more human than just asking you to obey (respect to religious believers, this is coming from an atheist + buddhist influenced pov)
also taoism is complimentary with confucianism. buddhism is also highly overlapping with confucianism. they all echo & align at core. not contradictory

These human tracks, found in White Sands National Park, New Mexico, are the oldest ever recorded on the continent. Previously believed to be between 11,500 and 13,000 years old, new analysis reveals they date back 23,000 years. This discovery indicates that humans inhabited North America at least 10,000 years earlier than previously thought, possibly even earlier, around the end of the last ice age over 32,000 years ago.
