I think that one of my biggest regrets in college so far is not having taken full advantage of everything my teaching hospital has to offer.
I have the privilege of studying at an amazing medical school with a renowned teaching hospital and I don't think I've made most of my time there so far. I still have two and a half years left to make up for it, but I'm afraid that I'll be more busy from now on, and that it won't be the same as if I had started doing it earlier.
Anyway, I think that being upset about it won't make me go back in time. So instead of getting sad, I should just do my best to make up for lost time.
Just finished my Gastroenterology rotation and it was okay. Not as interesting as Nephrology or Rheumatology, but still nice.
I really liked watching procedures like colonoscopies, endoscopic ultrasounds and endoscopies.
My favorite part was definitely learning how to perform a paracentesis! It was incredible, a great opportunity and the nurse was so kind and patient with us. He made us feel safe and made sure that we understood that we're still students and we're learning. It's okay not to know how to do something, we don't need to feel bad about it. They are there to teach us, not to judge us. And even if someone does jugde us, we shouldn't let it get to us. We should just keep learning and working to improve. It was a great afternoon. I learned a lot! I hope to go back there someday and get more practice. He made it clear that the doors are always open for us.
I also had the opportunity to see patients alongside a friend in two different occasions and it was so nice! The patients were so kind and patient with us and they even complimented us! It was really encouraging.
The worst part for sure was shadowing a resident whose condut I really disliked. The man was on his phone all the time, doing useless things like shopping! In front of the patient!! The pacient was talking to him and he was doomscrolling on his phone!!! It was terrible, a good lesson in what not to do.
An exam with 30 open-ended questions covering 3 completely different subjects, each with an absurd amount of content is inhumane. How can they do this to me I'm such a nice person. This is literally torture. They are legalizing torture now
I have a course this semester called Clinical Specialties I which covers Rheumatology, Gastroenterology and Nephrology. It's been really interesting so far because Rheumatology and Nephrology are two of my main specialty choices, so going to the clinic and shadowing residents has been a delight.
So far, I've been thinking that Nephrology is difficult but really cool and Rheumatology is super interesting but complex.
I'll start attending Gastroenterology clinic next week, so far I've only had the theoretical classes, but I'm finding them extremely boring lol. I'm glad there are people who enjoy it and chose it as a specialty because I could never.

Study Strategies
For everyone asking "What does 'playing' with the material even mean when it comes to studying??"
Well, basically when you think about the material in a way that applies to your real life or interests, or that entertains you.
Writing a tumblr post about it (my blog started out as a study tool when I was in nursing school, because I re-wrote what I was learning in fandom/fic terms)
Talking about it or explaining it to a friend that is NOT in your field of study
Trapping your blorbos in a weird situation they can only get out of by learning the material (I once went through a whole scenario in my head about my blorbo getting injected with insulin and his friend having to figure out how long they had to give him sugar before they died to learn insulin onset-peak-duration)
Flash card "war" where 2 or more of your friends bring their flashcards and every time you or a friend puts down a card, the one that gets the answer the closest first wins the cards (google allowed)
Make a comedy routine about the material using only jokes that would be funny if someone understood it
Order a list of facts from least to most interesting- bonus points if you do it with a friend and you both have to agree, bringing your own arguments to the table as to why a particular fact deserves a certain rank
Finding an old textbook on the material at your school's library and figuring out what still holds up to today's knowledge
Find a group of people on the internet that are really interested in what you're studying and get the latest in DiscourseTM
Make the most misleading fact sheet you can make on the subject, with everything you say being technically true
Make a fact sheet that holds up to the reading comprehension of tumblr dot com
Basically anything that reframes studying from "I hate this and it takes up so much time" to "something I was probably going to do anyway for fun, but this time with more [subject]".

40 Tips For Becoming More Disciplined 📌💡🚀📝
Know what you want to achieve soon and in the future. This helps you know where to go and stay motivated.
Do the most important things first to save time and energy.
Have a daily plan that includes work, rest, exercise, and learning.
Make big tasks smaller so they're not scary, and you can see progress.
Use methods like the Pomodoro Technique (working for a while, then resting) or blocking time to get more done.
Notice when you're avoiding work and make yourself start.
Control yourself from getting distracted or doing things just for fun.
Say no politely when you can't do more things without getting stressed.
Stay healthy by eating well, exercising, and sleeping enough.
Keep learning by reading, taking classes, or trying new things.
Check how you're doing with your goals and change plans if needed.
Tell a friend or mentor your goals so they can help you stay on track.
Keep your spaces tidy to help you focus better.
Learning discipline takes time, and it's okay if things don't go perfectly.
Think good thoughts about yourself instead of bad ones.
Imagine doing well to get motivated.
Mistakes are chances to learn, not reasons to give up.
Be happy about even small successes to stay positive.
Listen to advice from others to get better.
Be ready to change your plans but keep your main goals.
Try mindfulness to concentrate, be calm, and know yourself better.
Write about your progress and plans in a journal.
Turn off things like social media when you work or study.
Think about things you're thankful for to stay happy.
Do quick tasks right away instead of waiting.
Spend time with people who help you and make you want to be better.
Let others do tasks that you don't need to do, so you can focus.
Get better at handling problems without giving up.
Picture doing well to stay motivated.
Drink water to think clearly and stay healthy.
Have a special place to work or study to help you focus.
Wait for bigger rewards instead of quick ones.
Keep things simple, both around you and in your mind, so you can concentrate.
Listen to advice without feeling bad about yourself.
Use apps and tools to manage your tasks and time.
Reading helps you learn and think better.
Decide what's good enough for you and stick to it.
Believe you can get smarter and better with practice.
Do creative things to stay imaginative and interested.
Listen carefully to others to be better at talking and understanding.

7 Reasons you might be procrastinating and how to solve them:
dealing with study burnout
it’s that moment when the textbooks, notes, and exams start to feel overwhelming. what can you do to avoid study burnout?
take regular breaks -> follow the pomodoro technique or take short breaks every 45-60 minutes.
set realistic goals -> break your study sessions into smaller, manageable tasks.
instead of cramming an entire chapter in one sitting, focus on mastering one section at a time.
mix up your study routine -> alternate between reading, writing, watching videos, or using flashcards.
practice self-care -> get enough sleep, stay hydrated (~72 oz), and eat nourishing foods. incorporate exercise, whether it's a quick walk, or a gym session.
know when to step back -> taking a break occasionally will help you return to your studies feeling refreshed and ready to focus.
practice mindfulness -> try practicing meditation to calm your mind. even a 5-minute session can help you reset mentally and emotionally.
headspace - a great guided meditation app, the only con is the pricing
here are some good free alternatives tho:
insight timer
runner
medito
connect with others -> even a quick chat about how you’re feeling can make a huge difference in your mood and motivation.
celebrate small wins -> don’t wait until you’ve finished a whole subject to feel accomplished.
celebrate the small victories—whether it’s finishing a section, acing a practice quiz, or just sticking to your study plan for the day.
adjust your expectations -> if things don’t go exactly to plan, don’t beat yourself up. adjust your expectations and keep moving forward.
take time to unplug -> unplugging for a few hours can give you a much-needed mental break.
I can guarantee that less social media makes my mood better, not just for studying but for social interactions. try making a dedicated time of the day where you step away from screens!!
“You can either experience the pain of discipline or the pain of regret.”-Unknown
Excuses make today easy, but tomorrow harder
Discipline makes today hard, but tomorrow easier
tomorrow will start a new cycle in college
please be good

taking effective notes in class
taking effective notes in class is the key to academic success. taking good notes will not only help you understand material during class but also serve as a valuable resource when doing exam preparation.
whether you're attending a lecture in person or watching one online, here are some strategies to help you become a better note-taker:
preparation before class .·:* before the lecture, review any assigned readings or materials. identify the main ideas and concepts that will likely be discussed. .·:* check the course syllabus to understand the day's focus. note important topics. .·:* briefly revisit notes from previous class sessions to connect new ideas.
during class .·:* write down the main concepts, helpful details, and examples. .·:* organize your notes strategically for post-lecture annotation and later review. .·:* use visual aids, such as pictures and diagrams, throughout your notes to illustrate concepts visually. .·:* include your own questions, observations, and reflections.
i hope you enjoyed today's post! ❤️ nene
