STYLIN' AND PROFIILN'

To state this off the bat: this is not a call out, this is not meant to be an assault on character, and I will do my best to be as fair as possible to all parties. That being said, I do feel a warning/disclaimer is due. Let me preface everything by saying the admin involved, Admin Tokyo, has apologized, handed over the login information to our old rp main we requested, and removed our biographies (without our asking). That being said, we have asked twice for a public post to acknowledge the missteps taken and creative content used without permission, and he has denied that. At this point, if he won’t put it on a public platform, I will. While I’m appreciative of the apologies he’s given and the removal of our content from Wither, I think it’s unfair to myself, my coadmin, and our work that we not get acknowledgement. We, and Bindlebrim deserve better. So, in short:

Content from myself and Charlie’s 2013 roleplay has been used without permission. It was used on 2 separate roleplays (witherpg, thecovenantrp) over the course of 9 months without credit. Which, without making this post myself, we will never get.

Admin Tokyo was given our blessing to revamp Bindlebrim Hallows after it died in 2013. Please note we allowed him to continue with BBH, which is severely different from removing, altering, and reusing our creative content in an entirely new setting. Last week, Charlie and I sent a message to @witherpg in regards to who was running the place, where they had received our content, and if they could please give us proper credit. It was exceedingly kind, and we did not so much as ask them to remove our work, though we had every right to. Tokyo responded on his personal account with apologies and promised to help us with recovering our old BBH account (which he did). He did not respond to our next message for 3 days, and in that time our good faith faded when I later found he had used our biographies/locations/species lore on yet another roleplay. Covenant (@thecovenantrp-goodbye) began in 2018 and including a thank you page without mention of us, and an admin page where Tokyo stated “I came up with the idea for this roleplay after months of obsessing over the show The Magicians (…) With the help of slowly getting the admin team together, I was able to bring my vision to life.”

Since then, we’ve also come to find promotions, posts, and character blogs which state the roleplay was established in 2017. Whether this incarnation included content from Bindlebrim we cannot say for sure, as no information from that main account remains.

I would ask that you reblog this post if you can. While again both myself and Charlie are appreciative of the steps Tokyo has taken, this does not feel right to me. Our content was used potentially 3 times over the course of 2 years (each time we had to find out ourselves), and he’s not willing to make any admission in a public space. The Covenant URL was changed and made private, the majority of our content was removed, and yet credited has still not been added to their main page even now. Other than this post, nobody will know just how much of our intellectual property was used, and I want people to know those were Charlie and I’s things. I want fair treatment for Bindlebrim. And I want to point out what is absolutely improper behaviour in the RPC.
