Coronavirus outbreaks are affecting the perception of weakness in the US which is holding the Dollar back from making gains against other currencies, including the Euro which is likely to remain at its current levels despite difficulty finding an agreement amongst European leaders about financial responses as the continent begins to reopen from its pandemic response.
Uranus
The midwestern plains states will face a severe weather pattern in the next few days while the southeastern states will be experiencing thunderstorms as several tropical waves roll in from The Atlantic/Caribbean Sea and across the Gulf of Mexico; these seem to be smaller seed like storms which could have become much larger with more conducive conditions. There is a low pressure system over a thousand miles south west of the Baja peninsula which has the possibility of becoming a Tropical Depression as it moves eastward the next couple of days.
Neptune
Legendary Surfer Derek Ho has passed away this week. He was a former World Champion and Triple Crown winner. In other surfing news, the WSL has cancelled this year’s tour due to the global pandemic crisis and announced new changes to the 2020-21 season which will alter the way the professional sport league operates. Locally, the summer swells in Northeast Florida are mushy and calm; it’s longboard season for sure.
Saturn
The USDA is spending $6 billion of food and administrative services responding to the COVID-19 crisis. This goes towards state and local food banks which are experiencing significant increases in demand. Additionally, there new programs which are being set up to connect farmers to families as a means to provide food without having to go through a supermarket or more traditional food distribution networks.
Jupiter
As Florida continues to flame into the current epicenter for the global COVID-19 pandemic, its three richest citizens have experienced dramatic increases in their wealth. Many of Florida’s lowest income workers have been called back in to work during the state’s reopening, which many have argued was entirely too soon. These underprivileged workers often live in multigenerational homes and this very well could be part of the mechanics by which the virus is continuing to spread. Florida’s Governor is currently dodging questions about accepting any responsibility for the surge to 350,000 active cases in the state. Many states across the country are struggling with the decision about the upcoming school year. John Lewis, civil rights activist, Congressional Representative from Georgia, and oppositional foil to the current occupant of the Oval Office passed away.

Once again, COVID-19 is a multidimensional issue that leaves no part of our society untouched. What is going to happen to Texas and/or Florida; their new cases are continuing to drive the global case totals upwards; when a hurricane makes landfall this season? Additionally, how will other places in the world respond to ‘normal’ emergencies under the umbrella of potential spread of the virus; cyclone activity in the Pacific, Typhoons in Southeast Asia, tsunamis, earthquakes or volcanic activity in the Ring of Fire will have much greater impact and devastation if there is a highly contagious disease which infects survivors and first responders equally. Seemingly more mundane concerns strike the strategists at Defense One, they suggest that the US Army is not in the proper strength levels nor organized as an appropriate partner with the forces of Southeast Asia countries as a counterbalance to the ever increasing power of the People’s Liberation Army in China. As tensions between the US and China increase, this becomes a more and more significant issue. Russian Forces have begun exercises in that country’s southwestern regions, while the US Department of Defense is unable to judge the effectiveness of a drone program in nearby Afghanistan. Completing the International Affairs sweep up, the UK is adrift as it is disassociated from Europe, and unclear which direction to steer towards in the US-China tensions.

Did you think that Geography and History was exempt from COVID-19? In this day and age, you’d be incorrect; as everything is deeply politicized and driven by fear of accountability, fear of losing power or just fear in general, the state of Georgia is manipulating their reporting of cases in a county by county infographic map. Our group response to the the global pandemic has attempted to minimize its spread via quarantine and isolation. These are both stressors on mental health and well-being, thus interactive connectedness requires greater conscious activity in order to overcome this pandemic. Obviously, this is increasing the need for social connectivity software as more workers are able to remain at home, and more people are turning to social networks via the internet for the interactions which feed our well-being. This is where I turn to wave hello to a new avenue, I am beginning to sow seeds within the social network at Diaspora; it is just like several other much more prominent social networks with one major structural difference-it is decentralized and therefore not under the corporate control umbrella which demands profit to be squeezed from every pebble in its foundations. I genuinely can foresee a great deal of effort on my part in order to build a meaningful social map but it is a task which has the potential for a great payoff-increased connectivity without the manipulations of transnational corporate profits as the counterweight in the equation.

As can be seen, I am experimenting with a format that follows the Information and Knowledge gathering which will be put into practice with my son’s homeschooling this upcoming year. In an effort to get myself out of a self-imposed rut, I am also ditching the Google News website, which had become my daily newspaper, and curated a news feed following the interwoven Philosophical guidelines of self education I have created. Which brings me to Venus, or Beauty, Aesthetics and Sexuality. As I seem to be conducting a survey of how COVID-19 has swept through all these areas of knowledge, I struggled a bit to see how Aesthetics (also known as the Philosophy of Art) really played into this scenario at least until I began to acknowledge that the underlying principle which guide the generation of the artwork are known as the piece’s aesthetics. One further intellectual step, places the political realm into the area of performance art and immediately it all comes into focus.

We are being lead through the response to this pandemic not by an Administration who seeks to govern but by a performance artist. The only audience that matters in this performance are the ones who cheer for The Republican Administration’s actions. Anyone who questions these actions becomes cast in the opposition group which makes them part of the act. It is a deft performance which is not overtly saturated with intellectualizations that might weaken the image being portrayed or becoming too invested in the act of governing which is categorically opposite the Presidential image which is being sought after.
After this era, it is perhaps wise for everyone to retire the phrase, “just for aesthetic purposes,” for we can see that there are grave consequences associated with undervaluing the importance of these guiding principles of presentation.
