On Biden and the "Lessor of Two Evils"
Okay, I'm going to say something controversial here. People are arguing that we must vote for Biden because between Biden and Trump (or whatever Republican ends up being put forward), Biden is the lesser of two evils. This is incorrect. Biden isn't the lesser of two evils. He is the exact same evil, hiding behind a thin veneer of civility. And I would argue that that (crumbling) facade makes Biden, and the non-progressive Democrats more generally, somewhat more dangerous than the Republicans.
We know exactly what the Republicans want to do. We know because they've told us. They've been telegraphing their moves LOUDLY for decades.* This doesn't mean that they're not dangerous. THEY ARE. But, their lack of subtlety makes them a clear and obvious threat. They're a liquid in a bottle labeled Poison: Do Not Consume, deadly, but marked out as being so. And we all know, or at least we should know (*glares pointedly at people who voted for Trump in 2020*), not to take a swig.
Democrats pretend to be our friends. They act as if they care about marginalized groups of people, not because they actually do, but because they realized that they can win if they trick us into voting for them. But while they talk about peace and unity and equality to our faces, they quietly lay down the exact groundwork needed for the Republicans to eventually carry out their plan. They increase police budgets, invest in more effective and wider-reaching surveillance technologies, lay down pipelines and mining roads that destroy even more Native land while lining their pockets. They let a deadly and disabling pandemic run rampant while allowing the CDC to declare masks unnecessary even in medical spaces. They let Republicans pack the Supreme Court with conservatives who will strip away even more rights. They allow and often encourage the expansion of the prison industrial complex and the enslavement and torment of an ever-increasing and largely Black and brown, prison population. They allow for libraries and schools to be defunded. They stand idly by while Indigenous women are kidnapped, raped, and murdered, often by the very police officers whose budgets they insist on increasing or the pipeline/road workers whose projects they push through. They shrug their shoulders as Black people are continually lynched, both by police and private citizens. They topple foreign governments in South America, Africa, Asia, and SWANA, then punish the refugees of the wars the U.S. started by imprisoning refugees, stealing their children, subjecting them to sterilization and rape, disease and despair. They quietly conduct genocides on multiple continents, commit war crimes too numerous to list.
They do all of this while preaching about equality and misquoting MLK and people (especially white liberals for whom this shallow performance is designed) believe their lies, because at least they're not as bad as the Republicans, right? Right?? Wrong. They're just as poisonous as the Republicans. But while the Republicans are clearly marked as being poison, while they're bitter-tasting and obviously noxious, Democrats are a substance that's tasteless and odorless, and they've laced our drink with it. And we keep raising our glass closer and closer to our lips, not knowing that death is imminent. If we drink, no amount of hopes and prayers and "I have a dreams" will bring us back.
What's more infuriating though, is that some of us do know that the drink is poisoned. And we've been screaming as much for years. Black people, Indigenous people, disabled people, etc., the people who have been kept at the margins of this "democracy" of ours, know that Democrats want us dead as surely as the Republicans do. We saw them poison the drinks. We've watched them testing it out in Native reservations and boarding schools, in prisons, in Ferguson, in Chicago, in New York, in Atlanta, in Minneapolis, in Flint, in Yemen, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, in Afghanistan, in Vietnam, in Rwanda, in Cuba, in Palestine. We've been watching people die, murdered by that "lesser evil."
But instead of listening to us when we warn you of the ongoing danger, you (white) liberals and leftists shame us for making a scene, for being divisive. You decree that we must vote blue no matter who, even if that who actively and publicly supports genocide. You ignore our warnings and propose a toast, "To Biden and the lesser of two evils!" You hold us down and tip the poisoned drink to our lips and force us to swallow. And in a year or two when we all lay dying, you'll have the gall to act surprised. With your last delirious breaths you'll mumble land acknowledgments and beg Black women to save you.
*For that reason, it's important to ask why exactly Democrats have done fuck all to stop the Republicans' master plan when it's clear to anyone paying attention exactly what that plan is. It's not a secret and it really never has been. If Democrats wanted to stop them, they could have. Instead, time after time and year after year, Democrats pull their punches and throw the fight, then claim to their voters that "the Republicans were just too strong, but if you want us to win next time, please donate $3 to our campaign lol ๐." It's almost as if they don't care either way because they're just as committed to capitalism and white supremacy as the Republicans are, and are really only concerned with their own power and wealth...(HINT HINT)
